Let's sip craft cocktails at a new cantina, eat at some of my FAVORITE RESTAURANTS in Guadalajara, shop at a bougie mall & more in this weekend in the life vlog. I moved to Guadalajara from Querétaro in November 2022 & with each passing month, this city feels more and more like home 🥰

Alex! Great suggestions. I’ve been to the thrift market at parque rojo, the bike riding and cafe Mandatario as well. 10 days in GDL and I’m trying to feel like a local. Would love to meet for a cafe if you can. 😊

Guadalajara is great in a lot of ways. I hear folks from places like the US and Canada saying, “Oh the cost of living here is so low.” Or “Oh Mexicans are the nicest people.” “Oh it’s safe here.” What can I say, what these folks say, is not “untrue” in that, well, this is really what life in Mexico is usually like for people coming from rich countries. But for those of us, folks, who are just “Mexican,” it can be a whole different story. For it is in the nature of Mexicans, to be “overly nice” to foreigners, but they’re not necessarily so nice to each other. In fact, one of the thinks that I personally dislike most about Guadalajara, is the rudeness, and the negativity, of a lot of its people. Yes, of course I’ve met some wonderful people along the way. But for me to say, that, generally speaking, people in GDL, are usually “nice” or “welcoming” is really saying too much. As for life being affordable here: yes. It may be affordable for those of you, fortunate enough to make money in dollars (or other things) while living here. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I know I am, though. Because for the system, I’m just a Mexican, making money in Mexican pesos, and the cost of living is super expensive. As far as safety goes: Yes, it may be really safe, for most of you, foreign folks. But for us, the average citizens, is a whole different story. Safety, is in fact, my main issue here. Anyway. I talk a lot about negativity, and I guess this comment, is not so “positive.” Come to GDL. Overall, you’ll like it here. Thanks for this video. 👋

This is a very thoughtful comment & I appreciate you taking the time to share it. What you’re saying here is a valuable reminder for anyone who comes to Mexico. The Mexican experience can vary greatly from the foreign experience. Thank you, Miguel.

@miguelidcomm
@miguelidcomm 2 месяца назад
@@p.c.h.6721 Hola.

Saludos cordiales.

Those scooters, especially the foldable ones, seem like a great way to get around a place like GDL. I'd stick with the bike lanes though. 👀

Gotta be vigilant even in the bike lane! I'm always coming across debris & lately a few biggish sticks/branches with all the wind we've been having in GDL.

My town just let those 1/2 hour rental scooters in. I think they are dangerous as well, and a helmet is a must. My issue is that where I live, we have an awesome waterfront trail along the shore of Lake Ontario, and there are lots of children around. Someone is going to hit one of these kids. No more negative, excellent post by you once again.

I’ve never lived in a city where you could rent the scooters via an app, but I’ve spent a lot of time in Berlin & Munich where they’re absolutely everywhere. I love GDL’s city bike system and hope they don’t let scooter rentals into the city 🙅🏻‍♀️

I recommend reaching out to Ivonne Pavaan at Host Relocation: hostrelocation.com.mx/ She is in Queretaro but has a colleague in GDL that she will put you in touch with. The best way to get in touch with Ivonne is sending her a message via WhatsApp (the number is the one listed on the website).
