One of my favorite games ever. Fun fact: After this game, three armed robbers pulled a heist at Jack Murphy Stadium and made away with $300,000. It was the largest robbery in San Diego history at the time.

Classic decade of the 1980's

Just saw the news about Lionel "Little Train" James. Earliest game of Raiders heartbreak I remember was them losing in OT in '85, largely due to "Little Train" James. Six years old but was already taking copium to be a Raiders fan. The original Darren Sproles. RIP.

These 85-88 Chargers unis are underrated.

NBC's presentation was superb in the 80's. The announcers, the graphics, the audio....all of it was incredible.

This game shows how the AFC in the 80s was a conference of offensive firepower. The NFC had all the defensive juggernauts.

Marcus Allen always looked as if he was jogging. I think that is why people said he was slow. The fact was,he was not wasting any effort.

The last gasps of Air Coryell. Even at his advanced age Dan Fouts could operate that offense efficiently like it was second nature to him. Just the previous year in '84 the Chargers had what I think was the greatest all around drive in Air Coryell history against the Dolphins.

Ooooo thank you my friend. Last season Air Coryell was a dominant offensive force. Fouts and the boys are my favorite non-49ers offense. Also, Don Criqui on the call. Double bonus. Lionel James went off in this game, and also got 1000 yards receiving on the season alongside Roger Craig.

Raiders losing in OT to the Chargers the same day you break this one out. Typical. One of the first games I remember watching as a kid. Wish someone would've told me to get used to this as a Raiders fan.

Boy those raiders-chargers games were fun to watch, the excitement of chargers offense from wideouts, tight end and RB was hard to contain But despite having highest scoring offense in 85 they finish 8-8 cause there defense surrender so many points...Todd christentin was one heck of a player, raiders was im position to make superbowl with home field advantage and the league MVP but those Patriots upset everyone in AFC

Coming from a non charger fan I wish the Chargers were still in San Diego they actually had a fan base back then

Todd Christiansen was so special I can understand why hes not in the HOF as his peak years were not as many as some of the other tight ends of his era, but he was as good if not better than guys like Kellen Winslow for a stretch of his career. Id love to see him go in after we get Lester Hayes is. And Rod Martin should be in, and if you ignore Matt Millen the GM he had a HOF career 4 super bowls with 3 teams.

When Fouts was on a roll he was hard to stop.The undefeated Dolphins found that out the previous year.The Chargers offense usually played well against the Raiders even when the Raiders were good and Chargers bad.

Al Davis copied the 1960 original Los Angeles Chargers shield logo when Al Davis left the Los Angeles Chargers coaching staff in 1962 to become the Oakland Raiders manager in 1963 he then added the original Los Angeles Chargers shield logo to the Oakland Raiders pirate logo on 1963 Coincidentally The Oakland Raiders pirate logo didn’t have the shield logo originally birth year of 1960-1962 until Al Davis joined the Raiders on 1963 then coincidentally added the shield to the pirate logo.
