My sister became vegetarian and then vegan a year later. She's been vegan for about 3-4 years now. The food she eats is AMAZING. Trust me, I loved steak. I loved chicken. But, in comparison to the food she cooks, you might as well be eating fast food. She, like most vegans, do it for mostly health reasons. Most of the meat that is "affordable" in stores is highly processed, their packed with hormones, steroids and fat. My family and I didn't really understand her in the beginning. We rolled our eyes at her, even scoffed at her. We heard what most people heard: You have to have meat for a complete and balanced diet. And what we learned was...you don't. You absolutely do not. She is the healthiest person I know. All it takes it knowing how to do it correctly (which isn't hard), and to just start. Now, I've been learning how to cook a vegan diet. Beans give you complete proteins. Nutritional Yeast tastes and smells like delicious cheese. Coconut milk is DELICIOUS in Mac n' cheese instead of regular dairy milk. I've been starting to just substitute ingredients first, and it's been great. (:

People go on a whole foods plant based diet for health reasons. You go vegan for the animals. So you can quit a whole foods diet but you never quit being vegan, it's a moral stance. It's extending a right to life to animals without exploitation.

Of late I've been thinking of going Vegan. Been researching and all the evidence suggests health risks in meat eating. I come from a family where even though we eat meat, it's still only 1-2 times a week unlike western cultures who eat meat regularly. And what really struck me was that my mom's side of the family are all meat eaters and have diabetes, high cholesterol, stress, high blood pressure, etc. My dad's side of the family are all completely vegetarian and no one has any diseases and are absolutely healthy. My grandfather is 93 with no ailments. It's been right in front of my eyes all these years and I had failed to realise it.

@muppetowner 8 лет назад
+Pradhyumna Gupta Could also be that your family just has some really good genes for growing old. Unprocessed meat on it's own usually isn't the culprit, but people who go/are vegan also tend to smoke less, drink less, and are more in shape. Those factors do play a major role

I agree that many factors affect our lives. I also believe that as long as we do not abuse what we eat drink consume we are capable of healthy and lengthy lives. sophia smith I get what you mean. I use healty lifestyle for living. Not only that I live a healty life, but I earn money living it. In other words what I eat is my number one priotiry. Eating clean is not a term. Eating organic, non procesed food is. Now what you eat depends on a sport you do. Not everyone requers the same amount of macronutrients. For example I eat 40% carbs 40% proteins and 20% fat. My carbs are mainly fruits when I need a quick energy boost and the rest is not white bread, but whole grains for example. My proteins are all top quialty. Poultry meat, fish, eggs, soy beans, any kind of beans, kale... And for fat I use fish oil also known as omega 3 there are more healty oils, but I hope you get the points. It's called eating healty, not eating clean.

