Hi Kyle, I watched one of your videos where a chicken got eaten by a predator. I lost 11 of 16 hens one summer, they were 18 weeks old and almost ready to begin laying. I had a pair of fox. I ended up fencing in my backyard, roughly 1 1/2 to 2 acres, we haven't lost a bird in 5 years now. I used 2"x4" welded wire. Hope that helps.
Seeing your ducks makes me really miss mine! I butchered them all last fall to have more time for my human babies! They are such happy little buggers when you clean and fill their pool! Or when you give them fresh greens.
Colossians 2:13-15 King James Version 13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; 14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Kyle, I was thinking about your water transfer system. You could buy a large water barrel used or new and sit it on your trailer and then pump your water from the lake to it every 4-5 days. We use them around my area for farm spray or I have a friend that uses one to water his squash, pumpkins and he pulls it around with his quad. I know your idea works, but this might work really slick! Def cheaper then drilling a well when the lake is right there.
I do something similar. I have two IBC 275 gallon totes. I take one on the trailer and use a gas water pump to fill it from the lake. Takes 5 min. Then I transfer the water from it to the stationary one at my cabin. When transfering it to the stationary one, I pass the lake water thru filters.
Great Joe and Zach Survival comment, Northern Seclusion and NB88, Simple Living Alaska, and Just A Few Acres Farm channels are all great. Great vid Kyle
Love watching this Kyle and Cierra. Glad to see you put some fencing in, the gardens and raised beds are really coming along. No one seems to work for their goals harder than you two. It's beautiful where you live.
Love the woodpecker family! Must be fun watching them. Sorry you are still working out the water issues. You mentioned Alaska water stations, end it occurred to me that there are lots of campgrounds around you that have water stations for RV’s where you can get drinking water. Not sure that would work for you but it’s worth checking out. Having lived half of my life on the Navajo reservation where a lot of people have to haul water every week, I know how much work it is. But once you get into the groove of it and you have a large container expressly for hauling, it is not so bad.

Tell me you guys have been seeing 👀 the Northern Lights this last week? We've had A LOT of bears 🐻 in Stillwater, MN recently. We are along the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway, so it's like a highway 🛣 for bears 🐻. I don't know if I'll make it to the BWCA this Summer, so it's good to watch your boreal forest life...
It looks so peaceful where you are!! You've done such a good job with everything! It's a lot of work. People don't realize how much work it is, but, you do it so well! You guys are blessed. I wish I had known about stuff like this when I was younger. I'm getting older, but, wish I could have my own place with a cabin on it.
You may already know the YT “Bushradical”. He has several vids on sinking a hand pump well. The one titled “Hand Pump Well, everything you need to know” looks like a lot of good information to me. Even if you don’t have the right conditions, it’s very interesting! Great video, Kyle, your place is looking great!
Hey Kyle, I remember having chickens growing up and after cleaning the coop out I would sprinkle lime powder over the floor before adding new bedding. It helps with moisture and smell. I really enjoy your channel, keep it up!
I have a couple of mulberry trees across the street, on the parkway. I have been keeping an eye on them, and they are just about ready for harvesting. Gotta get to them before a neighbor a block away comes for them! We had about an acre of wild blackberry and raspberry patches on the farm where I grew up - I have memories of getting stuck with thorns and watching for rattlers.
Great video Kyle Thank you for sharing your day Love the chickens and ducks They are having a great day Loved the fire pit Sounds like you have great plans for the homestead Take care Kyle Cierra and Skeeter See you in next video
Beautiful video of two awesome souls, a great dog, happy chickens and ducks. Kyle, have you talked to any well drilling companies yet about water? We built in Georgia in 94 and drilled a 6 inch drilled well for water. 3500 Bucks for Hole With Casing To bedrock. Lucked out and actually get 2GPM artesian flow so we flow it to elevated 300 gallon tank. No power needed and we have great pressure.
