A Quick Homestead Update

I love your videos Becky, you inspire me to homestead. I’m 72 and lived next door to my grandparents, aunt, uncle and three cousins on the same 3 acres of land growing up. We had chickens and other farm animals back then. We have dreams and life happens. Then one day you realize that you want to get back to your roots. After my husband retired, we moved to Oregon and built our house on property we bought from my husband’s parents. I’ve waited sixty yrs to have a homestead and chickens. I finally got both. We are elderly now, but the dream is just as real. Watching your videos has inspired me to keep forging ahead. I planted an orchard four years ago and have had a lovely vegetable garden since 2007. So happy out in the sticks! So peaceful! Thank you Becky! 🤗🏡🌼

Everything is coming along so well. It is great you are doing all this now and hope you won't be thinking of moving later, as starting over on a new homestead at near 70 for us, well, as husband says, "we ain't spring chickens any more." ") but we do what we can and keep keeping on. In Joy

Looking good!! I fenced my place 42 acres with barb wire around the edges but fur the rest I used cattle panels and t posts. Yes fencing is hard. I was62 to 72 and a lady too.

Good morning Becky!! I love your homestead its looking WONDERFUL!! My brother and his wife just moved out onto 2 acres of land into a small 1928 rock house...they were living in town in a big 2 story house, they wanted to downsize and wanted some land but never expected to get what they ended up with which was land with tons of fruit trees, they have several different apple trees one of them grows grannie Smith apples and one unique tree... which I say unique cause none of us has ever heard of this but it has 4 different kind of apples that grow on it. They also have several peach trees, pair trees and pawpaw trees, we've never tried that fruit my brother had to look it up, have you ever heard or tried pawpaw fruit? Oh and the have fig trees. And they are wanting to get chickens sooo I told her about you and she checked out one of your videos, I told her you knew everything there is to know about raising chickens. So we will be watching your older videos on how to get started and what kind of chickens are better suited for them and how to build the chicken coop haha so I am totally looking forward to that! 😊 I love your videos, she enjoyed the one I sent her also, she said she liked watching you that you were fun to watch. Have a great day Becky and thanks for all your videos and helping people learn how to homestead and properly take care of farm animals. You are Awesome 👌

Thanks, Becky! I am so happy to see a new video. You inspired me to purchase a homestead property and I have just put my garden in and built a chicken coop and populated it with chickens that I raised from day-old chicks. I'm about to build a pig pen and a goat pen (got milk?) and my sister is bringing me two of her horses (I just watched your video from 2018 on trimming hooves!). It's beginning to look like a homestead! I still have a ton of work to do on the house (it was built in 1913 and has been empty for at least a decade). Thanks for the inspiration, homesteading is such a joy!

Hey Mrs. Becky, my buddy just started using an automatic deer corn feeder to feed all his chickens. He doesn't get around well, and I just thought that was a great idea to share!

Definitely a spring crunch time…we been busy ourselves with our 5 new hens. Got the whole seeds …corn ..black oil sunflower..whole oats…cat food for the winter bug substitute and food grade d t..enjoying them and our garden 🌈😃🤙

I watched a video today from Poplar Preparedness YT channel & thought about Becky's homestead. Here ya go.: For feeding chickens... -Lettuce -Greens -Logs wuth bugs in it -jerusalem artichokes or sunchokes, you can cook them a but if u like, eady to grow, it will take some adjustment but is edible -sunflower seeds -sourgum -corn, nothing high quality or fancy -if you buy chicken feed u do not need layer feed, just buy meat bird feed and add calcium to it, so stock up on oyster shells. Also save your egg shells, no need to bake them nor grind them, judt thriw them on the ground -fruit trees, any legt over of fruit parts, i e. The core, anything that isn't humanly consumed will be eaten by the chickens

Could you plant tomatoes, peppers, beans, peas, melon, squash or etc. on the horse panels? I bought panels for my garden as a sturdy trellis.

What part of Florida are you in? Does all of Florida have lots of sandy soil? My little chihuahua fits through our cattle panels too. She likes to come out in the garden with me. I have to have my garden completely fenced off with cattle panels and then netting and string over top to keep the deer out. Deer come to our property every day.

Some animals use dirt for cleaning the oil off and hygiene that is probably why your mule is digging.