It's also important to replace all the meat with protein rich food such as beans, lentils, peas and other nutrient rich foods such as greens (kale, swisschard, collard green, etc). I went Vegan similar to "raw till 4" from what I would have considered a healthier western diet around christmas time. I ate fish, lean meat, eggs and dairy as well as vegetables. And basically completely changed my diet over about 2 weeks to plant based foods only. I went from 100kg to 84KG in 4 months, without even really trying to lose weight. I am now between 82-83kg which is basically a perfect healthy weight for my height, Ideal BMI. I have more energy I'm starting to exercise more because I have more energy to burn. I don't feel like I've lost any strength at all. I would actually get puffed and light headed walking up hill. My legs would get tired after 20min of brisk walking. Now I actually have to run to get puffed and I never get tired from walking, can literally walk for hours and much faster than I used to. I sleep better! Sleep is so important that alone has changed my life! I don't get hungry like I used to, the food I eat is more satisfying. My Mind is functioning better, I think faster/sharper and my moods are more balanced, I'm more relaxed. I am starting to welcome back my 6 pack I have not seen in about 8 years. Just try and tell me the vegan diet doesn't work! Observations: It takes more than 30 days, results may vary and others wont turn around like I have. If you have been eating crap for years don't expect it to turn around in a week or two. Your body is an ecosystem and a big change like going vegan will require a lot of time for the ecosystem to adjust. This is a change that really is a long term investment. Don't weigh yourself every day and freakout if you gain a kilo, if your prone to freaking out about that sort of thing throw your scales away. Expect toilet visits to get interesting, go up and down but get better over time, just hang in there. Don't eat raw fruit and cooked vegetables at the same time doing so can complicate toilet visits. Make sure the fruit you eat is ripe! Cut salt right out, you don't need it and its bad for you full stop. After a while you simply wont miss it and wonder why you ever used it. Keep hydrated. Get educated, learning that eggs and dairy and basically poison for the human body really helped motivate me to change. From understanding comes motivation. A book called The China Study got me started.
@acbikeatgmaildotcom
@acbikeatgmaildotcom 9 лет назад
The china study book is a bit of a fraud, google Denise Minger, don't know why you think salt is 'bad for you full stop' it's an essential nutrient, that animals will risk their lives for. eggs and dairy don't seem likely to be a poison, unless you eat them as icecream, a recent epidemiological study correlated dairy with longer lifespan
@vulturnuszan
@vulturnuszan 9 лет назад
Simon Long Of course there are people that want to and are trying to discredit The China Study, If you read it you will understand why. The ideas in the book criticize and threaten billion dollar industries. You can get enough sodium without having to sprinkle every meal with it. I've never heard of a salt free vegan that had a sodium deficiency! Eggs and dairy are poison. Eggs are a fast tract to heart disease and stroke, Dairy is potentially a fast track to everything from obesity, and diabetes to cancer. OF course there is positive nutritional information around about Eggs and Dairy. Their are billions of dollars behind these products and they sponsor studies and sponsor health & diet regulators. It really comes down to of you want to believe what the dairy industries with billions of dollars at sake want you to know about Dairy or if you believe independent information from people with no other interest other than a passion for nutrition and finding the truth. That and the fact that people tend to find any excuse to keep eating how they have their whole life and ignore anything the suggests it's wrong or that they should change even if it could save their life or just improve the quality of their life. nutritionfacts.org great information about eggs, dairy and other foods.
@1too3fore
@1too3fore 9 лет назад
Simon Long Unfortunately, table salt usually has added compounds but even so, people tend to use way too much of it. Recently, I stopped using it and have introduced instead small bits of seaweed into my diet, primarily for the iodine. There is already plenty of sodium that occurs in the plants we eat. There is absolutely no need for table salt, it just forces your kidneys to work that much harder. As far as dairy, it's been scientifically proven to grow cancer cells. But, hey, go on believing the propaganda machine funded by the dairy industry. But don't forget that many of the industry watch dog agencies now allow members of industry to sit on their boards and push their agendas on the public. They fund all kinds of biased studies in their favor and not in your health's favor.
@TheRealAxelFury
@TheRealAxelFury 9 лет назад
vulturnuszan what I believe is a common mistake is that people eat wrongly and they get problems, because nobody, unless you are a nutritionist, or an athlete, has a real cultureon the subject food. Then they take a radical decision, and jump on the vegan wagon, and since they eat way less calories, they drop weight and say "this is the right thing to do, look at what this did for me". If they were not overeating in the first place, they would not be like they were. Plus there are plenty of people that feel that there is this giant conspiracy of industries to sell their food, so they push it, and there a re a lot of people with an agenda of pushing it. but is really simple: our body evolved to to eat both vegetables and animals, point, if not, we would not have even possibility to digest a particular food. anyone has the right to adopt any lifestyle he/she wants, until he/she, damages the other person. One must always understand the difference between use and abuse, before pointing fingers to something and label it as "dangerous". we can even die for abusing water: if we drink too much we die, but you cannot say thaty water is bad right? it is bad if you drink too much,of it, not if you drink, same goes vith veggies and meats.

