A TRUE STORY: SOMETHING BAD HAPPENED HERE...

EXPLORE WITH US

Today we cover a true story of murder, theft, and a wild west style shootout. We visit a place where there was a shootout. When the dust cleared, there was one dead and two wounded. But the story doesn't end there. Let's explore the location of the shootout and another location related to the shootout.
SPOILER ALERT:
Okay, I know the story is a little convoluted, so let me go ahead and put out the characters and a time line for you.
Brothers:
Timothy Dale
Warren Dale
Other Characters:
Wenta Household:
Steve Wenta
Doug Fink
Doug Fink’s Wife and Children
Jim Malone - Owned the mine where the Dale brothers worked
Scott Rice - Informant who saw Timothy kill Warren
Timeline:
1973
Tim and Warren Dale head up to Steve and Doug’s house.
Tim: 19 years old
Warren: 27 years old
Steven Wenta: 76 years old
Doug Fink: 31 years old
Tim and Dale get into a shootout with Steven and Doug over stolen mining equipment. Steven is killed, Doug is wounded, and Warren is wounded.
Between 1973 - 2000 no information
2001 Timothy Dale kills his brother Warren and dumps his body down a mine shaft. Scott Rice witnessed the murder, but remained silent until:
2003 Scott Rice comes forward and tells his story about Warren killing Dale and the location of the body.
“The second crime was murder. The eyewitness testified at the preliminary hearing that he watched as Tim Dale beat his brother with his fist and then bludgeoned him with a large rock.
Warren Dale's body was later dumped in an old mine shaft.”

my boss told me a story about how he found some poor souls remains out in the bush while gold mining in the late 70s. At the time he was working with some shady foke who were looking for mining gear to steal and sell for scrap, they came apon a forgotten logging road and followed it to a cabin with a long shed and a bunch of old machinery laying around. While the others were loading salvage into there trailer, my boss went into the cabin and found someones skeleton laying on the bed grinning at him with a bullet hole in its skull. They took the authorities out to the spot and they figured the murder went down in in 1931, as that was the last date on some documents in the cabin. Gold mining and murder go hand in hand.

its ok, in five billion years the sun will gain mass and swallow the earth whole, completely eliminating those memories in a galaxy infinitesimally small compared to the infinite reaches of space.. Or maybe its not ok, im not sure anymore. Where was i going with this?

I feel the same. Life happened here. Good times, bad times, etc. Peoples hopes and dreams. There's something about all of these discarded items, remnants left behind - items that tell a story, that resonates sadness inside of me, and it makes me want to know more. Then again, maybe I think and feel way too much.

Im in a Mojave Desert Explorers group and a few weeks ago I learned that back in the day, pioneers and huntsman used Worcestershire sauce to cover up the gamey taste on meat. A few of the Mojave Desert Explorers have come across really old and beautiful bottles of the stuff, so it was interesting to have seen a bottle of Worcestershire sauce there. As always, loved the drone footage. 👌

Terry I think it also dependant on their diet. Same thing with catfish...if you soak it in milk, it supposidly will take out the muck taste. Catfish are mud dwellers and opportunistic eaters and will eat garbage. Ive never had wild caught catfish taste good, so I always toss them back.

The scariest things are reality and true stories and history.. Chills me!! It's creepy to think ppl lived in places this far out. Imagining how they got the materials to build houses the hard work to transport cattle and have electricity and food and crops. It's all scary because it's real... These things in history inspired horror movies I'm sure of it!!

I knew Jim Malone or "Oaky Jim". In fact I would consider him a good friend. It was hard for me to believe that he was actually evolved in the murder or the thievery mentioned. Jim had a lot of friends. I never heard anyone speak Ill of him. All charges were dropped against Jim. I knew Tim Dale but not as well as Jim. Tim always seemed such a nice person. He would have been the last person I would suspect to kill anyone. But, it looks like I was wrong. What is really hard to understand....... WHY it took years for Scott Rice to come forward as a witness.
@ExploreWithUs
@ExploreWithUs 7 лет назад
Thank you for the info Bob, and I agree, why did Scott Rice take years to come forward about what he witnessed? Do you think he was afraid? I also thought it was strange how Jim Malone and Tim Dale both told the police that Warren had drove off with California plates. Seems they didn't have enough evidence on Malone, and he may have been completely innocent, but that just seemed strange how they both lied about the stolen property and Warren driving off to California. Did you ever meet Warren?

Karen, you are so correct. Just the way the place is lay'd out with such detail and effort in building the primary home shelter, you know there were dreams and laughter placed and left here. The place is just begging any visitors to just hesitate a moment and view and feel the ghostly vibs that are drifting, shifting around with the slightest breath of wind.

