ABANDONED Land Rover - Will It Start ? 

Ive owned about 30 Land Rovers here in Australia. Watching that 2.25 litre engine come to life made my day. They are the sweetest little four cylinder engines. I used to be in the geology business. Our Series IIa SWB Landies had that motor. When the geos drove from Sydney to Broken Hill (a very long way), they used to use the "cruise control" otherwise called the hand throttle (fitted for winches). They would get the Landi up to "cruising speed" (what ever it would go) and then set the cruise control flat out. The engine would be revving absolutely flat out and the result of this would be that the exhaust pipe would become extremely hot making the aluminium floor also red hot. No problem - feet up on the dash and off we go. The speedo would go well past the 70mph mark. Great little beasts. Wish I still had one. (Still have a td5 Disco though for old time's sake. Mike

Back when they built Land Rovers that some bloke in a mud hut could fix with a shoe lace and a rock. And I have found Bucklers suit me well, long lasting and comfortable.

Coming from someone with a ex Royal Australian Army GS CV you’ve got a nice one there. Those 2.25L petrols are stout as a proverbial brick dunny. Mine had been abandoned for 10 years and with just fresh fuel it fired up and ticked over like a sewing machine!

Really impressed with that. First time I've ever heard a Land Rover engine going well over 4k RPM. Got a lightweight at home. Old soldiers don't die, they just go to a sleep for a bit then back on it.

Great vid mucker those old landy engines are bullet proof worked ona few with my late father looked gone for all money then out of nowhere they would just fire and always sounded sweet

We have had similar experiences, we started a 1960’s Diesel 2.25 and drove it out of the ditch. It been standing for 40 years. As for boots I use steel toe cap cat boots

Jallatte Rigger boots, comfy with easy pull on and slide off. No messing with laces either. Smashing boots with lots of choice. Great for wide feet!

For work boots it has to be a pair of John Bulls get them in NZ and shipped to the UK. Very comfortable and last years. Well recommended

I was on fork trucks and lorries for the last 17 years of my working life and our company insisted we wore "Plus 50" toe protection they were ok once we got used to them and towards the end they made trainers with toe protection.Great video once again.Cheers.

Great vid, my old IIa looked like that when I first got it. Been wearing steel toe caterpillars for the last 10 years or so. Wear them every day and get about 2 years out them each time. Very comfortable!

Easy, I went to AUSTRALIA in 2005 and brought back a pair of Steel Blue, toe tech, leather dealer boots. I am now on my 3rd pair. They are my go to boot, walking, working or even going out with a splash of “Leather Genie”. They easily outlast anything you can buy over here (UK) and soooo comfy!

Another brilliant effort. Looking at that poor old beastie, I thought that when you said you were going to fire it up, that you were just going to dump a quart of petrol on it, toss in a match and walk away. But it would still probably run after that. For those that complain about the movie inserts? WTF is wrong with you? Carolina steel toe boots have to be my choice. They last the longest, and like the Rover, you want to wear them even when they're coming apart on your feet.

Just sold my '64 Series IIA. In the early 2000s, I rebuilt it from bits onto a new galvanized frame, rebuilt the engine then drove it up to Canada for a Land Rover Rally. After getting back home with zero issues, I drove it less and less til my daughter was born. Then I never drove it. I'm sad about selling it but it makes more sense in all honesty.

Very satisfying to see that 2.25 fire up. I had the one in my 88" running a few years back after sitting since the 1990s.

As I sit here in lockdown and think back on this year, I have to say Lord Muck has helped keep me sane. In addition to the Covid, it’s a challenge taking care of my dad, who has memory loss. Sometimes we will watch together, and while he doesn’t always understand the humor or why anyone would want to watch a 60 year old crawler start up, he does admire your mechanical abilities. Great video once again I love my red back boots been wearing last pair for last two years but work demands wellies so I can disinfect between farms and my wellies of choice are land masters by Dunlop they really are comfortable I can wear them all year no problem. I’ve tried the big moon boot things and your like a cloppy horse in them no feeling at all and on anything above minus 5 your feet sweat and rub. Hope that’s a suitable reply 😀

Excellent question my lord. Carolina boots are my favorite. Been through a lot of crap ones till I found these. As others have said the rally driver line is priceless. I bow down once again to your genius my lord.

Always like watching videos like these and I still miss my '63 2a after 25 years. It was my 1st car, spent my time getting it roadworthy while learning to drive, so it was ready for when I passed my test, used it for a lot of my apprenticeship in terms of the work I did on it was submitted as evidence for my NVQ. Another bonus was the 2.25 petrol ran on pretty much anything and as an apprentice, anything it would run on was great. there were a number of car hire and body shops on the industrial estate and the garage I worked at was opposite the petrol station, so as you could probably imagine, lots of people misfueled their courtesy or hire car, we'd pull it into our workshop, drain the fuel and put fresh correct in. Rather than pouring the contaminated fuel into the waste fluid tank, it all went straight into my Land Rover, sometimes I could have as much as 75% diesel/25% petrol, but she always started and thanks to those people's misfortunes, I was able to have fuel for my social life and keep my money back for other stuff. I ended up selling it to a farmer in the Bristol area to use as a farm hack, but not sure if he ever took it home or left it at his parent's farm in East Sussex, it doesn't appear to have had a MOT (although now MOT exempt) for a very long time and after his parents died, the farm was sold and barns converted into homes, so it quite possibly ended up at a local scrap yard, although it isn't marked as being scrapped by DVLA, so who knows whatever happened to it.