Frank Duse Yeah, that's all well and good, the whole moderation thing but science says otherwise. Being vegan doesn't necessarily have ANYTHING to do with the moral and ethical stance of not wanting to kill and enslave animals. I am continuously baffled by the lack of vegans who don't give a fuck about animals, strangely they all seem to care for animals uniformly. They shouldn't have to care about animals to be vegan! The truth is; there are so many different reasons for why you would want to become a vegan - all of which have nothing to do with the animals at all! Let me list just a few: 1. Health - Eliminate chances of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, strokes, heart disease and lower chances of many types of cancer like colon cancer and breast cancer etc. Saturated fats and cholesterol is ONLY found in animal products. Improve your cardiovascular ability and feel more alive and energized because your stomach won't have to spend so much energy trying to digest all of that acidic meat. And poop better too, don't spend so much time squeezing one out on the toilet. 2. Appearance - You will loose excess fat for sure (Unless you just drink soda and eat potato chips since that's technically vegan), your skin will start look to better and more clear, acne will most likely disappear or at least diminish a lot. 3. The environment - The live stock industry is responsible for more greenhouse gasses being released into the atmosphere than all forms of transportation combined. And forests are being chopped down to make room for the cattle so that we can kill them and eat them later. 4. You are against unnecessary starvation among humans - All of the grains used to feed livestock is taken from poor places like in Africa where the farmers are forced to sell their grains to western/richer countries so that we can have a juicy steak, meanwhile those farmers and their children starve to death. So even if you honestly don't give a flying fuck about the fact that more than 150 billion animals are slaughtered unnecessarily for human consumption every year and you don't consider animals to have any worth and you don't think twice about paying someone to kill them for you to eat, there are still many reasons for why you would want to become vegan. For your health, for your looks and for the planet.

I'm in my early 60's. For moral reasons I became a vegetarian in the mid 90's. I'm ashamed that it took me so long but I finally became a vegan 6 years ago again for moral reasons. When I first became a vegetarian, I wondered what effect this would have on my health because of the misinformation of the nutritional needs to live a healthy life. I had family and friends telling me I would get weak and sick. I was overweight and ended up losing weight. I felt better and had more energy. Fast forward to 6 years ago and I wondered again if the lack of dairy in my diet would possibly affect me in a negative way. I had noticed some mild arthritis set in in my 50's. I didn't expect this but about 4 months after becoming a vegan the arthritis completely went away and at my last yearly physical my doctor looked at my blood work results and just said "whatever your doing just keep doing it".

The predators, particularly Lions are called the "kings of the Nature". Yet, if you look at the wild live in Africa, you'll see how shamefully they run away from the Elephans, Girafas, Hyppos and even from Buffalos. These are herbivorous rather than predators who are really the mountains of muscles.

Certain of my replies to a long discussion seem to get deleted, likely by the thread starter, so I'll state my case here: Someone ranted at me, "it's a testimony for MEAT!" (referring to Josh Knox's being raised on meat as opposed to his new vegan diet) referring to his muscularity. So I linked vegetarian & vegan (Gracie Gold) Olympic athletes and the commenter dismissed it because most may eat dairy & eggs. But I thought "MEAT" was required for athletic strength, in his view. GreatVeganAthletes is another site showing pages of fantastic athletes, which will likely also be dismissed for a variety of invented reasons by angry meat advocates. Oh well... I was told to earn respect if I want it, from a manipulative, fuming misogynist who seems to believe he's above getting old or that it's only a crime for women. (Bad or absent mother, turned him against females?) "Respect" from such a person is severe disrespect. So I'll decline that offer to earn it from him. I get respect from good people whom I respect. There, I feel better now :)

yeah its an interesting dilemma. usually people who are into bodybuilding are very body-proud and EXTREMELY image-conscious. the reason they get into bodybuilding in the first place is not because they are health conscious, but because they simply want to have big muscles (regardless of how strong they actually are, interestingly actual strength seems to be completely secondary)- and very often they could not care less how they get them (look at the popularity of steroids). that weight drop he talked about when going to a vegan diet will certainly be enough to turn off most if not all of the ego-driven male gym-goers that i have ever met.
@isurus986

