Interestingly, it also shares the 55mm diameter with the Sigma 56mm F1.4 lens, which allows for an interesting pack (the 11-22, the 18-150 and the 56mm) all sharing filters and the sigma's lens hood.
Yes, just like the kit 15-45 both have a Collapse switch, it's for portability reasons, as you mentioned, the idea of the whole M series was to make it all small and portable.
This is a truly fantastic and unbiased review Julian. I have had this lens for about 6 months and use it for vlogging - best features of it if for me is the very good IS especially at 11mm - it has a considerable better IS than the kit lens. Although I already have it, I still learnt something particularly about barrelling and chromatic aberrations. Great video 👍😊
I bought this lens for boat photo work, I hadn't realised it had such a degree of barrel distortion at a distance but it's obvious close up. I bought an M100 with kit lens (15-45) which I thought would give me 24mm equivalent wide angle for my boat photo's but then discovered (as I take in 4:3) that the aps-c sensor is a natural 3:2 frame so I was only getting approx 28mm wide angle. The only way forward was to buy the 11-22 which I use at 14mm as that's equivalent to 24mm in 4:3. In hindsight I wish I'd bought the Lumix LX100 which probably would have been a better replacement for my ageing Ricoh GX200. Only positive was I managed to get a good, used M3 to use the kit lens with and also I'm able to use my old Mamiya Sekor ZE SLR lenses with a cheap adapter which has given some interesting results, particularly with the 50mm 1.7. Great review!
I have a Sigma 16mm F.14 and I love the quality, but for long hikes it's heavy and bulky. Really tempted to go for this more versatile lens. Just not sure how the sharpness compares, as I know the Sigma 16mm is super sharp and I can easily crop images by ~30% and keep good detail.
Very detailed and classy review, I bought both 11-22mm and 32mm lenses after your reviews, just noticed you also appeared to have the 18-150mm lens as well, why don’t you do a detailed review of that as well, I am very interested in that lens, thanks in advance!
I found this really good man, well presented and solid info! im looking into the EOS m system at the moment - i initially started out with Fuji but ended up getting disgruntled with the lack of lens choice and also the extortionate prices for lenses from them! Got myself a panasonic fz1000 for the last 12-18 month for just zooming about on my motorbike and shooting scenery and then passing bikers, its worked well BUT i find its leaving me wanting on the tele end and the wide end AND the sensor is smaller than a MFT sensor.. This EOS M stuff seems to be a niche but one that suits me, this 11-22 EF-M lens looks really decent BUT i do like that "wide lens look" that you get from a wide angle lens when you get some distortion and pushing all the backround away, not too sure from my research how well this 11-22mm EF-M lens does this however when your subject is fairly close to the lens? Would the Rokinon 12mm F2 do a better job of that? i dont want a fisheye lens as such but just a lens that gives that "wide angle look" more. Is what im seeing what you referred to at the end of the image that whole 16mm FF to 18mm FF equiv??? is that why im not seeing that "wide angle look" in this lens for the most part??? Laowa make a MFT lens which is 7.5mm F2 so im assuming that lens FF is 15mm equiv compared to say 18mm equiv of the 11-22 EOS m lens? I thought APSC was x1.5 so 11x1.5 is actually 16.5mm equiv?
I deal with quite a bit of noise when using my m50 if I don’t have a ton of light. I know a lot has to do with the f4-5.6 but I was wondering if I may be doing something wrong with the settings?
Gracias por la información de los lentes canon ef-m soy usuario de la canon m50 desde hace unos 5 años y he comprado varios lentes de esta seria, actualmente que opinión tiene de esta cámara y esta serie Ef-m? Gracias
Good question. It all depends on what you want to do. If you are looking for alot of BOKEH and low light handheld I would opt for the 16mm. The 11-22 howeve im my experience is at lest as sharp, much smaller and alot wider...
