i live in alaska...juneau & kodiak...i had a friend in the freight business - she said yeah it costs money to get stuff up here BUT NOT THAT MUCH MONEY!!! Pure greed because they know we have NO CHOICE. it's the one thing that i hate about this state is the blatant greed...same with rental prices.

Back in the seventies, I friend of mine went to work on the Alaska pipeline. When he finally came back home he was telling us stories of what they were paying for groceries up there that just seemed unbelievable. @@uniquepurpose03 Places super far up north have to have goods shipped exclusively by plane. That means shipping is more expensive. Thus prices for the goods are going to be adjusted to match.

@iDntFkNeeDis 3 месяца назад
@@jarofpickles4057Same products are imported to Saudi Arabia are not priced like this. Jif peanut butter, Smuckers jelly, and Ocean Spray each are 6$ max. In remote places like gas stations in deserts prices are the same as the city, the gas and diesel are higher by cents or dimes and not as high as Alaska 7.7$ per gallon for diesel compared to average prices in other states. I think this increase has something to do with the difficulties and local fees to transfer the goods on the road, because the prices vary in Alaska.

I was so excited to see you heading to Nuiqsut. We (teachers) loved in Nuiqsut in the early 70’s. There were no roads or running water or regular flights (except for the mail plane). The school was two prefab double wide Aatco-type trailers (one for elementary, one for secondary). It was so fun to see Nuiqsut now! WOW! Thank you for sharing.😊