cufflink44 It isn't impossible but it is much harder. If you eat a cup of lentils you may get 15 grams of bio-available protein versus a serving of chicken with about 35-40 grams of bio-available protein (both dependent upon how it is cooked). This means to get 0.8 grams per pound of weight you will have to consume more food as a vegan to get the protein (Ie: 160 g protein for 200 pound person roughly). It takes more food combining to get proper amino acids and high quality supplements. If you think about it you would have to eat 10 cups of lentils or kidney beans a day for that protein versus 4-5 servings of chicken (not well balanced but a decent analogy). A source if you are interested veganbodybuilding.com One issue I have with the supplements is if I have a Vega Sport Performance at 25 grams of protein then if I have 2 a day it is 50 grams but there are only 23 servings in the container. So you get about 11 days of protein for $45 so about $100 a month if you do one scoop on your off day. However, in the whey supplements you get 40 servings or more and about 20-30 grams on average of whey isolate for post workout. You can make one scoop post workout last a bit over a month and one scoop on off days. More than likely your food sources will be higher in protein if you do whey (also there is correlation though to kidney stress and high protein). Point is that is is easier and cheaper to hit that 160 gram of protein mark. To live that same person only needs about 65 grams a day but to build muscle you require more. Neither of these scenarios considered pre-workout supplements and BCAs which add another $80 a month roughly...but for a vegan it adds $100-$120 a month because the pre-workout supplements are in smaller servings per container typically. But if you are a vegan and don't mind $200 a month in supplements for vegan supplements and enjoy cooking then you can easily achieve a 16-18 inch arm naturally. With a lot of work you might get to 20 inches. I never seen a vegan yet with over 20 inch arms that was a vegan all the way. I am a vegan and I am in the 16-18 inch range but looking to get to 20 since I just recovered from a back injury and just hit the gym again 2 months ago from a 1 year break with nothing but interval cardio training and light resistant training. Even with my injury I can out lift many of my meat eating friends. Mind have you though I was a pescatarian before I had my back injury and was at 20 inch arms. I couldn't walk for 6 months and lost over 40 pounds of muscle in the year. I did the interval training for about a year but never picked up weights until 2 months ago but now I am at the same weight on lifting (bench press, barbell curl, etc) as I used to be when I ate fish but the gains are not like they use to be now that I am vegan. However, even though I am smaller now I do feel healthier.

Veganism is about making a choice every minute of every day to preserve as much life as possible. The philosophy of Veganism is best stated "Cause the least amount of harm to any living thing possible, without allowing yourself to be harmed." No human can continue to live without some living things dying, but the point is to MINIMIZE the harm in any way you can. That is what is called "widening your circle of compassion."

Using the historical record of human consumption of animals in order to emphasize the importance of animal fats or proteins in current and future human diet is erroneous for several reasons. Our ancestors did not live as long as we do so many never got to see the effects of long-term animal consumption on the body. They may have also faced situations where survival necessitated animal consumption or they would have faced starvation. May God bless our ancestors for without them we would not be. Going forward, we will witness the next major step in the evolution of our planet when humans begin to treat animals with more compassion.

Processed foods, typical supermarket fare, sugar in everything is causing artery damage leading to heart disease. Quit blaming cholesterol. Also all the sugars and crap induce inflammation of the arteries and cause the creation of SMALL particle LDL which is what is building up in the potholes (made by sugar) on peoples arteries. Fat and cholesterol are pretty innocuous. Avoid a high sugar/processed diet. THAT's the take-a-way.

Carl Lewis: legendary, but when he was active and built his name he was not even vegetarian, no contest. So far two athletes who are not and never were top level being Vegan, and one that was not vegan when he was at the top. Mac Danzig was top level before he retired, but not being Vegan. The only top level that remained vegan during his top level period I see in the next pages, is Vlad Ixel. So far being vegan gave no real edge if that was the purpose, in fact if there was not "something else"involved in the training routine" results would have been even less that decent.

Well, you know what boys are like. It was probably a dare. But also, I firmly believe that our food is getting much less nutritious as our farms focus on volume, aesthetic beauty and 'McDonaldified' bland flavour over taste and (I believe therefore) nutrition, So maybe a vegan diet is starting to make more sense these days...

Just leave out the "meat" (and all animal products) and we're fine with all the rest. "Health conscious" includes better spiritual (and/or moral/ethical) health. Slaughterhouses have a place in that? No.

When I learned that 50% of the U.S water supply and 80% of our agricultural land is used for livestock, either pastures or crop fields for their feed, I saw how cutting back on dairy, meat and eggs could make a difference. If our overall animal based protein consumption decreased we could have more crop land to grow food for humans around the world who otherwise don't have the capacity to feed themselves.

Judging a foods benefit purely by categorising whether its a plant based or animal based food is insane. Is a bowl of sugar somehow more nutritious than a bowl of grass fed liver? Is pasta somehow good yet butter bad for a t2 diabetic? Some people can live quite well on a vegan diet, some get unwell. Good on the ones that can make it work for themselves. Personal attacks on anyone who doesn't have dogmatic vegan views isn't doing anyone any favours. Perhaps more coconut oil needed?