You do a great job on your videos. Enjoy watching them. Your parents trained you well. You have a great work ethic. Let's hope for rain. Dry in north west Wisconsin.
Waiting on you to drive a sand point well. Here in northern Michigan I have driven dozens. Deepest is at my off grid cabin, 38 foot from surface to tip, hand pump works, just a bit more push needed than a 25 foot well. Our first pumpable water generally is 16 to 25 foot. I use a 2200 watt inverter generator to run a shallow well pump filling 300 gallon tank. I have a "T" well pipe that allows me to hand pump or use electric. Would your geology allow a driven well?
You are doing so good Kyle ! Enjoyed this video very much. We haven't had rain right here for 2 months. It's been near 100 for 2 weeks and no relief in sight
Is there a considerable amount of elevation climb from the lake to your house couldn't you dig a old fashioned well or do you have to get a permit for that as well another thought I had on water somewhere in some desert country they take tarps and string them out horizontally so any moisture in the air gets caught by the tarp and drips down over their planter beds that's why you always see trees growing underneath phone lines and power lines moisture from the lines is like a raindrops in that little radius area and the seed sprout and grow underneath the lines
You really need to clean out the water tray of your water jug the shavings in it absorbed their water & they need clean drinking water not drinking off that nasty would you keep drinking from a cup are glass without cleaning it? Something to think about! I Have chickens
Jesus Christ is the son of God who died and rose three days later and loves all of you. He died for everyone and wants you with Him, to know Him and live for His glory. Come be saved eternally and spend time with Him to know Him. Be saved, free, forgiven, healed, delivered, baptized, whole and let Him show you how He is everything you need. 🕊️💕Live righteous and Holy because He said to and paid for our way to live like Him. Ask anything in His name and the Father will do it amen hallelujah praise God thank you Jesus . 🙏 I lift up everyone's prayers, wants and needs to You Jesus, please pour out blessings. May Your favor, grace and mercy be upon the world. In Jesus name come help us all. You know our needs and everything else about each of us. In Jesus name amen thank you Jesus praise God 🙏 Jesus, Help people to be rooted and grounded in Your love and to obey Your truth. That they are living in the truth being taught by You. That they know Your voice and word. Knowing truth from errors, discernment. 💕 We are ambassadors of Christ. We represent God, when we are seen Jesus should be seen, His ways not ours. We should be living for and showing God, living for His glory. We are to be an example of Jesus for the world to see Him and want to know Him and know Him more. 🙏 🔥 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, if My people humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear them from heaven and heal their land. 🙏 💖 People need to turn from their wicked ways, Jesus paid for it. That's God stating it in that verse and there are more verses. People need to repent, to be cleansed by His blood and live Holy because He's Holy and righteous because He's righteous. Our God said to stop sinning in many many scriptures and He paid for everyone to be cleansed of sin (Isaiah 53), and to live how He said. He dwells in the Holy temple (your body) and said not to defile the temple. He said to defile the temple is death. He's always serious about everything He said to do. He's just as serious about what He said not to do. We live in obedience to His law, every word if it! He dwells within us all to be with and lead us in His ways. 💕🙏 Deuteronomy 28 there are blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience. The whole chapter, and verse 46 is one example of generational curses. These go into the following generations, the 3 and 4th. Our children pay the price for our sin. Stop sinning you are sending consequences to yourself and to your loved ones, children. By God's law you are. If you don't believe me ask Him, in Jesus name may you see and know the truth in it's fullness. Love your neighbor as you love yourself. He's worthy of everything He said and paid for, so I implore you to do as God said. Jesus said If you love me you will obey my commands. Love Him with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. 💖🔥🕊️🙏 Praise God 🙏🕊️💕🔥 Hallelujah Jesus🙏💖 InJesus powerful name🙏🔥🕊️ 💖
Kyle, I watched one of your videos from 2yrs ago and you mentioned RU-vidr " off grid bo" I subscribed to his channel. It seems like around the time of COVID his channel hasn't produced any vids. My question to you is do you have any ideas or info on his absence? Russ Pennsylvania USA
I love your set up. I enjoy watching you live the life I would have chosen if the opportunity had presented itself. You two are so good together. But I have a question.????? Why are you building a cabin that just fits one person - or two? You hadn't said before you applied for the permit but I had assumed it was going to be, maybe, twice that size. More like a family cabin. What is the point of investing all that energy in another of the same size as the other two, if it won't even hold visitors. Are you bored? The projects you just mentioned for the main cabin seem enough to "fill" your time. There must be a better reason than that. I don't mean to pry but was just wondering.