Started wearing Redback safety boots a couple of years ago. All day comfy, massive recommendation.

Favorite work boot? Red Wing, by a huge margin. True, they're a bit pricey. but fit perfectly, and wear like iron. I have worn a pair at work, in factory maintenance for as long as 6 years before buying new ones.

Boots - Being a plumber I wear lace up Dewalt boots on a daily basis, although if I am going in and out of a customer's house all the time I wear a pair of Dewalt slip on Dealer boots. Also got a nice pair of black Dr Martens steel toe caps which i keep for non damaging environments. Away from work, if i know i don't have to take the boots off all day I have a fantastic pair of ex military dessert boots which are so comfortable, but have so many lace holes and being a tight fit mean they are a bugger to take on and off.

Screwfix Site Mudguard Safety Dearler boot. Brilliant a pair last 3/4 years, comfortable to wear all day, can't really fault them cheap too. Another great interesting post thanks and take care.

Damn it if I didn’t have a nocturnal mechanical fantasy last night that our hero Lord Muck found an abandoned Rolls Royce Griffin and did a ‘Will it start’ video. Pondering it further with the eyes open, I think it’s a bloody good idea! I’m guessing there aren’t too many barns across the pond with a Merlin, Griffon or Napier Sabre tucked inside, but if anyone could find one and get it started, I’d put my money on #LM2020

As far as work boots 🥾 goes, I have had so many over the past 34 years that it’s really hard for me to say which ones I liked the most and have been the most comfortable too, sorry your Lordship I don’t have answer for you, but still you really do a great job with your vids and you work really well with your glamorous assistant and I can’t wait to see your next video. The older landies go forever, my 110 200tdi has 270,000 miles on it, never had engine or box rebuilt. All you need to do is piss in the coolant every now and then and feed her some 5w 30 every Christmas.

As work boots go, I look at what the Emergency Services are wearing. Where I live they all wear the same boot (SWAT) and so do I. On my fifth pair and even bought some for a friend. The beauty of them is you can go hiking in the morning, wade through water and then change your socks and slacks, wack on some polish and you are off to dinner. I will take a pass on the rally option:)

Old Landrovers never die but all engines wear out eventually. In 1981 I bought a Series IIA that had the original six cylinder engine replaced with a 161 2.6ltr Holden unit. We upgraded that to a 186 3.0ltr in 1990. It is a cab chassis long wheel base with an aluminium tray and has been a great farm Ute. We were always worried about breaking an axle or some part of the drive train due to the extra horsepower but it never did. Mack steel cap work boots have been the best I’ve ever had.

Great video.the boots I use are from screwfix called site for me they are really comfortable and cheap about £30 which iam a self employed gardener pushing a mower round all day they are fantastic

My most recent purchase was Blacksmith Wendell Steel Cap Sneakers from Big W. AU$59 and very comfortable for spending 12hrs/day on your feet. First video I've seen - looks like I'll enjoy many more!

Made me remember when I had the back of mine jacked up with a trolley jack as i was fitting new drums, anyho finished all my work and was knelt down behind the rear crossmember completely forgetting the tow bar was above my knee and depressurised the jack... Words do not describe the pain

Boots... at one time I owned a pair of Whites. Best boots I've ever had. They are still manufactured and you still have to take out a second mortgage to pay for them, but man they make a nice boot.

Boots: Ariat fire resistant. Enjoyed the video. Many Americans unfamiliar w/ the Land Rover brand. Expensive w/ limited dealer support. The G503 Jeep, more Military iconic here. Given a choice, prefer the off-road equipment, tractors, crawlers, loaders & the like. The start sequence is like a golf shot, off the tee, trajectory uncertain. So the gallery, collectively leans left or right as if their position might influence where the ball will land. It is much the same when the engine is cranking. We lean a bit into the keyboard for that extra incentive to fire. A horse race could be another example, neck & neck approaching the finish. The audience lends virtual push to their horse, as if they are along in the saddle, Then the engine starts to a sigh of relief & accomplishment

The best boots i have ever found are Steel Blue, they're aussie but you can get them here now. Most comfortable boots i have come across. Good boots and a good bed, if I'm not in one I'm in the other

De Walt work boot with steel toe cap and thin steel sole plate. (They are warm). Love the "Rally Driver" I can use that in lots of places.

I swore by Rebok BB4600 basketball shoes with a good rubber overshoe for more than 30 years but alas, Rebok quit making them in 07 or so. So it's been Ariat since then. Best regards from Indiana, USA.

Engelbert Strauss safety hiking boots. Wear them all day at work and most of the time when not at work. They are even my chosen boots for walking the coastal paths near me. Better than my "real" walking boots. Warm, dry and very comfortable. Well worth the £100.

Ariat Workhogs, my favorite until my next favorite pair of boots shows up. Derek with his "lightning hoses" hilarious. Cup of coffee and Lord Muck will it start, a great way to start the morning.

Brings back memories of our series 3 diesel put in overdrive and side windows use to fall out on you're lap🙈 had a pair of redbacks this year they were expensive but they're comfortable and seem to lasting well been struggling to get 12 months out of pair before a lot of boots don't like welding seems to burn the threads and boots fall apart.