"Is a bowl of sugar somehow more nutritious than a bowl of grass fed liver? Is pasta somehow good yet butter bad for a t2 diabetic?" YES!!!!! You haven't learned this yet??? It's like saying "some people can live well on a 3 dishes of feces per day, and some people need to eat actual food." It's not true. Animal proteins are TOXIC. If something is poisoning you, you don't keep eating it! What don't you understand? Besides, 1. nobody eats an entire bowl of sugar. And nobody said that consuming that much sugar is GOOD for you. But it's better than eating liver, PERIOD. 2. Diabetes is CURED by going Vegan. CURED. Not "remission", or "mitigated" or whatever term you want to call it when something is slightly better. CURED. "Some people can live quite well on a vegan diet, some get unwell" This is uninformed crap, perpetuated by people who want to justify continuing an unbelievably destructive and self-destructive activity solely because of the physical pleasure it gives them. The truth is that people who stop eating some items and don't know how to cover all their nutritional bases end up eating a ton of processed garbage and get sick. THAT'S NOT VEGANISM. Real Vegans eat a ton of healthy food and don't get sick from it. If they end up deficient in ANYTHING they just add that thing to their diet. This is all accomplished without resorting to animal substances. This is because when people are interested in Veganism for the right reasons, they take the time to study what they need from their food and why. Learn actual science to find out why the human body is NOT that of an omnivore and why animal proteins, fat and cholesterol is toxic to the human body. You can do this by studying (I would suggest an unbiased site like Wikipedia if you don't have access to medical studies and books) terms like herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, frugivore, proteins, amino acids, cholesterol, phytosterols, ptyalin, lyososmes, B12, Uricase, SCFAs, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, obesity, osteoporosis, Crohn's disease, and any info here (especially "Section 2:): facebook.com/squeezeplay/posts/10201294713023049

Colin Wright Whole food diets cure people of disease all the time, both PB and omni. Quit the cherry-picked observations. No, sugar is not more nutritious than liver. And yes, butter is better than pasta for a Type II diabetic. These facts are quantifiable, nutrition content is quantifiable. Animal protein is NOT toxic... ~sigh~ It's no wonder people hate us so much. Veganism is an entire ideology and one can easily be a junk-food vegan as long as you avoid animal foods. This doesn't make veganism healthy. You don't need special term for it. A vegetarian eats only plants. That's pretty straight-forward. That doesn't necessarily equal good health.
@Vegan_Truth
@Vegan_Truth 10 лет назад
Your name is "Primal Vegan" but why did you use that name? Do you believe that Veganism is somehow a fad or something you need to "follow" for health reasons? I really am wondering. You don't know anything about bio-chemistry, obviously, judging even by something as simple as the fact that you don't know that it's not "animal protein." It's "proteinS" with an s on the end. Animal proteins are absolutely toxic. No amount of you sighing is going to change that scientific fact. Do some research and learn what the anatomical differences between an herbivore, a carnivore, an omnivore, and a human being is. "Primal Vegan" MY ASS.
@Vegan_Truth
@Vegan_Truth 10 лет назад
I never mentioned grammar. The fact is, if you don't know that it's proteinS with an s on the end, you have no understanding of bio-chemistry and therefore, your opinion on that subject is irrelevant. Study some actual science and then we'll talk.

