A Party Based Cultist Hunting RPG That Has Me Hooked - Horror at Highrook

I am very impressed with the scripting in the game. Excellent work.

I salute you, Ser. Solo Devs are the future of the industry. You guys are light in the dark tunnel of digital "rentals" masquerading as ownership and "live services". Games need to be games again. Fun and engaging.

I LOVED the concept of Cultist simulator and it is one of the most enchanting games I’ve played. But adding more structure to it is indeed a welcome change. Wishlisted x2!

Part of the charm of this channel is that Splat is generally pretty bad at games that require reading or time management.

The first time I played Cultist Simulator, I thought "Man, I want to make a dungeon exploration game like this." Then, I see this game, and man, it is a step up.

Let me solve the mystery for you. From couple updates ago YT let's creators select multiple titles for each video, different people get different titles served to them. Then YT drops the least popular ones till only the most popular one remains. Since they all reference the one video, there's no reason not to do it.

I think that's actually intentional with CS. You're a human with human perceptions toying out and interacting with the unimaginable / indescribable. It definitely required a very sorta experimental trial and error playstyle with 0 help. There were a few leaps in logic I got stuck on with it in the first run, but after that it's pretty much pick an aspect and level it up to max so that you can cross the final challenge. The way you get there depends on the run, but yes there were definitely a 3-4 really really inchoate points in CS that I had no clue what to do next whatsoever and it could have telegraphed it a tad better. After I knew what I needed to do, all my future runs were super quick since I knew what the ultimate goal was. This game was made by a guy with a phd in philosophy which is why the writing feels pretty good, and while I feel like there's unnecessary anime style dialogue it seems to be structured in a more straightforward way with less esoteric solutions so far. Half the items flat out tell you where to take them so I figure this is kinda cultist simulator for people that didn't want to spend 2 days moving tiles around in the final 10 yards of the game trying to figure out wtf you get into the mansus. My advice is : fix the mirror. Without spoiling too much.

The art style isn’t very similar, but It’s easy to see why one might be reminded of Darkest Dungeon. Both games share a gritty, dark, comic-book aesthetic, although the characters here have visible eyes and more realistic proportions. The Lovecraftian theme probably reinforces the comparison.

@@noraptorshere8206 Are you unaware D&D started out as a tabletop game like Warhammer 40k? With actual Dungeon maps, that were 3d because you had things like walls & actual doors you had to set up. Little figures for the different classes made out of steel you had to paint yourself. Yu-Gi-Oh style cards for the monsters, weapons, spells, skills, armor, traps, & everything else D&D related. All of that & more, eventually tossed aside to become a game strictly about telling a "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure" story with a few dice rolls thrown in to make the "game" seem a little interactive & not just you being told a story. I know. I used to have one of the original board games for it. Metal figurines included, that I had to paint myself to exacting standards.

@@timothyhansen6581 Maps for original D&D were NOT 3d--Gygax was known for his mega dungeons, which would be insane to be built. Most people played with drawn maps. And while OD&D did expect players to own and have played Chainmail, the Men & Magic booklet flat out says that players should only use miniatures if they have them handy, because they weren't required, and CARDBOARD TOKENS were suggested as an alternative, and it included an alternate combat ruleset that became the standard going forward. And even if that WERE the case that OD&D was an elitist bog of people demanding meticulously painted minis and 3d crafted dungeons.. uh.. modern D&D has a massive and ever-expanding line of miniatures and 3d terrain that is sold even in Barnes & Noble, and the majority of the modern rulebooks are focused on the aspects that come into play during grid-based combat. The idea that old D&D was somehow MORE focused on combat is crazy. Look at OSR-style games that look to replicate old D&D--they're way more narrative than modern. The amount of granular abilities in 5e (or 4e, or 3/3.5) are absolutely insane compared to what OD&D had. Combat (even if I think 5e combat is mid at best) is way more tactical and involved now than it was back in the 70s, no contest.

This would be pretty tedious as a board game, with having to search through numerous decks of cards every couple of minutes.
