Hello my friends 👋🏼
In this video I take advantage of the nice weather and ride Ernie my Royal Enfield Classic 500 across Dartmoor to Moretonhampstead Motor Museum.
I was greeted by Frank as he happened to be outside on my arrival. There’s so many wonderful cars and bikes on display, but one in particular that I was interested in seeing.
The first I heard of Jacqui Furneaux was a few years ago now when Janner Fox of Royal Enfielder's Ireland told me about her. Since then I have read her book ‘Hit The Road Jac’ and had the privilege of being on a livestream hosted by Exeter Rider in which Jacqui was present. An amazing lady who travelled the world on a Royal Enfield Bullet 500. You can’t do something like that and come home without a story to tell. And tells it well she does!
I expect it sounds silly but I was slightly emotional seeing the bike with my own eyes. I could imagine her unstrapping the luggage in order to pick the bike up for the umpteenth time. I could also imagine how it felt to ride through some of the fascinating places that were so well described in her book.

Lovely video, when Jcqui came to see us in Tralee, I threw a leg over the beautiful bike, it did get dinosaured as did your bike. Jcqui is such a lovely lady and total sweetheart, enchanting is the word to describe her. 😍😍

You started out with a view without a gateway. Beautiful! I was just in a Royal Enfield showroom and fell in love with a blue & white Super Meteor 650. I went in for new rear brake pads, 43,000 miles. $5,000 with my trade-in and I would have gone out with that Super Meteor if it was belt drive. 27,000mi/43,000km now on my belt drive conversion without having to stop to clean, lube, and adjust a chain. Thanks for the snippet. Nice outro.

Dartmoor is looking at it's best in the sunshine Jeff but from the looks of the contrail lattice pie sky the rain won't be far away. It's odd that isn't it how in nearly every MotoVlog the plane trails are evident, even when we're hundreds of miles from an airport. What a marvellous museum that is and much bigger inside than its exterior would suggest. Some real classic bikes and cars, some before my time but many brought back memories. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us and to the owner and Frank for accommodating the making of the video.

@@Saddlebags73 Also meant to compliment you on your Royal Enfield 500. Beautiful machine. I happen to own a 2020 red frame Trials 500 which I absolutely love. Takes me back to another era of bike riding. I have ridden here in USA for 56 yrs on many machines. Cheers.

Ey up Wow, what a place, I could spend days in there. A good few of those I’ve either owned, ridden in or worked on And the annoying thing is, me and some friends rode right by the Museum last September and didn’t know it was there. It’s a bit like Sammy Miller’s place, I could go back and back and still see something new - brilliant 👍

Woo a Suzuki Bandit! What an amazing collection and a wonderful owner. I had a Mk2 Escort in the 80s. That place is huge, so many bikes upstairs. They used to build those Reliant Bond Bugs down the road from us in Tamworth That Enfield has so much history attached. Some Lady. Looking forward to seeing those views again. That looks a great place to explore, I love browsing old cars and bikes. The worrying thing though I remember some of them when they we new and now they're in a museum! There was another pioneering exploring lady called Elspeth Beard, who rode an old BMW R60 around the world. I have read her book, which is a great read.

I bought Jacqui's book after you recommended it, then met her for a chat at the Classic Bike Show at Shepton Mallet. I have just finished the book and I have to say it is one of the most interesting travel books I have read, and I've read a LOT of motorcycle travel books. I heard the other day that Jac's bike is now at Mortonhampstead, just the excuse I need for a ride over Exmoor and Dartmoor... if an excuse is ever needed.

Been past there 100's of times but usually it is shut midweek when I am there. Must try to have a look soon. A recent video of yours prompted me and a mate to visit Altarnun for the first time today to see the church. It certainly a magnificent structure and the village is lovely. Brilliant Bullet. Love the complete set of chrome rear mudguard brackets, pannier racks, rear carrier, and lifting handles. Mine are all black, wish I could get them chromed. I wonder how many miles on it.

I can't believe you'd never been to that museum! I went there with my wife and daughter when we attended the very first Saddlebags Social Ride (we ought to invent a shorter name for that) I might have to go back to see Jacquie's bike Moretonhampstead could also use a shorter nickname 😂 there's a Moreton near me in Essex and a Hampstead in London... Truth is I didn’t expect that there would be a great deal to see on n the museum. It looks small from the road. How wrong I was. Great job, I have been meaning to go there for too long, I didn't know it was that big. My first car was a Talbot Solara 1.6LE, believe it or not, probably the quickest car I had and would often give Golf GTIs a run for there money at the lights. Brill to see Jaquires bike. A wonderful place and a very kind man! Enjoyed. Would pick the gangster Rolls from 1946. :) There were also some classics among bikes. Cool. Great little segment tour of the museum!Great views on the way there!2:03 About the ht lead: was the insulation damaged, and replacing the lead was sufficient, or did you choose another ”route” for the new cable, than the original?

Thank you Johan, great to get out con the bike and a very interesting museum. The ht lead appears to be in good condition but was up against the frame under the fuel tank. Simply rerouting cured the problem 👍🏼