Well, Wobbler. I would have to disagree that harsher climate humans represent how most humans throughout history have lived. Most individuals throughout the paleolithic lived in Refugium regions, areas of temperate climate far away from the Cold. For example, Central Spain and southern France was a lusher area and generally a temperate forested area. Likewise, the Middle east during this time was warm, wet and lush. Even today, the majority of humanity lives in warm areas. The same areas where plant foods would generally be plentiful.
@blujay-r1r
@blujay-r1r 10 лет назад
Likewise, we spent the majority of our evolution in Africa. We are all fundamentally african in origin and therefore have a warm weather heritage. What foods are common in Africa? modern hunter gatherers and societies in Africa still survive off A lot of Tubers, Wild grains (When crops fail ,they are still widely used) Vegetables, fruits, and game.
@wobbler1972
@wobbler1972 10 лет назад
joseph jacovino Hi Joseph, the harsher climate thing was your idea but you just contradicted it. My point was that before agriculture, people relied on animal fats and some protein for fuel as natural carbohydrates were not in abundance apart from some very short seasonal periods. The carbs that were available would have been treasured because they would not have been available all year round. If humans had to rely solely on carbohydrates from plants we would all be dead without food for a couple of days. I liked how you emphasised Vegetables and Wild grains etc, but game? how about Animal Flesh. What was your point again?
@blujay-r1r
@blujay-r1r 10 лет назад
Again, i disagree here. I'm arguing that Carbs were a reliable source of energy in many climates. Granted they may not have been Cereal grains, but many wild foods are really exciting multi use foods, such as Sea kale. The key, in my opinion is that these groups did not rely on any one food, and would often move from resource to resource. Certain foods, such as Wild wheat, Acorns, Pulses seemed to be extremely reliable in the historical record, and started to be stockpiled in Paleolithic "Silos" in these early camp sites in the Middle east. One in theory is actually able to gather enough wild wheat by hand in several weeks to feed a family for a year, and this is today.
@wobbler1972
@wobbler1972 10 лет назад
I can't disagree that people have always found nutrition in many varied forms but this does nothing to establish that these people that collected Acorns would have avoided animal products if presented with the opportunity. There is valuable nutrition in some animal products and to deny this is will full ignorance. But we are still free to choose what we eat, so I wish you well in whatever your choices are.
@blujay-r1r
@blujay-r1r 10 лет назад
Yeah, i agree. Meat was Definitely on the menu, and one cannot contest this. I suppose i big beef with some Paleo authors is their over emphasis on meat consumption. Certainly some groups ate more meat than others. Meat would provide something that is generally rare in plants- heavy stores of fat. In a struggle for survival i feel our ancestors wouldn't have minded getting a little extra body fat.

We're even because you baffle me; I wonder which branch of animal ag is your vested interest. Call me overly skeptical, but your claims of weakness from eating plant foods just don't ring true. There are plenty of calorie dense, protein rich non-animal foods like bananas and walnuts. Vegans can be extremely fit and strong if they work at it, same as anyone else, better in fact because their systems are free of dead, abused, slaughtered, innocents, thereby much cleaner in body and spirit.
@Repulver
@Repulver 10 лет назад
***** well, i can understand the vegan mindset, trying to be spiritually clean and innocent. That was appealing to me too. Who doesn't want to be innocent right. That's why i tried it in the first place. And after it didn't work out the first time, i tried it again with the same results. So far my personal experience. I've been experimenting with nutrition for the last 7 years. I tried low carb high protein low fat, high carb high protein low fat, high carb low protein low fat. Transitionphase is always great but none of these were sustainable. Now i am on the ketogenic diet, the one diet i've never tried before because it did not appeal to me and it's said that it's unhealthy. But i've never felt so good for the past 10 years. Maybe you all got it wrong.

Very good point about the starches. They are conveniently stored until we need to process them for consumption. Probably the main reason that starchy carbs have such a wide use in civilisations that could allow people to specialise in their profession without worrying about collecting food. The Harsher the climate, the less carbs available because they just don't yield well unless the seasons are favourable. So I can't say that I would agree with your second point. cheers

Okay, so the guy stopped eating fatty meat and his cholesterol went down. No surprise there. I doubt this guy was ever a competitive bodybuilder, because no bodybuilder is going to eat fatty meats. Had he stuck to a real bodybuilding diet of lean meat chicken breast, 95/5% lean ground turkey/beef, and lean fish he would have seen the same drop in his numbers (weight loss and cholesterol).

There is NO such thing as low or no cholesterol meat !!! Lean meat might be low in fat, but a small 3 oz. serving of skinless roasted chicken contains between 70 mg and 80 mg of dietary cholesterol. That is around 25-28% of a daily limit. Competitive bodybuilders take steroids, it ain't the 6 piece and fish making them big.

Most doctors today are telling their patients to reduce their intake of animal products & increase their intake of plant foods. The British Medical Association was first to shed light on the many benefits of a vegetarian diet in a 1986 report. Based on a large volume of research, it concluded that vegetarians not only tend to have lower cholesterol, but also significantly reduced instances of coronary heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, cancers, gall stones & large intestine disorders.

The problem lies with the vague terminology of the word "complete" because it simply states - containing all the required amino acids. Some plant protein sources like soy beans while stated as complete are underrepresented in specific ess. amino acids. So in a practical sense they are not complete if they can't provide enough for (re)construction. Yes it's possible to get enough of all essential amino acids trough plant based food alone trough combining, but it requires some unterstanding/work.
