I have both datejust and a sub and I would argue that my blue datejust with fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet is a nicer watch. I think people that never held it in their hands got in that sport rolex brainwash trap. Datejust reflects light like a magic, blue dial is mesmerizing and bracelet is way more comfortable than oyster on a sub.
Datejust 126234 is an icon, a true refined classic, a pure beauty and the reference of horology! Non of the watch on the market compares to Rolex Datejust. 👑
True, a Datejust is “easier” to get. The Datejust of your choice however is another thing. DJ41 with blue or slate dial, fluted bezel and jubilee is in most countries and AD’s also a waiting list model. It remains the backbone of the Rolex collection and is an awesome everyday watch. I’m glad I got mine on oyster, it makes the watch more versatile 👍
@@Anshaal_ Wimbledon already was a hard to get dial so I can only assume it didn’t get any easier these days although I also hear rumours that AD’s are getting more deliveries of watches lately. I got my DJ41 plain bezel Oyster bracelet Wimbledon by luck. It was my wife’s favourite configuration and they happened to have one in their inventory that we could try but was supposedly for another customer who wasn’t informed yet. I guess they must’ve loved my wife’s smile because the next day we were told that if we wanted it was ours…We picked it up the same day 😁
Hey Maarten, as a young man in his 20s and getting a first and only one. Would you recom Rolex Sub or Rolex Datejust? To me its hard cause I know the sub is most copied watch with fakes etc and a lot of people owing one. Datejust on the other hand I don't hear as much about.
@@bobmemer9062 depends on your lifestyle, how and where you want to wear the watch. Both are classics and yes the Submariner is copied a lot but what icon isn’t? In reality the Submariner is pretty hard to get these days but if your heart tells you that the Submariner is the one for you I’m sure there is a way to make it happen. I bought my Submariner in 1997 as my first luxury watch and never had any regrets. Last Wednesday the AD called me letting me know that my GMT Master II Pepsi arrived and was waiting for me to be picked up. Guess what I did yesterday. Good things are worth waiting for. Good luck making your dream come true.
Just bought a 36mm for my father literally 1 week ago. Blue dial, flirted bezel and jubilee bracelet. A better size for an old man dress watch than the 41 in my opinon
@@planetdee3587 Awesome choice 👏 It's a lovely piece I had the black diamond dot dial on jubilee with fluted bezel 😉Do miss it but the Rootbeer is my next step up 🙌
I have a new generation Submariner and it just collects dust. I recently got a DateJust 41 Blue smooth and it’s beautiful and classy and much more comfortable to wear than my sub. Everyone buys a black Sub as their first watch and it’s the most replicated watch. Don’t be afraid to be different.
My first Rolex was a GMTll. Now that I'm older, I appreciate the OP and DJ much more. I also have a No-Date Sub, a Blue Z Milgauss, a DJ and a OP. Not a fan of fluted bezels, I prefer the smooth bezels.
The jubilee is beautiful but the oyster is definitely the more versatile option and looks just as good and even gives it an overall cleaner/smoother look, IMHO
I couldn’t agree more, the Omega Aqua terra is a pleasing timepiece you can live with forever, and I have Rolex’s in my collection, but personally I do think omega is a better watch all round. Ty & stay safe 👍🏼
I went to my Rolex dealer for a Rolex date just blue face, fluted bezel and jubilee bracelet. They told me their was a 2 year waiting list. Is this right? Or where they trying to make it harder for me to get given my age just being 22 years old?
just bought a DJ41 blue, Smooth and Oyster, the most sporty config you can get on this watch for daily use. fluted is nice but too shimy for my taste to go to Publix or Costco, great for a wedding or dining out.
I read and watch far too many watch reviews, any argument to say a blue datejust is not a good purchase is purely a preference, my only argument not to buy this would be paying over the odds, if you can get one at the right price its a beautiful watch to own.
Good video and topic. My one and only Rolex is a 1603 datejust circa '73 - '75 with a sigma dial. Kudos if you know the significance of the sigma, it's special and now a collectable. I personally feel a collector of watches must have a Rolex. Rolex is a giant in the watch industry and will remain so for a very long time (and it really doesn't matter which model you have). It doesn't matter how hard Omega and Grand Seiko try, they won't beat Rolex.
The blue dial 41 mm datejust is a lovely watch , nice with the smooth or the white gold bezel , jubilee bracelet would be my choice . But many combinations are available , all a matter of personal preference . I still like the classic 36 mm too .
@@cedric182 even though I don't own a Rolex (yet), IMHO, the fluted bezel design is just class in every sense. What do you think is a better alternative?
I just put myself on a wait list at my local AD for a DateJust /silver dial smooth bezel . Although I love many watch styles and types, I have just grown up seeing this iconic watch on so many arms through my life it’s burned into my psyche. If I don’t get this iconic watch it will always be in the back of my head no matter what else I buy.
