100% agree! Instead of spending $1000 to hire out for a home project, spend $200 bucks on parts, $500 bucks on the tools and learn a new skill. My next objective is to become a proficient welder.

I Have basically had this mindset since I was a kid. I grew up low middle class (not poor but just barely). So a lot of this isn't new. The one thing that was said in this video that can't be understated, "Don't be a high time person, Be a low time person". One of many things I learned the the Marine Corps is, "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable". I'm so used to it now that when things get comfortable I get an uneasy feeling.

A timely video ! I just today got my shop cleaned up, summer projects done and put away. Kayaks hung from the ceiling. My floor space fits my 98 Jeep TJ wrangler, Honda Rancher quad with a Warn plow and the snowblower. There’s a small wood stove to keep everything warm and dry. Got my wife a new snow shovel 😂 so we’re ready for winter here just south of McCall.

Absolutely agree with you on learning the skills to do repairs. Save money, and learn how to do it for when it’s no longer an available option to go somewhere or have a service call. Nice organization. Love the workbench setup.

Good idea storing motor indoors and flipping the boat. I put a cover on my 14’ v-hull and it was a fail. Even putting a structure to keep a pitch to it puddles would form and after the first year it started leaking.

Great video , my one word of advice would be buy a larger fire extinguisher. A 5lb or 10lb ABC for inside the garage . God forbid you have a small fire you're going to wish you had a 5lb or larger in case of emergency.

@@christophermichaels6569 lol! Thanks for the laugh my friend, but alas no. The machine will run as long as possible, most likely indefinitely as that is the nature of the beast. There have been doomsday cries for many, many years. I myself started 'prepping' around 2010, but again my friend you don't need to stress. In all reality if SHTF owning a block of land means nothing to the man with a bigger gun. There are plenty of communities who would take you in if you are useful and once it truly hits the van, those not on a community will fall anyway, IMHO. But really, I stressed all through my 20's about end of world scenarios, I've gone down as many rabbit holes as any, woken up many years ago and multiple times since, gone deep in spirituality and with entheogenics and you will be fine. You should probably listen to your mum :)

Can relate, my beater with a heater work car wouldn’t save me money going back and forth to work if I took it to shops that charge $150 to just look at it reading the codes. Just did the timing belt an water pump an radiator an it cost me 200 just for parts. Probably would have been near 5 or 600 for a shop at minimum!

Been working on organizing my own space lately. I been taking on projects myself for the past few years. I gain skills, experience and tools but it certainly takes longer for me to get things done than to hire out. In the long run, it's better to learn and have the tools.

I have that same Wen drill press. It works great for wood. If you try drilling harder items like aluminum then the bit "deflects" (table tilts down slightly and bit deflects out and up). Does the job but I don't recommend it for heavy use. Get what you pay for.

I put some type of rack system in the garage for the ladders so if you back your truck in it would be easier to put them on the truck and they'd be out of the weather. Just a thought. Pretty cool set up for the shop too! Just needs a shower/bathroom and your good. :)

Couldn't agree more on prepping for the future and self reliance! I was raised in an LA suburb and am very dependent on daily conveniences. Last year was all about getting my 4Runner off-road/bugout ready with camping gear and whatnot. This year I'm focused on getting organized and stocked up around the house, as well as better physical conditioning.

When your struggle comes, you won't have any advantage from all those vehicles. Because after a while there won't be gasoline anymore. Or diesel. And if there is any, you can't save it longer than 1 or 2 years. Electricity? Your generator needs fuel. Better buy a windmill and some solar energy equipment. You're right about skills though, but you're a bit late. Better teach your kids. Conclusion: it's all about the American way of life: must make more money, then I'll buy what I need. Instead of promoting crafts already in primary school. Oh, if I were you, I'd buy some sturdy bicycles, handtools, that kind of stuff. Nothing that runs on fuel or electricity. Learn to make bows and arrows. Buy a ton of good glue that doesn't age. To laminate the wood for a stronger bow.

Something I really don’t understand. Sharing skills and ideas is fantastic but when it comes prepping, is it really wise to show the world your hand? This RU-vid world of “look what I did” could really come and bite you in the butt if things were to get dicey. Some of these “influencers” show everything but the key hiding under the planter. A lot of folks out there who are not prepared are going to get pretty desperate when daily conveniences disappear. I think we all know what desperate people are capable of especially when they gather. You seem like a modest and resourceful person and this criticism is not directed personally at you. Just another person sharing a thought on the internet.

I appreciate your perspective, and concern. I definetly considered all of the potential threats before starting my youtube channel, and this definetly is not the first time ive read posts like yours.. I could bend your ear for hours on this topic, but instead ill just say this.. I live way too far in the mountains to be concerned with marauders.. and everyone in my community out here is a prepper.. Also, the risk and effort someone would have to put themselves through to come steal my stuff.. far outweighs the reward.. Funny thing is, I drive around in a truck that is far more valuble than whats in my pantry everyday, exposing it to would be theives.. Nobody has ever called me out on that. Now if your talking about exposing myself to feds, well.... Im not doing anything illegal, so technically I should have nothing to worry about there.. But here is the one thing that does give youtube people like me an advantage over others.. which is we have influence, and the ability to reach tens of thousands of people very quickly.. So if there were ever an unjust crackdown, or attack on preppers and gun owners , from a strategic standpoint this would make us the last ones to be targeted because we have the ability to sound an alarm and warn others! anyways thanks for watching!
