i was so desperate for pincurchin to get rising voltage in the first dlc... it didn't. same for the second dlc... but for some reason even despite expanding force returning to many pokemon, rising voltage did not get a similar distribution. rising voltage wasn't even ever as good as expanding force was so i don't understand. pincurchin is just so nothing without rising voltage...
to this day I keep getting confused why they didn't make pincurchin part of gen 7. like could have easily made pyukumuku and pincurchin version exclusives
Pincurchin's only flaw is that no other Pokemon can keep up with Pincurchin raw steroid filled power. It's not his fault that Iron Valiant can't handle the Pin-Pin Style.
Here’s some fun pincurchin calcs that game freak stole from us: 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera-Electric Pincurchin Rising Voltage (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252 SpD Flutter Mane in Electric Terrain: 172-204 (106.1 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera-Electric Pincurchin Rising Voltage (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 124 SpD Assault Vest Rillaboom in Electric Terrain: 102-120 (49.2 - 57.9%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO 252+ SpA Choice Specs Tera-Electric Pincurchin Rising Voltage (140 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Kingambit in Electric Terrain: 204-240 (98.5 - 115.9%) -- 87.5% chance to OHKO why did raging bolt take this from him
@@ElectricWindGirlFriend I don't think double hp is "a bit" more bulk but pincurchin meta would be funny as hell so I don't care Unless he's somehow so cracked he gets banned but I doubt that
@InsertFunnyThingHere Base 48 HP -> base 98 HP translates to 300 HP -> 400 HP with max investment. So "a bit" is pretty apt here. It would still be a big deal, since it would then have the exact same special bulk as Corviknight, while having only a smidge less physical bulk (although its typing is far worse in terms of overall resistances, at least it would be able to take more hits). That combined with Recover would allow it to wall so much more, 1v1 so much more, and overall be much more of a menace, all while still having sub-500 bst.
Pincurchin is easily my favorite Pokemon and I've tried SOOOO hard to make the little guy work. I swear, voot switch would solve so much for this poor little guy
After Rillaboom was such a competitive success I'd love to see a trio of starters that set up the other three terrains. A Fire- Fairy type, a Water-Psychic type, and a Grass-Electric type. Ultimately, I mostly want to see more exploration of the fun possibilities when terrains become as potent as weather.
Pincurchin feels like a mon that was supposed to evolve but they didn't know into what so they just increased the numbers of its base stats by 20 points each and called it a day, creating yet another unreasonably slow and bulky electric type with absolutely nothing they can actually do before getting smacked into the "I die next turn" range
Everytime you said "Pincurchin" it sounded like you were saying "Pinkerton" and i kept thinking, "if they suck this much, wizards of the coast might not keep hiring them to terrorize their fanbase."
I really love this little guy. I used to run him in regulation A and B on a trick room team as a counter to sleep + synergy with quark drive on iron hands. It also gets sucker punch for some reason. Shout out to pincurchin for flinching an enemy mon with zing zap that one time I played.
It's such a shame it sucks when its so absolutely cute. I feel like they could've given it a signature move like an electric type beak blast which badly poisons enemies on contact, and the negative priority wouldn't even matter from its horrid speed stat, making it disincentivize opponents from trying to take the guy out which would've given it the ability to volt switch more safely since your opponent might get scared of getting their urshifu or ting lu badly poisoned . It makes perfect sense since its a sea urchin (I think). They didn't even try with the little guy's movepool. Even spiky shield or baneful bunker would've helped out with the same reason, albeit the latter is toxapex's signature move. Or maybe an electric type multi hit move like pin missle which has a 20% chance to poison or paralyse with every hit. Game freak did one of my favourite designs so wrong
I do love your content but I am a adamant pincurchin defender, possibly due to the fact that by far my highest win rate team on showdown for doubles is electric surge teams I make with pincurchin. He has some awesome traits, mainly if you have him with choice band wild charge, it actually does insane damage and can one shot opponents without great bulk even on a neutral hit. And since he has 15 speed you always win the terrain war, and if you or the other team are running trick room he basically always moves first. This is especially nice against trick room torkoal teams as they always forget P is slower and wild charge takes out over half of torkals health ruining the eruption. Paired with making iron hands wildcharge a nuke, and letting your other robots go off, I love pincurchin so much. For the choice band set he also gets sucker punch too which has won me some silly games as no one expects pincurchin to have priority lol.
Give it Rising Voltage, Endeavor, and take 10 points out of attack and speed and put them both into HP. Rising Voltage will give it a better stab than Thunderbolt, endeavor plus sucker punch would be a decent trick, and if it’s already slow and mainly a special attack, giving it 20 extra points in HP would really help its survivability.
