I always feel like it was wasted talent. Lil Mama had the ingredients to be big. But it goes to show you. One false move can cost you everything in life. No matter how well you built yourself up. Just felt like Jay could have played along with it and then pulled her to the side and scolded her. I don't know
@@MackTatum I wouldn’t say him because his peak was high. Hammer had a Saturday morning cartoon! He had a harder fall off, because his height was so high
What makes me sad about Lil Mama is that she was (is) actually talented as f**k… Can actually rap, dance… it was crazy how everyone was banging on the table singing “what you know bout me” when she came out… I remember when she released that A Milli freestyle. She had one of the better A Milli freestyles of that..
Her music has to do that and it just doesn't... She can sing good asf low key. I wish she'd just stay consistent and hot so that we can have more to talk about than that moment
@PancakeDiaries facts... I was in high school when lip gloss came out, and tbh that dumb ass song was a straight bop. I'm not a fan per say but I never thought she was "wack".
@@StanleyMalbroughRoninHD I never thought she was nice like that but I just checked those tracks that this video said she dropped... She cooked everything but the views reflect the public disinterest. Damn, artist need to just do it for the love sometimes. The career part makes it a job and those are no fun
Hated that song. Jay actually copied Nas again. Nas already made a song with Alicia Keys called New York State of Mind with Rakim. Jay has always copied people's wave. Just like Drake.
With all the weird, creepy, and evil stuff powerful people in the industry get up to, there is no reason Lil Mama should have been canceled for something so petty.
💯, should've let her shine, shocked more ppl from the NYC werent on stage with them. Could've been like she's next up, put her and a couple of other younger cats on the remix. Jay was too big not to reach back and bring that lil girl and others up who was obviously a fan with them. What happens to respect for having guts to be bold. In the 80 or 90s that would've gotten someone on or in a better position, 2010s was bad business, such a cornball era. Let that would've been RunDMc or somebody back in the day with a female R n B artist they wouldn't have canceled or let this young artist career stall, dude was in a position to put her in a position, and he dropped the ball. Wonder why the NYCers say NYC music is trash because ppl in NYC weren't helping them get on like that, it's a shame. Oh well what can you do.
She earned her humbling in that moment. And even after the repercussions, she still didn't seem to accept that what she did was wrong. That said, everyone deserves second chances. And knowing what I know now; it could've been the protection she needed to keep her away from being invited to Diddy parties. She was definitely on her way to really crossong over at that point.
She’s a true triple threat I’m glad she was able to showcase it,after the VMA awards incident I’m definitely a fan of her work, she’s resilient plus persevered over so much, especially losing her mother while trying to breakout as a star, the light may have dimmed but she’s not fading away anytime soon….. 2006 you had LIL MAMA,YUNG B,TEYANA TAYLOR storming the rap and hip hop scene in NY… That summer of 06-07 is classic behind LIP GLOSS,CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP, BOY YOU AND ME….
I actually had high hopes for Lil Mama in highschool. But that VMA really put a nail in the ⚰ for her music career; though she did a great job playing Left Eye in that TLC movie for VH1.
Lil Mama made that performance imo! It would’ve been forgotten if she didn’t jump on stage. Some artists have done way worse and still have a platform and relevancy. She made a mistake, got clowned, and now people should move on
They should've embraced her and schooled her on the game instead of treating her & destruction of her career. Jay & Alicia, you shall reap what you sow. Trust it
She’s actually aged gracefully into the acting world. Remember she played left eye in the TLC movie, that movie with lance gross and I think another movie she was in I liked.
She can try to justify it how she wants but that stage crash was super disrespectful and inconsiderate. Its not even the point that it was Jay Z and Alicia Keys (though that obviously doesn't help), its the fact that those sets take hours and hours of rehearsal, preparation, choreography, back up singers and all the behind the scenes work from the people who aren't even seen to make the sets go as best as possible. Only for Lil Mama of all people to come along and just inject herself in during the live performance without a care in the world or a thought to her fellow performing artists time and effort put into their craft.
Now in Lil Mama defense we didn’t know she was only 18/19, and it was SOOOOOO much other shit that happened at that VMAs so for social media to highlight it like it was the only thing that happened is crazy and most of if not all of us are guilty for making jokes about it but damn if we had context that she was that young I don’t think we would have cuz it’s alot of nut shit 2016 XXL Freshman list(and beyond) at 18/19
Lil Mama is from the era where artist have one or a couple songs takeoff. Then they fall off the face of the earth. I can't remember the last time I heard a lil mama song
The Lil Mama incident happened on the same night in which Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift's award acceptance speech. I wouldn't be surprised if she was inspired by what Ye did that night. As an artist herself, she should understand that music artists do a lot of rehearsing in preparation for their performances. They do not prepare for people coming on stage for no reason.
Never liked her music. it sounded corny af. But that Jay Z and Alicia Keys bs really did it for me. OMFG the audacity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just imagine if 50 Cent did that to Hov when 50 had the How To Rob song out. 50 wouldve been finished before he started. It was pathetic af
The punishment never fit the crime. I never understood why she received that much hate. To be labeled for the rest of your life for one mistake that wasn’t that serious…😒
I saw that MTV show I really thought she was a surprised guest going on the stage rap or song or dance or something. I later realize she wasn't supposed to go. I wonder why security let her go up there without stopping her. That tell me if she can do it that means anyone can go up the stage
Even to this day, i felt she shouldn't had done it. In life, you have to know the right time to do things. She misread her time. Lil Mama had simething special. But at the same time, Jay could have givem her a break. Man, that guy is a narcissist for real. Like couldn't just pull her to the side after it all and school her on game? Just feel like there was so much talent wasted here.
I hope she has moved on from that ideology. Gender and sexuality is so much more complex than the confines we try to box it in. It’s 2024! Time to leave that dead energy at the door.
So uh yeah, yeezy dropped one of the best albums of his entire discography after losing his mother. Let that sink in! 3rd growth stunt should've definitely been the breakfast club interview, nail in the coffin if you will 🤣🤣🤣
Kanye kept releasing 🔥 music... Lil Mama already took too long to drop her debut album after releasing Lip Gloss, No Music, and they school bus song... Then a long break with the Jay incident... She wasn't punished by the fans or media as much as by her own self. She's not a fire rapper to me but her music is digestible. Sausage was a dope record and caught steam but her the drama attached that killed that buzz. I wish she'd sing instead of rap; I love her singing voice
Agreed. I remember that night. That was insane. He hijacked it. At least Lil Mama just went on the stage and kicked it. Kanye grabbed the mic from.her and said what he said
NEVER liked that New York song either...and I roll my eyes to the back of my head when people sing that song to rep NYC....I rather hear Frank Sinatra or Ja Rule NY tribute songs...
I am so sick and tired of these Lil Mama videos...Over a "stage crash''? MEANWHILE 'UGLY RED" just crashed the stage and started twerking during a country performance and it got glorified...the main reason why Lil Mama got so much disrespect is because similar to what u stated in the beginning of your video, she was moreso for the 80's and 90's era where her style of music was more accepted..she refused to glorify sex and adult content in her music and that didnt fit ''the agenda''...Lil wayne was supposed to be her mentor, but ther sent him Nicki Minaj to help invalidate her instead...The stage crash was just a RED HERRING...
