Tim as usual abosultely amazing content! I always feel better after going through your videos. This is more for my intellectual curiosity but I would love it if you could do a video why you seem to focus so much on the vestibular system and how you design your movements to improve the functioning of this system. Keep up the excellent videos!

One of the guidelines with hip replacements is to not cross the femurs. I can bring my leg over to the other side if I'm prone/flat, and do the rolling movement. Being in the upright prone posture, sphinx pose, is more difficult, and I would not suggest performing that move with hip replacements (to either one hip or both hips). Although, I'd love to be able to perform that series of movements.
@OriginalStrengthSystem
@OriginalStrengthSystem 6 лет назад
Yes, always follow your guidelines. But do take advantage of where you can move and do what you can. Thanks so much for contributing.

am the one in error, not you or anyone else, but since you explain so well I was hoping you could help me discern between two things. I've been rolling, starting sometimes with lower and sometimes with upper. But I've recently heard that you don't want mobility in the lumbar spine, trying to send that hip back, I think I"m doing it in a way that is encouraging mobility in the lumbar spine. How do you do this, without saying "Hey lumbar" rotate", you don't want that, right? If you could clarify, I would be so appreciate. I love this roll but I have had a lot of instability lately in my si joint, wondering if I"m doing this wrong.
@ImpulsoCreativo9322
@ImpulsoCreativo9322 4 года назад
and to be exact, it was the "floor scorpion" exercise that was being criticized because it was said it makes your lumbar spine forced into being mobile and it's not meant to be mobile. Since I"m hyper mobile and have SI joint issues, I don't want that either. But I bet there's a difference in Your exercise and this floor scorpion" that I"m not picking up on. If you can help me, thanks

Andrea, this is just my lens on things, Ok? But here goes: The lumbar spine is indeed made to rotate - not as much as the thoracic, but still, it is designed for rotation, that’s why it can do that. IF we do not use our design. We risk being able to use it when we need it, or we risk losing it. Not moving something that moves is rarely the answer unless severe injury has happened. And still that is a temporary answer. Now, you say you are hyper mobile. If that is true, it’s not that you don’t need to move certain joints as much as you need to CONTROL certain joints. You could learn to roll, exploratively and slowly, to gain control and not move beyond what is a healthy range. You can teach and learn from your body. Please understand, I’m not telling you to rotate your lumbar spine. I’m only telling you that it is indeed designed to rotate. Learn to experience your design. Be curious. Play. Don’t be afraid to explore or question. Don’t move into pain. Don’t move into fear/stress. But trust you. Don’t trust me. Ok?

@@OriginalStrengthSystem sounds good. Thanks. I value your opinion very much. I wonder where alk the physical therapists get the idea and tell people that it should never rotate and worse still to rotate and bend down at the same time. I wonder where this all came from. I will try rolling more slowy and be aware of not going too far. That IS my problema. Does rolling also strengthen the muscles around the joints so they will have more control? My problem is I always try and too far thus things slip out. I know I need strength. So the key to getting the most strength out of your moves is to go slow and stay in range?
@OriginalStrengthSystem
@OriginalStrengthSystem 4 года назад
Rolling does strengthen the muscles around the joints. Yes, slow and controlled, no breath holding, small ranges. But don’t roll with fear. If fear present, crawl instead. It works many of the same wonders and more.

As long as you’re not in pain or moving into pain you should be okay. You can also explore where you can move along with where your body wants to move.
