The Nieuport XVII (Late Version) by Copper State Models is a beautiful scale model kit in 1/32. If you want to see it being built step-by-step with cringy commentary and subpar camera work - look no further.
This is the last part of a 4-part series: We're finally approaching the pilot figure - something that's miles outside of my comfort zone. The figure is also by Copper State Models. Furthermore, I will be building a simple base with an earthen part and a wild meadow made of static grass.

You’ve done a wonderful job! Especially the pilot figure. You’re too hard on yourself. I’ve been modeling for over 50 years, and I’m still learning. I’ve learned some very useful techniques from you. Please keep modeling and posting your fine work. Professionelle Arbeit. Geil!

Thanks for your kind words. I know we tend to be our own harshest critics. The figure turned out well given the little experience I have with miniature painting but there's room to improve.

I once did a similar base for a Dr1. Trying for the feel of a well used landing ground, I put a lot of work into showing damp meadow grass flattened by tires and tracked by tailskids. I was pleased with the result, although it would have been much better if I'd had one of those cool static grass gadgets. Nice work.
@TheAlleyman
@TheAlleyman Год назад
Thanks a lot Simon. The static grass applicator is not necessary, you can also plant the tuffs by hand with a tweezer (it's much less convenient though 😅). They are not expensive anyway, I got mine for 20€ from Amazon. Also, Plasmo has a video on how to do them yourself.

Just found your channel, followed this build in one sitting I loved your presentation so much. Fantastic work, very inspirational. My only suggestion would be next time to router out the base so the clay sits in flush with the base, giving a clean edge to the scene. very minor point though. I can't even build the plane part, but this make me want to try!
@TheAlleyman
@TheAlleyman Год назад
Cool, glad you enjoyed it so much. Good point on the base, will take that into consideration for my next one. Also don't hesitate to try, it's not as difficult as it might seem.

@@TheAlleyman Yup, it felt like a long time ago, but it's great to see a new channel with interesting models. It would be interesting to see either more planes or even tanks from WWI. Speaking of which, Academy has a very basic 1:72 Sopwith Camel kit, but it would be very interesting to see what you can do with it/to improve it given how well you did on this plane!
@TheAlleyman
@TheAlleyman 2 года назад
@@rougepilot5513 just checked, it was 6 months ago :) I plan to do all subjects here, ships, planes, tanks and also artillery since they had such a big impact (no pun intended) in WW1. Will definitely have a look at the Academy Camel, thanks for the tip.
@rougepilot5513
@rougepilot5513 2 года назад
@@TheAlleyman Yup, the camel in question is incredibly basic, two small sprues in a tiny box with a single sheet of somewhat hard to read instructions. It actually caused me some frustration and I have yet to finish it (the inner spars snapped off because they were in the wrong direction and I tried to reposition them but the new bond sucked). I might pull it out one day or another to finish it.

I must take issue with you as you are NOT a mediocre figure painter. I understand that we are often our severest critics when it comes to our own work. Perhaps because your Nieuport is just brilliant, and, as you said that figures aren’t your specialty, you feel the pilot suffers in comparison. In my opinion, he wonderfully compliments and completes your build. Your choice of colors was excellent. I’ll bet a lot of us who paint little folks learned our techniques from watching other videos. As you noted Copper State Models makes outstanding resin figures and your presentation fully does justice to the sculpt. Well done! 👍👍👍

Thanks for your encouraging words, Mark. I agree we're our most severe critics. However, there are some real geniuses out there when it comes to miniatures :D and I couldn't agree more on Copper State Models, all the stuff they release lately is just top notch quality!

I'm new to your channel and I think you're doing very well. Your narration is well done and you're pretty funny. I also thought you did a great job with the figure. I'm just getting into making scenes for my models as well, so thanks for the tips. I started with your newest video of the cockpit of the WWI focker I think its called. Then went back to check out your other videos. Good luck with your channel bud. All I can say is if and when you receive negative comments from some not so happy people lol, just ignore it.. Don't let them get to you. I think you're doing great and I can't wait to see what else you do. Happy New Year and best of luck bud.

Absolutely love it! Outstanding work....! I'll be getting one as well (at least), for one of my favourite WWI aces, Charles Nungesser! Have a handful (well....ahum) WWI aircraft, both in 1/32 and 1/48 (I know, total madness), eager to get started, but the rigging scares the scare the bejesus out of me! 😆😂 Already looking forward to see your next project!
@TheAlleyman
@TheAlleyman 2 года назад
Thanks for your comment. The Nungesser markings are great as well, you should definitely go for it! I also got a considerable stash by now (well, guess that's a modeller's thing 😅) but only 1/32 so far. Also don't worry about the rigging, the Nieuport is relatively tame. It's not difficult, it just demands some patience. Next project is on the way :)