I’ve owned the aqua terra the bracelet and clasp is not the greatest quality when compared to the datejust also the omega has a slightly thicker case but as you said it’s each to there own👍👊
hey, as a young man in his 20s and getting a first and only one. Would you recom Rolex Sub or Rolex Datejust? To me its hard cause I know the sub is most copied watch with fakes etc and a lot of people owing one. Datejust on the other hand I don't hear as much about.
Datejust Jubilee is way more iconic than the Sub it wears amazing, great variety. Pre dates most active Rolex models. It wears great, love mine. Had a Sub and sold it, nowhere near as comfortable
I have the DJ 41mm white dial on oyster bracelet and smooth bezel and also a Submariner. Love both these pieces and rotate back and forth with them. I have found the DJ41 very solid and can be worn in both formal or sporty occasions.
Dear stephan, i am about to buy one DJ. However, the AD has only 41 (white dial, smooth bezel and oyster braclet) and 36 (blue dial, flutted bezel and oyster bracelt). I am so confused. What would be your suggestion? My wirst circumference is 6.5. I wore two of them. Although i feel closer to blue 36, i cant stop to think that it might be a bit small and looks a bit feminine. Many blogs and vlogs claim that 36 has been a norm for man watches for decades. To be honest, white dial is not my first choice especially after experiencing blue one. But the size concerns me a lot. Can i ask u and all other commenters to make statements about their experience with 41 and 36. Which one should I go?
@@yolgezerisvicrede it depends on how it feels and looks on your wrist. For me, the 36mm was too small. Since you admitted that the 36mm is looking small on your wrist, you know the answer even though you prefer the Dial color on the 36. I admit the 41mm can seem big but this will probably be better. Your other option is not to get the 41mm in white and wait till you can get the Dial color of your choice.
DJ 41 in blue or Wimbledon in SS, very hard to get. Two Tone is easier but the white fluted gold is also hard to get. I have my DJ for 30 years. Congratulations!!!
Like how dafuq why is that. Cginese watches that cost 20 bucks has that. I think all useful features should come above 1000, not alone 4000 plus. Like there is on the fly micro adjust on some 200 dollar watches (ofc they are mutch worse in all other regards). But for 4000k plus i expect GREAT (if not flawless) useability in sport watches.
Doesn’t change the fact that both of them offer way better value for money since Every time you buy a Rolex your paying for the ridiculous amount they spend on advertising. A date-just quality wise is not more than 5k
Love my Ball Engineer M Marvelight 40mm with 100m WR and an in-house chronometer movement that is shock resistant and antimagnetic. Tritium tubes look stunning in the dark. Costs almost one third of Rolex Datejust and 1/2 of Omega Aquaterra. Absolutely versatile watch.
Solid review. I love my datejust azzuro Roman numeral. I have dozens of Omegas but the DJ feels special every time. Not a fan of GS. I have tried. I just can’t get there. I also have a few Seamasters and again, really appreciate your point of view here
I’m waiting my 36 DJ like yours (oyster bracelet) and black dial for my 50th birthday ;) the blue one is the most desire color. I can change for this blue dial if I’m bored with the black sunburst dial after 2 years (did you know?) ;)
I don't care about popular. Since I was an early teenager (35 now) this watch but with the smooth bezel has been my dream watch. I want one for myself and my self alone to enjoy. Maaaaaybe someday haha.
Hi! Looking for my wedding watch and leaning towards datejust36 black with jublie. However, I’m stuck between dome vs fluted.. I want this to be an everyday + dressy occasion. Hence my style is more simple and minimal. I’m leaning towards dome but people tell me fluted is the iconic symbol of date just and that the dome looks inconsistent with jublie. What’s your take after owning the dome bezel + jublie configuration? Thanks!
Hi, I was in the same hesitation. I made my choice to dome and jubilee, and mint green dial. I am now waiting on list, can’t wait to have it. I think dome and jub is more easy to wear as everyday Watch.
when it comes to rolex datejust, i preferred the 36mm vintage classic. Recently i got my 16030 with jubilee bracelets, blue turning to lavender dial, with open 6 and 9 date wheel and best of all, comes with its original warranty certificate. Nowadays it is really hard to find one come with original tritium dial and matching tritium hands. Basically most come close to these criteria were either modified or parts changed.
Call me an old man but I've always wanted a classic 36mm two tone datejust with a champagne dial. Although nowadays its wayyyy overpriced because the amount of gold you get is no where near justifiable especially after working with jewelry and precious metals.