Hi Kyle I just started watching your videos and love them ,very relaxing . Do you know matthew Posa ? he has a you tube channel to .I think he's from around your area . Just asking . wondering
My husband and I enjoy your videos! We have a cabin in Northern Minnesota as well. By the way, the berries you were picking are dew berries, not raspberries and they are soooo delicious!
@@KYLESCABIN I don't know if you ever heard of TheNorthWoodsman1 here on RU-vid but he is worth watching. I think his cabin may not be too far from yours and I imagine this might be how you guys are in your 70's!
Dumb guy question, can't you get/dig a well for water? No idea how hard it is but it seems like if you are as close to water as you said that it wouldn't be too deep.
Also, for the raised beds maybe you can do the self watering I've seen folks do. Rocks in the bottom with some plastic netting for the soil above and a tube for watering. I can link a video where I saw someone make them
I really like your winter stuff ,below zero and all that ,but summer is so beautiful, green, lush ,it goes by so fast may to September, enjoy while it's warm my brother 👍👍👍😊
Hey, with that lake so lake so close, maybe you could dig a well to tap into that source. Water on property would be so killer. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing
Your work at the cabin is never done. The garden is looking good. Hope you get rain t fill your barrel. Your project for the loft is going to be interesting to see. Take care and be safe.(Judy NB)🌲🇨🇦
Kyle, have you seen Justin Rhodes videos on how he puts his chicken coops on wheels and moves them around. I notice his friends who are also off grid homesteaders are doing the same. The chickens are considered free rangers as a result. You are such a hard worker. Girlfriend is lucky to have landed you.
Are you still working through the day? So love the setup you have there. I have 100 acres in Eastern Ontario, Canada and would love to like there full time. I have a "camp" on the property - video on my channel if you search - it is more like a condo in the woods, but has solar, etc. I should do an update video some day to show the new things.
Kyle, have you ever thought of putting a roof over your front porch. That would be a great place to sit when it's super hot and sunny out. Just a thought. Take Care brother
Those would be dwarf raspberries. The wild strawberries and blueberries are out in full swing too! You probably have strawberries all over the place there if you look closely.
I person could use that trailer with as many barrels as you have and run it right up next to the lake. I've been doing the same here during the drought. Best wishes - new zealand.
do a compost pile that is halfway covered with a black tarp this winter - it should get hot through winter if you make it big enough - i would encourage you to remove more trees but also try to plant some trees and get some compost and or cow manure and lime and boost up the lawn - do a pollinator strip and then a forage strip and you can hunt easy - consider some rows of blackberries and or raspberries - if you plant now they will do better next year - think about some blueberries too - think about the firepit for sure but also a greenhouse - power may be the biggest limiting factor - double down on the solar
Why not put 2 4x4 plastic totes you see around strap them to the snowmachine trailer and fill them up with water.. the ol ford would pull that no problem
if you ever have any weed issue in your raised beds , cover the top with that old bedding as well, it will deter weed growth as it fertilizes too .. just thick enough no sun hits the soil so weedseed wont grow (youprolly already know that or someone may have made that comment)
this place looks awsome finally got some grass a real lawn my question is why the new build and what about thes two cabins the first on e the this one what are your plans for these two are you gonna sell them justa curious question no bashn ya here just curious
