I have a pair of Adam Audio speakers but am looking for more of a club sound as I exclusively listen to edm and house music. This video was by far the best I’ve seen on the VM-80’s. This guy knows his stuff!
Thank you for an awesome informative review! This is by far the best one I’ve seen in a long time especially as you cover all the settings, aspects of the monitors but also importantly explain the different requirements that DJ’s need for their sets and producers want for their studios. The VM-80 are definitely great monitors owning a pair I am extremely happy with them for djiing, I find these the best monitors I’ve had. I also own a pair of Presonus Eris XT-8 which are fantastic, however to my ears the Presonus are nicer to just listen to music but not as great performing dj sets. The VM-80 provides us with a quality monitor capable of fulfilling two different requirements. Thank you once again 👍
You're correct about the advantages of a Class D amp you forgot to mention the Pioneer Electronic Bulit model has a Class A/B amp. While less efficient than a Class D it has the most linear response with the lowest distortion of the amp designs which is what you want in a reference speaker. Same with the DSP, if you are using them as a reference speaker you don't want the speaker to do any additional processing.
A very comprehensive & sensible review....very helpful, thank you. 😎 I have a question & I would really like your opinion on it.....According to the spec sheet, the VM-50's go down to 40Hz(which seems quite impossible, at this modest price point?) In another review video, some guy did some sort of spectral analysis & he determined that the roll off point was at 61Hz....care to share your thoughts on this?
I would have to find a large room to do that in but the secret is in the DSP. It can push frequencies that are weaker. At the low and high ends beyond the natural voicing of the drivers. This is actually a common feature with higher end powered PA speakers to help expand it's frequency response. Just based on experience, even the VM-70s have a noticeably thick low end.
@@priyonjoni So in other words, having the VM-50's on the "club" setting, would constitute on or around 40Hz? 50Hz would serve my purpose well enough, as I will merely be using the VM-50's for sequencing & playing on my Roland Fantom 06( & I'll leave the critical mixing for my KRK Rokit G4 7's within my PC workstation area. )The VM-70's look interesting enough, but not quite suitable for my confined space. Thanks for your input.
On the back of the VM speakers, there is graph that shows exactly what each setting does. Here's a link to the product page. Pull up the photo of the rear. www.pioneerdj.com/en/product/monitor-speakers/vm-80/black/overview/#info
Hi there , thank you for your amazing videos and tutorials. I have a question I would love to know which kind of speakers Are suitable for a terrace café for deejaying. I use often my monitors studio Adam ( R7) however it’s not obviously not enough. Please would you be kind to recommend me, which any good speakers , I could get ? Thanks again and keep doing the great work. 🙏🙏🙏.
I don’t recommend using studio speakers for any gig. The speaker cones aren’t protected. There are, however, small powered speakers for those applications.
Wouldn’t recommend either for a house party because of the exposed woofer and tweeter. They will be prone to getting poked. Better to use powered PA speakers.
I don’t notice anything unless I have a noisy device plugged in. If your input gain is high enough to hear noise, that means they’re up too loud. I have mine set at 10 o clock.
hi Pri, im a little lost 😂😂. I love edm and music festivals, I would love to replicate the sound and affect at home, would you recommend this speakers to listen to music? or would it be better to buy something cheaper like a audioengine setup with subwoofer?
Honestly, you can't really replicate the full experience of the sound and acoustic space of a festival inside a small room only because there's not enough space to generate those long waves, nor is there far enough distances to get the same acoustic delay. The best thing to do is to get a home theater or surround setup and use one of the preset DSP settings like Arena or Stadium. That might be better for replicating a music festival sound using a 5.1 or Atmos system.
What a wireless bluetooth active speaker you may recommend for me at this moment, at the ned of 2022 ? What is the upcoming active speakers in 2023 that you see?
I have a DDJ-1000 controller and am playing melodic house and techno music. Would you recommend these VM-80 for a small gig (like a villa party for 50 people).?
@@francescog53550 I would say that the Pioneer DJ VM-80 would blow the K8.2 right out of the water in that regard, particularly with the monitor's L4 DSP setting engaged.
