Great topic to address! I was surprised to see such negativity and discouragement in the foster care community. I’ve personally experienced it on SM. I’ve seen foster parents cannibalize others on the support pages because they dare to ask certain questions or (gasp) hold differing opinions. If I have a question, you can bet your a$$ in not posting in one of those groups! The same few people post constantly. How is that helping??? Thank you for being a voice of sanity in this community ❤️
Thank you so much for your perspective. We're getting licensed for foster care and to be completely honest, the vitriol out there has gotten me completely discouraged. Do I wish there wasn't a need for foster care and adoption? 100% ABSOLUTELY!! I also see a need and am willing to be the change like you said. Thank you again for what you do.
Your input as a former foster child now foster mom is so valuable! Speaking as someone who did not have your same life experiences but wants to help be that change for a child, I feel like I need to hear your words to get some perspective on what these kids are facing. So thank you so much for sharing openly, honestly, and so graciously.
Just wanted to say that I appreciate your videos.....my husband and I are in the licensing process to become foster parents. I love that fact that you keep it real and are genuine. Life is too short to be dealing with fakes and people that want to bring you down!
I love your videos! I am an adoptive mom and am currently getting licensed as a foster parent. I find your videos, and particularly your perspective as former foster youth, to be so helpful. If you enjoy making the videos, I would love to keep watching them ❤️.
Thank you for your videos. I found your videos very helpful. I binged (listened to) your videos on my way to my first placement hearing. I was asked to meet the bio mom and I immediately thought about you. My family will be growing +1 in 4 days. You are appreciated!
It’s totally valid that you have felt discouraged from all of this. Personally, few things are as triggering as being told your experience/identity isn’t real or valid because you don’t fit certain statistics. Like I think I know more about my experience than you do. I appreciate your content but definitely do whatever you need to to take care of yourself! 💜
Nope. You don't need to put with that. If you need to take a break than do it. Hugs your way 💕💕 sorry you felt discouraged. I totally get that a lot negativity and strong point of views.
I have encountered the same groups. I was intentionally seeking adult adoptee perspectives but unfortunately the negativity overshadowed it. And it appears to be the same individuals who in my opinion need therapy. I also was discouraged but it didn’t last long because truth is the good/successful stories aren’t shared as much as the bad ones because everyone wants a scary story to tell. Also these anti groups don’t offer solutions which makes it worse for the kids in the system. We just had our first adoptive placement and I’m choosing to rely on my faith and surround myself with others who did the journey that are more seasoned so that I can learn from them. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for your videos! We are currently on the cusp of possibly taking our first ever placement which could be an adoptive placement. Just wondering if there is a forum to send you some specific questions, possibly through email or something along those lines. Thank you for the encouragement!
Is it possible that you could make a "well-packaged" video about the negativity and discouragement to be found? *I know that's not your outlook or normal approach, I just like to be well informed/prepared. I've been wanting to get into fostering for a while now, and have just recently started discussing it with my partner, so I'm really trying to soak up whatever is out there to find for us! Thank you for your time :)
