They should make freeze-dry base 75, cause most of the pokemon that learn it don't have that good spa anyway besides bundle, and even bundle fell off in vgc
running it in draft atm as my tera captain and oblivious curse swept an intimidate spam team lol why does oblivious block intimidate i also ran it vs a rain team with hydration ddance rest but i forgot to run coverage for bronzong :(
I once saw someone refer to quag and ditto as canaries in the coal mine for upper tiers. When they begin to appear, something sinister has occured. Set up sweepers everywhere
0:50 Ubers UU mentioned! Fun fact: For around one month, there was a period of time in Ubers UU when Quagsire was considered better than Dondozo at being an unaware user due to the fact that even though Dondozo could take hits a lot better, Quagsire could actually make progress thanks to spikes and toxic, while Dondozo was stuck dealing 11-20% to most things. Sadly, at the current moment, Quagsire is now outclassed, as Chien-Pao (a Pokemon that 50/50 runs band or Swords dance) can break past it even through unaware with sheer power, flinches and defense drops.
Gastrodon and quagsire being capable to say "FCK THAT GUY IN PARTICULAR" and that one guy is literally the water god or the most broken dog in pokemon history is the most pokemon moment i ever seen and i love it!!!
Powercreep hasn't been kind to it, but I like its versatility a lot: solid lead and tank, Curse sweeper, swole rain striker, and even some goofy stuff like CounterCoat or Sub-Puncher in earlier gens. Tools like Flip Turn and now Knock Off have also been a blessing in later gens. Swampert is the GOAT 👏
@@flyingoctopus4304 That's because DNite has kept getting tools from Phys Outrage in gen 4, Multiscale in Gen 5, Weakness Policy in gen 6, Flynium Z in gen 7, DMax speed boosting in gen 8 and not losing much in gen 8 move dexit, and finally Normal Tera ESpeed in gen 9. Watch it get Dragon Ascent in gen 10.
@@flyingoctopus4304 ehh I'd say that by definition powercreep hasn't really been good to any pokemon but some have definitely weathered it better than others. Good candidates would be Chansey, Skarmory, and Zapdos until gen 9 finally dethroned it
I adore Quagsire. He does slowbro’s oblivious shtick much better in my eyes. He’s genuinely adorable. Also, I’m a little iffy about him competitively. Or more accurately this is just my coward way of saying I avoid gen 2 rands on showdown cuz I still get nightmares when I use an electric and get a sire switch on me. ptsd.
quagsire and gastrodon were both used on my teams in gen 4. it's awesome to see they still see play in the strongest formats. some of my favorite pokemon ever.
Which is kinda why me & my brother believe that GameFreak discontinued making new Water/Ground mons since the typing is often good outside of Whishcash due to it's weakness to Freeze-Dry & touching grass, and why I'd dread seeing the day we get a natural Ground/Fairy mon, especially if it has good stats.
In Gsc ou quagsire has quite cool niche of walling zap/raikou altho hp water/ice can still hurt a bit altho its preety great at using belly drum after whole opposing team is paralyzed since at +6 only few mons like skarm or exeguttor can maybe ko it after or live its hits
Gastrodon is unironically my favorite Pokemon. I didn't know squat about competitive or stats when I was playing through the story of my first Pokemon game, Moon; all I discovered was that the Gastrodon I caught to fill the dex DID NOT DIE (as long as you didn't have a Grass move). Thus began the reign of Bubbles, the Unkillable. To this day, she is one of my dearest partners, on par with my first starter. She is a sea slug (epic) who screams and canonically eats sand and can take a STAB draco meteor to the face (at least from NPC trainers). I love her very much.
I remember there being a venn diagram for all 4 mentioned water/ground type Pokemon, each one having unique traits and shared ones with others. The one common factor among all of them was "It's not whiscash" LMAO
I started following competitive pokemon in gen 8 and in my mind I had seismitoad like a top tier pokemon, years later I understood it was all dracovishes doing lmao
Actually Quagsire was UUBL in gen 7 because stall was pretty broken in gen7 and unlike the other core of the stall team, quagsire was the only one to good only on stall unlike the other memebers so it was the only one to be reasonable to be banned without affecting much else from the tier but I’m just being way too much of a nerd right now 🤓
Yeah the only quad weak type that naturally has no real weakness due to innate moveset coverage. Ice beam on every one of these irritable nasties. I just wish more fire types had energy ball or petal blizzard to rip and tear these nightmares apart.
Damn I can’t believe the main villain of this arc was revealed. I don’t know how Boingus is gonna deal with this guy unless they calls upon the power of friendship. Arc 2 better give a redemption arc to Seismitoad, my guess is Arctovish set it up and Seismitoad was just an unwitting puppet to the true villain.
The Quagsire Theorem: When through a number of factors a pokemon that is just not particularly good drastically overperforms against the meta. Named after Quagsire because that empty-headed MFer keeps doing it every generation. "You're not even that good in low tier what are you doing in Ubers?!" "Iunno." "What did you just do to my +3 Zacian!?" "Iunno."
''near perfect counter to zacian'' i mean, yes thats correct, but he's as much of a counter to zacian as a baby is a counter to a speeding train. Still its better than everything else.
A defensively invested water/ground type is just really, really annoying for so many meta games because the things that counter it (offensive grass types or grass type coverage) are near useless against anything else. There are also a ton of meta staples that just… can’t really deal with these mons effectively, especially if they have a secondary trait like unaware or a water immunity. The existence of these pokemon throws all your prep out the window. Your water type can’t counter their ground type, and your electric type can’t counter their water type, your grass type is nonexistent because the steel type exists, and suddenly every plan you had just vanishes. I’m speaking from experience of playing against gastrodon in draft leagues. It just invalidates half the stuff you do that works in every other circumstance.
Who would win? The personification, as well as the creator, of the entire worlds seas, a 350 kg whale with the power to drown the world, Or, One slimey littl slug boi
@ElectricWindGirlFriend I didn't think I'd like pre gen 4 metagames because of the physical special split not being there but they've really grown on me. I feel more lax in older metagames as the current gen seems to have so much coverage and pressure to perform.
ubers uu. it's a new tier that's made up of all the ubers that aren't good in ubers. it exists because there's so many ubers now as more generations go by.
Gastrodon is a perfect example of everything wrong with Gen 5. Permament bottom-tier lifer; jumps to Top 5 OU just because of Drizzle. Also poor Wiscash. "Every water/ground type shows up exactly where it is needed". I guess Wiscash's place is the bin. Poor thing came out at the same time as Swampert but was worse Swampert.