DJ blue dial is hot. only those have taste will love it. I do have sports model but sports model is just the value to shows. But this blue dial piece if have chance must keep one. Another piece Wimbledon must keep as well
Funny, in Austria the waiting list for a DateJust 126334 is about 3 years. I went to my Rolex dealer last week. If I were a new customer, I wouldn't be put on the list at all. Submariner with date 4 years, Submariner without date 4-6 years, Submariner steel / gold 1 year and Daytona, waiting list blocked. That is just disturbed. Luckily I have my Submariner 116613ln
Got the call last week from my local AD after a year and half on the list, fell in love with the blue dial DJ41, the jubilee bracelet sealed the deal and was the one I always wanted. Did not hesitate to buy it, and yes of course I have the Pepsi GMT and other sports watches on that list, so I hope this purchase bumped me up on the list for any of those…but I am chuffed to bits to have the DJ for now and since I am not going to sell any of my watches unless I fall hard on my rear it does not bother me what the resale is on them. Say what you want, and I do respect the feedback, but the Omega and GS doesn’t give me the emotion the Rolex does. I gotta say though they let me try the Pepsi GMT on jubilee bracelet which is THE ONE I really want of the lot and I could not stop smiling, and as long as that happens when you try a watch on then you know which is the right one for you 👌
Your so right , I’ve had umpteen Rolex’s and Omega’s,I’ve now got Datejust 41 chocolate dial with oyster bracelet and Pam1033,but I wish I never sold my Aqua Terra 41 great watch and no waiting lists and about £2500 cheaper than a Datejust ,thanks
Just bought my first Rolex this year, a 36mm DJ, Flutted Bezel, on Oyster. They had both the blue dial and silver, was tough to decide (I know blue is more popular) however, the silver sung to me far far more and I love it! In hindsight (was available) on the Jubilee would be perhaps a tough choice not to go with.

@@yolgezerisvicrede The 41 seems far too big vs the 36 being too small. 39 I think would be perfect, but doesn't come in that. I think the smaller look is good actually, it's not OVER compensating, and each time I tried a 41, it's far too big. Also, get the dial you want for SURE. You'll regret it if you don't. The 36, Blue Dial, Flutted (either bracelet) is a great choice IMO.
@@English2Elvish thank you so much for yout kind comment.:) the harder point is, 41 seems not so big for me, but the color is a really a big issue. White is pure blue is catchy. One another aspect is flutted bezels seem more resistant to hairline scratches. What do you think ?
@@perudolux Every aspect? Really? GS comes off as desperate. They're trying too hard. Let me explain. The Japanese are trying sooooo hard to make each individual component of the watch perfect. The zaratsu, the dial, the hands, etc. But sadly, it's only a sum of its parts, no matter how hard they try. GSs are boring, lifeless, sterile. A Daytona, Sub, Explorer etc, is more than a sum of its parts. They're all icons...of icons. Still far away, the Snowflake is the closest to that. But it, doesn't even have an identity. Is it a dress watch? It's chunkiness and oversized case, is it sporty? Lost And second, GS itself has no identity. They're taking a playbook from Omega, all the BS LEs, confusing, endless, catalog. Even a non microadjusting bracelet at they're asking prices is just asinine. I have an 9" wrist, and some of their designs are just laughable. I wouldn't even wear them. A 44mm GMT??? WTF I love Seiko, I have a solar Excelsior, and a couple Flightmasters I adore in the sub $300 category. The Flighty has so much potential. They could make that iconic if improved. It has such personality for $247 each recently. Throw on a NDC strap and ditch the Seiko bracelet, done. That is Seikos lane. Not luxury...yet. The 10 year parts availability policy from Seiko is a joke. That DJ will still be getting serviced in 30 years. Will that integrated circuit board on a GS still be running? Also , the zaratsu won't age well as it gets scratched. Rolexes patina well as they age. Prices across the board increase as a bonus. GSs can't compete. I'm sticking with the icons, of icons.
Brandon Nickerson I respect your opinion and agree on the microadjustement. I just bought a anniversary watch and decided for a snowflake. When me and my wife saw the snowflake in person at the store we immediately agreed that it was special watch and fell in love with the watch. Happy purchase so far, and resale value or iconic status appart, it gives me joy which is the most important
I think that the date wheel jars with the colour of the dial and that the dial colour will date the watch in the future - still prefer the white dial though it's harder to get with a smooth bezel and oyster bracelet.
Rolex should make WATCHES for Logeman not just the Asian market and Little Wolf Street bankers with thin girly wrists!! if only they came out with a 42 mm. I am talking about the datejust. It's still small on me, but it still looks OK at 41 mm but I wish it was a little larger still tiny.
whoa we have the same, i have a 114060, and a dj41 as well. but my dj41 is a Rhodium dial. actually that is almost all of my collection, just have a PAM774 of my 3rd watch.
The blue dial w bezel w Jubilee is as hard to get as other sports models. In Sydney I have been on wait list for almost two years. Other combinations easier access.
They're nice pieces though I wish they'd slim the dimensions down a bit. Getting below 12mm on their automatics would be a step in the right direction.
