I had a friend who served in Afghanistan, who sadly died while travelling in "snatch" landrover. Never meant for this situation, the whole war a waste of money. More importantly many lives lost. R.I.P.
Used to know a couple of guys near Los Angeles, that actually imported one of these: still had the phone number & the armor plating, too! Nothing on the inside though, other than the front seats, the rear was completely empty, but I recall it still had the hatch on the roof.
Pretty much obsolete but loved them when I served spent a lot if time with defenders and the various platforms based on it. The heat blowers on them are like furnaces dried a lot of wet kit on defender dashes 😂 combat they are crap but still a great workhorse when it's needed 👌
these are the land rovers we used in n.ireland with the snitch numbers on the side and the top hatch was to do top cover when doing mobile patrols we also used them in iraq but they were not fit for the job there ok for petrol bombs in n.ireland but crap for ied's or land mines in iraq because of the armour plating they can't be sold on thats why there put in storage where your finding them
Drove 1 of the 1st batches of snatch land rovers in 1992 when they got delivered to northern ireland had to do a small driving test 1st see if you could drive them ok got a vision of the future when my driver side wing fell off on route to location and on a motorway doing 70 bloody thing used to wobble to top heavy😮
At the start of your video those Land Rovers were used in the Northern Ireland troubles.(Snatch).The writing would have said "0800.........Freephone Confidentially".Basically any information you wish to give to the army ref reporting incidents in confidence.A lot came out of storage & were later recomissioned/revamped & used in Gulf War 2 Op Telic Iraq 2003/Op Herrick Afghanistan & quickly sprayed up in.desert colours.Even though they were armoured plated they gave little protection from I.E.D's & were nick named "Mobile Coffins"..Sadly there was fatalities & were hated by the troops & families of the deceased.Eventually binned...Best thing for them...They should have never even been used out in the Gulf/Afghan in the 1st place.A lot of families went on to sue the M.O.D....After all the M.O.D had a duty of care for soldier safety but failed to fufill this.....MISERABLY........R.I.P....
Trouble is there was no alternative at that point, The Snatch was the only armoured light vehicle the army had, it’s was snatch or normal soft skinned Wolf.
Hi ín Northern Ireland we did NOT have troubles. We had an ou & out terrorist campaign by mainly the IRA no different to the Taliban or any other group of terrorist.
