On this beautiful morning in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, we are reminded that we're sharing these woods with other animals, like the bear and fox. A fox came for our chickens today and we had a bear encounter. That's how it goes when you live in the woods, we are reminded to be prepared for it. In this video we also plant onions, potatoes, and harvest our strawberries. Shane finds where the leak is coming from in our fishing boat and repairs it. It's a good week on the homestead! Thank you - it was quite a scary morning! The grasses and everything is starting to grow so tall because of all the rain we've been getting so predators can hide better - the fox hasn't been back though so we did a good job scaring it! Wow! Lesson learned with the bear spray. Be careful! Maybe there is something you can put outside the chicken run to keep predators from coming in too close. Good thing the boat leak wasn’t too big. Thanks for the video!

Yes, I did learn my lesson, hopefully I will keep doing it. Carrying bear spray just isn't convenient on my run but if that bear would have had little cubs, she could have been very protective, especially this time of year. I think with the chicken run, we could cut back to the weeds to deter the fox from coming up so closely. Thank you so much for watching and for commenting!

Green hot glue works great for aluminum boat leaks. No sanding required.

Lots of bear sightings around here as well. Last fall my neighbor got mauled when he came down out of his tree stand. He fought it off with his bow but it tore him up pretty bad! Also had a wolf run across our road the other day so lots of predators to be aware of.

Really - wow, that is crazy to hear about your neighbor. It's always a good reminder to just be on high alert! It would be awful to get mauled by a bear. We love being surrounded by woods - the rain I think this year made the grasses grow so high it's tougher to see the predators. Hope you have a great week and a good 4th of July!

I also think I had a mini heart attack, lol, no didn't really, but wow it was frightening. Usually when I see a bear it's at a far distance and I can turn around... not like 10 feet away on a dead end... I think that's why I freaked so bad, lol! I always like potatoes from the garden. For some reason they don’t keep for long. Haven’t figured that out yet.

So do we! They're starting to come up nicely now too, which is great! We know what you mean, they don't keep for very long... This year we'll try to eat as many potatoes in the fall/beginning of winter as we can! I think there is probably a better storing variety than the kind we use, one day, we'll get that figured out too! Hope you have a great week!

Bear or fox on the homestead doesn’t sound good. Better than a pack of wolves. We’ve seen them at our property near Wascott. Really enjoy your videos!!

You're right, better than a pack of wolves for sure! We've seen wolves before here, luckily it wasn't that. Once a pack of coyotes got 5 of our chickens, that was a difficult day! Love Wascott so much, by the way! Thanks for the nice feedback on the videos!

That's a good idea, I wonder if I'd like the sound of the bells, hmmm, certainly better than my singing voice, lol! I like the idea for sure, if they hear me coming, they're more likely to stay clear of the road. I just might dig out some of my little Christmas bells and give it a try. Especially for those early morning runs or late evening ones, those make me the most nervous! Thanks for the comment, have a good night!

Make alot of noise while you run, bears would gothe other way before you know its there, unless its a mama bear

I've heard that before too, make a lot of noise. I suppose I could sing while I run, that would scare them away, lol! The bear was just as surprised as me so I don't think he heard me coming at all... somehow I should be more noisy. Yes, I am so happy it wasn't a mama bear!

3m used to make an aluminum tape for patching aircraft. It was kind of expensive and hard to come by. Do you know anyone who works for airline maintenance?

This is great to hear, I never heard of this aluminum tape for aircraft but we do have Cirrus aircraft manufacture near us - and one of our new neighbors works there. I think if the JB weld doesn't do the trick, this is a great option. Thank you!

That's a good thought - we probably will need a livestock guardian dog eventually when we get more animals. For now, we put some music outside during the day, it's been working good, fingers crossed that the fox stays out of here!