First Rolex? I think most go for Sumbariner and they do it just because well, they don't know any better. The Datejust is overlooked by first timers and I have find it much nicer whereas the Submariner is obviously more sporty while the Datejust is all class!
the jubilee bracelet is awesome. it sucks that you can't go into a store and buy a Rolex at retail and msrp. There is a reason for this because Rolexes are great watches. I have both the aqua terra (on the rubber strap and alligator strap) and datejust with jubilee bracelet. i do want a GS too.
I have watched your videos for quite a while - your video quality is OUTSTANDING. Also, the datejust is beautiful - but I'd get an AT and a BB36 for the around the same price.
I see the date just as a cosmetic classy dress watch. As such I went with the 36mm black face & sticks on a jubilee bracelet. I think 41mm is too big for what the datejust is supposed to be
I’ve owned and sold both watches (well, blue dial SMP). I don’t think it would work due to the size difference, the 39 Rolex wears a lot smaller than the SMP, it’s going to bug you switching between them (one watch will be too big or too small depending on your wrist size).
@@mkyhou1160 that’s personal taste. I don’t mind the big difference in size. I wear a turtle a lot so 42 is not that big. My rotation ranges from 37 to 45. Granted when I go from the smallest to the largest or vice versa it feels awkward for a bit but nothing I can’t handle so a 3mm difference wouldn’t be that bad. I have 7in wrist btw so pretty average
So I walked into a Rolex AD during the last week of June. Sitting there in the case, for sale, were two Rolex DJ41. One was grey dial smooth bezel, oyster bracelet. The second was the blue dial, fluted bezel, jubilee bracelet. I was on a waitlist for the z-blue Milgauss, so I didn't want to use the Milgauss funds for that. Four days later, both are still just sitting there waiting to be purchased. I passed, and thankfully so cause three days later I got the call for the Milgauss and the next day it was on my wrist.
@@Don-107 $10,250. It's due to the fluted bezel being made of white gold. Its nice, but I paid less for my Batman on jubilee, my Milgauss and my Polar Explorer II and I like all three better than that DJ41.
The exact date just was my first luxury watch (without fluted bezel) and absolutely no regrets. I managed to get a batman GMT and hated it. Only good thing is I could sell it within hours of deciding it was not for me (pondered a few months but just didn't feel comfortable at al).. Personally the Datejust is the only Rolex that interests me, I like the look of the Yatch master but have yet to try one on and guess it may be the same result as the Batman. Since my first luxury watch being. Rolex I have moved to Omega (Aqua Terra Chrono GMT and Seamaster Trilogy) and Tudor (BB Bronze and Pelagus). The Rolex sits among them as a favorite but probably the one I wear the least.
Great comparison, your right that any one is a fantastic choice. I think long term the Rolex DJ especially the blue color way is a better all around choice. The DJ is nearly twice the cost so the GS and Omega become attractive. That said your advice to get what you truly desire is good advice
Would it be possible to render future videos in true 21:9 (or 2.35:1)? I most phones (and even a ton of monitors) are becoming that ratio. It's also the ratio used for all Hollywood movies. It looks like you rendered a 16:9 with black bars on the top and bottom.
Tough one. GS is cool but a distant 3rd. The AT has that awesome rubber strap and the 3d dial is next level. DJ with a smooth bezel and jubilee is sick and so close to the hyped pro models.
Had the GS White Birch.. stunning watch, and the new Aqua Terra. Both difficult to sell privately, and you’ll lose a lot of money! Best put your hard earned money into the DJ
I lile every three watches. But the AT is the most versatile. Dress up with a leather strap unser a suit. Dress down with a nato at the beach or leave the bracelet for edc. I love the AT 🥰
I have 7 inch wrist and every time i watch these kind of videos i feel like a 36mm will just fine until i rush to the dealer and say what were you thinking.I came to the conclusion if you want your watch to look like a bracelet buy a 36mm DJ or just buy a bracelet. If you want watch to be substantial wrist present and show were your money went buy a 41.
I am not an Omega guy. I could have been a GS one because spring drive is simply perfection but before being able to afford me valuable watches I wore a (nice) Seiko Kinetic but it was so frustrated, reason why now I don't want to wear the brand anymore (bit silly and irrational, but...). New target is a 36 DJ, I love the new green leaves one but with a Jubilee, DJ = Jubilee for me ;)
Great Video. I have this exact watch and it gets the most wrist time. This watch can literally do it all. Some people think it is dressy but this watch conforms to whatever you are wearing. These days, shoes with laces and a shirt with buttons is getting dressed up and the DJ41 looks right at home with whatever. The other watches in the collection are a Pelogos, Speedy, and BB GMT so I skew more towards the sport models. However, I constantly find myself reaching for the DJ41.