Honestly, I really don't care at all how often you say "old" or whatever word you want to describe something with. I don't know who is giving you grief about it but do whatever you want. Your videos are already far more interesting than most exploring videos because you narrate as you go along and you have history to go with it when you can. Also, I love how you follow up on stories when you're able. Just keep doing things the way you like to and don't worry about people picking apart simple things like "you say old too much" that's just silly. Love your videos!!!

Great story and video! @7:28 there is a pair of Levi's jeans. If they are from the 70's the could be valuable! If it's not to far, GO BACK and get them!! Do research. I, for a fact, know that people in Russia, China and Japan pay big money $800+ for a pair of vintage Levi's jeans or jackets, even damaged ones. I "flip" clothes online for extra money.

I am only speculating. But I really doubt that Scott was REALLY an eye witness. But someway over a period of time, picked up the story. Maybe over too many beers. Then thinking if Jim and Tim were out of the way and gone, he could claim one of their gold claims. Or maybe even Jim's property. That property had some great free gold on it. Even I found several nuggets there. Jim recovered one over 30 ounces.I had met Warren. But didn't really know him. I had met Scott also. But, can't say I really knew him. When I met Scott, he was drywashing for gold on one of my claims in Arizona. I wasn't aware the HE was THE SCOTT that was the witness of the murder at the time or I would have brought it up in conversation.

Thank you for the info Bob, and you're probably right about that because nothing about waiting so long makes any sense. Did they ever discuss the Steve Wenta / Doug Fink shootout? I wonder if anyone ever did time for that. I have heard that was a great claim, too bad one of you guys didn't get the claim, looks like a big gold company scooped it up. I did notice other land in the area for sale, might be worth picking up for some nugget shooting. I might have to see if I can grab a small parcel of land out there.

My dad used to dry wash in Arizona in the late 70s and possibly 80s. I'm not sure where. He only took us panning, mostly in the narrows, since we were kids and girls. He told us a lot of stories, none as sinister as this, probably because we were girls. But, thank you, because your post brought back a lot of memories. My dad was diagnosed with ALS in 88 and died in 89

endless beauty and wonder! Sad history that happened on those properties. Looks like someone was squatting there some recent new stuff there. Sad that place is just sitting there, gathering dust and rotting slowly. And the photo album and letter...breaks my heart to see people waste memories like that and leave it there.

It's very interesting to say the least. Keep up the great work and keep doing videos like this. I love them! We need you guys safe so you can continue to make more of your awesome videos! Thank you keep up the great work! 🤗❤ P.S. I was gonna say that it looks like people have lived there more recently according to some of the things there and from the dates on letters and other items ,but this is still interesting to watch and know that all that took place there back in the 70's. Nice story guys! 😉👍❤

Great storytelling... we think of "wild west" stories being from long ago, but new stories happen everyday. You often speak of mining in the areas you explore, I often assume it's gold, silver, or copper that is being mined, is that right? Or are other materials being extracted? I'm from East Kentucky coal mining country and have a family history of mineral mining, so I'm curious...

I believe its mostly silver but theres still the Comstock lode of gold pulling pulled out it was mostly used at first to help the union war efforts during the civil war, but I believe theres other kinds of mines like uranium and others around this state

Cannabis does not cloud the mind, it clarifies it. That is, when it comes from reputable holistic growers or is grown holistically at home, [which is the best option] These days, with prohibition, it is impossible to do any accurate studies. We live in a world continuing its descent into chaos, and people usually need something to help ease the pain. Some smoke cigarettes, some drink alcohol, some use mogodon or Ritalin or valium. Some immerse their minds into pointless pursuits, some are shopping addicts, or compulsive gamblers. When the U.S. waged a very justifiable war against alcohol in 1920, more people drank than before the prohibition. Untold harm was done to people's health and thousands died, were made ill, or lost their jobs, homes and families through being imprisoned. During this time, gangsters grew wealthy, subverting the whole of our democratic system, effects which continue to this day. If people wish to take a much saner and safer alternative, what gives you the right to deny them. Most people have extremely biased views towards cannabis based on experiences that would have never arisen if not for prohibition. The truth is the first casualty of war, and those who refuse to understand history are doomed to relive it. At this time cannabis is being legalised all over the world because prohibition is very expensive, 30 trillion dollars so far in the U.S., and it hasn't worked, it is still destructive and hypocritically unjust, and is proving to be gravely more inimical to the social fabric than even the prohibition of alcohol, which was a miserable failure.
