I can’t believe I understood the whole book in 5 minutes. I’m reading the easy reader for school and didn’t understand a single word. Thanks mate, you’re saving me from a bad grade Update: I got a 6 (best grade in my country) and that was just enough to get me to a 6 in my report card. I cant believe it. You’re a life saver

I was so lost in the book and tried watching a video to understand it and that didn’t even help, but this, this made me understand everything cause there were no overly complicated words to try and sound fancy. Just straight hard facts.

Hey ThugNotes, I literally just finished Tale of Two Cities for the first time in my life. Yeah, I'm 38. I had a bad high school. Anyway I have this 100% fresh in my mind. You hit it dead on the head. Thanks for sharing this.
@iwritechecksatthegrocerystore
I’m 38 and just read it myself. It was… not great. My least favorite Dickens I’ve read, honestly if it wasn’t for the ending I think the book wouldn’t be nearly as well renowned. The ending really swooped in and saved it, for me at least.

As you noted, Charles Darnay = CD = Charles Dickens, but there is also more name doubling going on. Sydney Carton = Saint Denis Carton = DC (an inversion of CD). Saint Denis was a martyr who was beheaded in Paris.

Hey, Thug Notes - just finished this book FINALLY. Wrote a blog post about it, and then started thinking: Hey! What would Thug Notes say about this book? Love your summation and analysis. I'm going to do a follow-up post about book reviewers. I love your reviews. As a former English teacher (college freshmen), I wish I had had access to something like this to offer as an alternative to just the usual dry or even quirky academic or journalistic analysis. I get the sense you actually love literature. It comes across in your voice and your ability to get at right at the heart of a book. Thanks!

Finally! Damn. You should cover something along the lines of philosophical fiction, like Thus Spoke Zarathustra, or The Fountainhead. Not trying to cramp your style, just my opinion. Your analysis is the best part, and books like that would provide a beefy analysis. Keep it up, great stuff- I'll be here when you update....in 2 months. Edit: just saw you guys uploaded "The Raven" last week. I look dumb.
