Colette O'Neill is an author and founder of The Bealtaine Project, in the west of Ireland. What has been accomplished at Bealtaine Cottage, by one woman, defies all EU and government plans to create ecological chaos and destruction in this sacred land. Living at Bealtaine Cottage, once a forlorn, abandoned home set in some of the poorest land in Ireland. Land restoration through planting has been a work of faith and hope and Colette weaves this passion for the Great Mother into all of her work, writing about, photographing and filming Mother Earth in all her seasonal joy and beauty. Bealtaine Cottage now shines as a beacon of hope, that all is not lost and we can bring forth Eden, even in the midst of so much destruction.

Colette, You've been one of my sources of inspiration. Last month, at 62, I sold my home in the city and purchased a piece of land in the country with a modest home in need of love sitting on it. My first order of business is trees. This is a dry and some would say harsh climate in a small farming community. I have 4 plum trees coming next week and have 15 Thuja pines (waiting patiently in locally made from recycled material planter boxes) that will live their lives here here as a wind break which will anchor a micro climate. Today I walked out back in my stocking feet to talk to the man who was marking my sewer line. My feet were immediately and painfully covered in burrs. A kind soul handed me my slippers and pulled the stockings off my feet. Before my friend could put them in the garbage, I used the stockings as flags marking the place where the pipes run to the back of the property. I thought of you and wondered about your early days. Then, feeling of such peace and contentment came over me...because I knew that this harsh landscape is destined to become an oasis...one tree, one root, one bulb, one seed at a time.

Dear Colette I hear a woman of my own thinking and one who is enormously blessed and happy.I too have sought a simple close to the earth life amidst the flow of life in the city. I own a regular city deep lot and have turned it to a woodland and country cottage .It has taken me 42 years .When we bought it in the seventies it was a bungalow and very cookie cutter landscape. It is now a fairytale illustration that I am extremely comfortable in and it’s my own creation.Everything is original all woodwork gorgeous and old fashioned cupboards .It was only owned previous to us by one other family who had it built and lived here from the twenties to the seventies.It will be 100 years old in 2024. I am of Irish descent so I recognize my fancy for a lot of my choices and styles and ways with trees schrubs and flowers.I thoroughly enjoy ur videos and impartations that u give and agree totally about Mother Earth and respect for the Divine in her and of her.And all of the creatures and inhabitants contained in her.Thank You for sharing your beautiful and wonderful life at Bealtine Cottage .🌹♥️

Hullo Colette. Blessings to you too. Here I am sitting in Delhi listening to you reading from your book and picturing bealtine cottage as best as I can. Thank you for that..Loved it! Here we live in a flat and I have a little pomegranate tree on my balcony with a flower slowly turning into fruit. ...i don't know much about these things, but am loving watching this happen...And I listen to your stories.....Thank you ...The stories come all the way from Ireland and find ripples in far off places.. that's just lovely..... Hi Collette, what a gift you reading a chapter from your book. I home school and do most of the reading so that was so nice I was laying in bed eyes shut imaging life there in your early days. Please consider audio books I would surely buy. Have a wonderful weekend.

The land before her lay bare and desolate. Even the wind did not visit the rushes or stir the brambles. All about there was sadness and sorrow. With a twinkle in her eye and a bounce in her step, she waved her hands across the earth. Here and there seeds flew. Around and around like a whirling dervish. Tiny leaves sprung up from the ground and stretched as far as their bodies could go. "The sun! The sun!" they sang in unison and voiced their joy as loud as a choir. She was not finished -- her deed of planting -- for much of the earth still lie naked. Sticks were placed like candles on a cake and burned with the fire of life. They were blessed and they grew and were never oppressed. The Eden that she had nurtured broke free from containment and like a flood swelled over everything. The wind returned to whisper to the trees and birds alighted along with the bees. Frogs and mice prepared banquets and feasts with the faeries and elves and other beasts. What strength and power she possessed to bring life and love to a land bereft! The moral of this story or a lesson to be learned? Plant, plant, plant and let not our Mother be spurned.

This is lovely! When I get the funds I'm going to buy this book, your life is so inspiring! I love the simple life and I have always been a lover of nature. I grew up on a small farm in Western Pennslyvania and although I no longer live on that land I now live with my in-laws in New Jersey but we have beautiful woods behind our home and I just love all of the birds and plants! I highly recommend all three books , they are brilliant , but I must have read A Cottage and Three Acres at least six times . This is the funny thing , last night my friend popped down from up the lane and we got talking about you , watched some of your videos by which time she was hooked and went home with my Cottage and Three Acres to start reading last night . I love Jack 💖💖💖 I know he's no longer on this level but I feel such genuine love for him whenever his dear little face pops up. I have a female version of Jack called Moon. She's a rescue from Romania. I saw her photo online and fell madly in love. So she was my 50th birthday present to myself 😁 and wow ... best money I've ever spent in my life! Oooh. Such a lovely sentiment and the atmosphere that you have around you, and that you create... incredibly peaceful and content. When you look back, is it any wonder that you have accomplished so much. I think for me, your ability to create an Eden from a plot of land that others would have not even attempted.. speaks volumes. I loved A Cottage and Three Acres. It is a lovely narrative of the first decade+ of Bealtaine Cottage; for me, evoking a bit of Blake and a lot of the American poetess, Emily Dickinson (“Much Madness Divinest Sense to the Discerning Eye!”). I will return to it frequently as it is also a reference for those of us who are interested in “planting as if our lives depended on it”! PS: Love your boots! Unfortunately I have a boot “thing” and way too many boots!

Oh that looks so cosy and inviting Colette...I just want to say that you have the most soothing, melodic, calming voice...You should really think of doing some meditations on utube for relaxing, sleeping etc..They would be absolutely amazing and might bring in some more revenue for your divine Bealtaine Cottage....Blessings from Kildare...😇

I have all your books now, and the map! and I recommend anyone who hasn't got "A Cottage and Three Acres" to get it as soon as possible. when i had the great dane, it would start with a head then a couple of paws, and slowly but surely, the whole body, including tail, and before you could say whiskers, i would be squashed at the end, with a big heavy head, resting on my lap as a pillow, and he would look at me in disgust, when i had to move and disturb his nap, and his tail, could clear the coffee table with ease, when he wagged it, ahh grand days

I dont know what state or country ur in....but silver poplar will "propagate" by cutting off a twig and pushing down about 8-10" in soil...keep moist.....🖐🏻☺️
