I was always finding a method to link up a PTT button for zello in my car when I drive. This seem to be the best cheap method I can come up with at the mean time.
It doesn't work when the phone is locked, so it's kinda useless (ie. you can't put your phone in your pocket and use a bluetooth headset for Zello). Reason for this is that this button emulates a keyboard, which cannot be used while the screen is off. Same thing happens when you try to use a keyboard/keypad with an OTG cable. Tested with Android.
I have a few of these inexpensive small bluetooth speakers. One in particular also has a mic. It has a volume up and down on the bluetooth speaker and I configured zello for PTT using the VOL UP button. I am trying to figure out how I can use the built in mic for a complete Bluetooth Speaker mic with PTT. The one I have sells for less than $10, good speaker audio and the PTT using the VOL UP button works great. I just can't figure out how to utilize the built in MIC as the zello mic and not the mic in the cell phone. Any mods for this would be appreciated. Thanks, Ken
How do wired or Bluetooth PTT mics work? I have several wired PTT speaker mics from Ham Radio walkie talkies and was wondering if I could adapt it to a cell phone for zellow or other similar network radio apps. Thanks,
etniesbgs Hi, this is an old video. Im not sure if thei method work for other apps as I have not tried it. Now Zello can work straight from thr bluetooth earpiece.
Very informative video, but if I could offer a little tip for future videos like it.. When you're referencing a product, service, website, app, etc in your video.. PLEASE post links to each in the description. At the very least, include the brand name and model number. I'm hearing impaired in both ears, so sometimes with videos like yours where the audio / speech is very soft, mumbled, or hard to understand, it becomes torture to see an awesome product or service being used, but have NO way to know what it's called, or where to find it. :-( When I come across this (which is VERY frequently on RU-vid) it's very frustrating because I feel like I'm helpless unless I can find someone to listen to the video for me, and tell me the info. Thanks again. That said.. Can you please tell me the brand name and model name of the button, and the app you used? (I saw you used Zello, but the app you set the button up with) It would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Search for "Bluetooth wireless shutter remote control" in Amazon and you should find it. There's plenty under different brands but they look the exact same.
zrzzt Good question, I am not sure. I have never tried with my phone locked with a pin or password. It does seem to work from a non password lock screen.
Hi, this video is old. I appologise aa i did not try while its locked. Currently zello support bluetooth alot better. i can ptt with the current bluetooth you see in the video, even when screen is locked.
Ok thanx! ) BTW, which button do you use for zello? As far as I know, it connects as a bt keydoard. Big button works as a volume up button and the smaller one works as a carriage return (or ENTER) button - you can see that by typing a new sms and clicking small button will take you to the new line. So, which one of them you are using for zello? Also do you use any additional software like QuickClick or you connected it to zello directly? Also I read some comments that sometimes this device conflicts with on-screen keyboard - have you experienced any glitches like that? Maybe there some other drawbacks? Thank you!! :)
This is the button I got: www.pryme.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2454 I didn't use any other software like Quick Click (What does that do?). Basically the way it works is that you have to have Zello on in the background and when you press the button it's equivalent of pressing the button on the Zello app to talk. And I haven't had any issues with it conflicting with the on sceen keyboard.