It feels like they genuinely fear the awesome potential of this lil guy and are intentionally limiting its power, like with the likes of Indeede. Except goddamned Tapu Koko, regileki and Raging Bolt exist. At least Pincurchin has a great niche in the "precious lil' bean" category
Genuinely volt switch and rising voltage could make it actually ou viable, being able to threaten ground types with scald, set hazards like spikes or toxic spikes, dead okay-ish damage and pivot that enables quark drive pokemon sounds so good, it probably wouldnt even be common with all of that, but at least i’d have a better time than it is having now vgc pincurchin could be a great counter to psyspam trick room teams in vgc, being able to stop psychic terrain, and underspeed torkoal and hatterene and actually threaten okay damage with rising voltage, and enable stuff like speed boosting sash iron bundle, or assault vest attack boosting iron hands- yknow what maybe its not a good idea
I mean, it's only bad stat is HP. His movepool isn't even so bad, it has a strong priority in suckerpunch and nuzzle just dehabilitates everything that switches in just setting elec terrain firing off nuzzle, suckerpunch and then dying is not even that bad of a setup too bad it has such abysmal HP though
Future Paradox Mons not getting any form of E.Terrain meanwhile Past ones get Torkoal, Sunny Day Prankster Mons, and soon Groudon and Koraidon with restricted format coming. Its all so unfair
A way to fix Pincurchin is : . Give it the water type ( its a sea urchin, always found in sea and lake areas and is in the water 1 egg group ) to give better resistances than pure electric ( yeah it gains a grass weakness and loses electric resistance, but gains water, fire and Ice resistances ) . Give it rising voltage + Volt Switch + scald ( volt switch as a slow pilot and rising voltage and scald to keep it from being too passive ) . Just swap its atk and HP stats, both its typing are mostly special attacking types anyway and this would give it 101/95/85 bulk .
I used Pincurchin in DOU in the first few weeks of Scarlet/Violet. It really powered up Quark Drive Pokémon and was an effective hazards setter. In fact, the highest elo username at the time was something to do with Pincurchin
Pincurchin is literally the only legal electric terrain setter (without using a move) in gen 9, where the future paradoxes were introduced, and even that didn’t really make it viable
We'd need 4 more average pokemon with all of the terrain abilities. More options is always perfect. Ampharos, vileploom, bellossom or ludicolo, gardevoir, and reuniclus all feel like pokemon that it wouldn't hurt to give surges to. I'm not the smartest but they seem like pokemon that would use them well. New pokemon with surges will never hurt either.
Straight up if it had Rising Voltage it’s actually be amazing against Trick Room teams that rely on Torkoal + Amoongus. Just click the voltage button and blow something up. Rn it can barely even kill standard Torkoal unless you’re doing Helping Hand Tera Electric Thunderbolt which is way too much for a singular Torkoal
To give an option other than Pincurchin, Gamefreak gives you the option to choose Emolga, Stunfisk, Dedenne, or Togedemaru to be given electric surge. Who do you pick?
Electric Surge should have replaced Plus/Minus on Ampharos and Manectric (who isn't even in SV). This give them a use even in games where they don't have their megas. In games that do, then they can set up before transforming.
Hi welcome to part 2534 of why shared power is peak smogon, pincurchin is A+ tier that's it thanks for watching (go play shared power please im desperate I made a 19 minute advertisement for the tier that somehow got 600 views)
@@manohanged similarly a Paradox or Steel Type Qwilfish, maybe give an Ability reminiscent of Gen 1-4 Explosion where any move that deals damage to itself ignores half of the opponent's Defenses.
I genuinely don't understand why they give non-possible sweepers mixed attacking stats. Just make it's stats something like 70 HP - 50 ATK - 105 DEF - 90 SpATK - 105 SpDEF - 15 SPD or something, then it can take a hit atleast without being overly bulky and being able to put a layer of spikes or two out there. Not every 'mon needs to have super optimized stats and reach OU or anything, but GF's bizarre stat and move distribution (looking at you Alola, why is Vikavolt superfast in the overworld and slow as molasses in a fight?!) the last years boggles my mind something fierce.
I really wish they gave Bellibolt electric surge or made electromorphisis an electric version of seed sower as Pincurchin being so unbelievably awful along with the lack of tapu koko makes the future paradoxes unfairly so much worse than the past ones, and Miradon has yet to be added to vgc while torkoal has been in gen 9 from the start. I just feel like Bellibolt would've been the perfect electric terrian setter instead of having a boring and fairly useless signiture ability.
@@themoolacato94tuna4Yeah it's stupid that it's the only terrain boosted move that got the shaft but then they kept the gliding gorilla and gave Indeedee F a new ship
none of the pokemon you mentioned are poorly designed, they are some of the coolest Pokemon to use, and that includes Smeargle who is only unhealthy because VGC decided to drop Sleep Clause
Not only pincurchin in VGC is outclassed by miraidon in every single way (obviously) but it's just extremely bad even in metas were miraidon is illegal
