Grimes Lake is a coulee lake found in the central Columbia Basin in eastern Washington. This remote selective gear rules lake has a limited season and is best fished by smaller craft. This makes it an ideal location for kayak anglers looking to catch big trout in a beautiful and peaceful location. The lake is alkaline and stocked with Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fry that grow up to 20" although most fish will average 16-18". The kid and I were just there last week; almost ran into you. We were killing it trolling MagLips (based on your other Lahontan video). We found the 2.0 and the 2.5s were working best at grimes at ~1.8 mph. 1 1/2 oz lead. Then we went to Blue Lake where they wanted big and fast. MagLip 3.0 at 2mph and 2-3 oz lead. We had both lakes to ourselves and nonstop action on big fish. Just about everything was 16”+ and biggest was just over 20” at grimes (he was pretty skinny compared to others though.) Real ‘biggest’ was a 19.5” at Blue Lake that was THICK. What great fisheries. Thanks for the content. You inspired one amazing trip for us. Cheers!

Outstanding job with offering the advice about not being so rigid in your thinking to stick with one particular technique and the value of trying a completely different approach when the catch rate isn't what you were hoping for. Lahontan are an interesting strain of Cutthroat that can grow to epic proportions and those were some healthy looking examples. I've seen pics from Omak of some very large Lahontan Cutts but it seems like most anglers rely on stalking and spotting them from the bank in the Spring as they are cruising the shoreline. Would be interesting to see if you can solve the riddle of how to catch a monster from your kayak.

You can only keep one Trout of 18"+! No bait, no scent, single barbless hooks, knotless nets, etc. Seems like a very limited ruleset there. Cool video though! Thanks for sharing!

Looks like a good place for my autopilot 136. I missed where you were, can you repeat the name of the lake. I just replaced my lead acid with a dakota lithium 100 Amp hour. The weight is wonderful among all the other benefits. Great video, thanks
