Follow up on this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uy9uywYY6Tc.html Saw a lot of comments about it being shame to scrap a car with all the good parts on it. They're only good if people need them and are willing to buy them. I listed this car is the parts car before even picking it up. If you're interested in something, shoot me an offer. Would be great to see somebody use the glass or other usable items
Dude you’re a warrior when it comes to these videos. I have no doubt we’ll see that 4 cylinder engine again being put back in service. Now we just need to get you moved out into the country. Should try the south.
The '53 to '62 MB had some of the first "pontoon" styling in which the fenders and the body sides were all on the same basic plane. They were some of the first unibodies with crumple zones which made them safer in a crash but also made them more prone to being slowly totaled by rust. I had a 1961 with the fins. It had diagonally opposed brakes, a plastic brake reservoir, and seat belts well before most cars. These had a very fragile ether bulb and long copper tube for the engine temp gauge. I'd be amazed if it still worked, but if it did it would probably be worth some money. ALSO, the terminals for the Bakelite electrical connections under the dash for these are silver. It might even be solid silver, but I'm not sure.
So if you hadn't pulled it out of there it would have a) rusted into the ground and been useable to nobody or b) gone to the scrapyard whole anyway. Some people need to engage their brains before they start commenting on stuff
Reasons people watch your vlogs. 1) you’re genuinely nice people or amazing actors 2) you know your stuff 3) you find interesting vehicles 4) you obviously love each other and are a great match . I wish you all the best in life. Cheers from Toronto
You said it perfectly, Dr Anderson! Right on! Jen & Chris are the real deal - always a pleasure to watch their collective and singular work - a treat for the orbs and CPU of my head!
Amazed to hear that MB idle after sitting for almost 5 decades Poster child for “they don’t build them like they used to” Hope it finds a good home and lives on for years to come
NNK, i wonder if you could poll your commentors on how much they like a paticular design when you do a "Will it Run" episode. Then from the encouragement in the comments, reach out to the vehicle brand, pointing out how much the classic design is a favorite. Especially the engine compartment, windows, seats, headlights, console, etc in how a specific year Wows the car buying public. After they see a 360 up close. Maybe that gets a modern model with lighter bodies & hybrid engines, regen braking, etc. Maybe gets you some State of the Art tech parts for revealing how some classics need more retrograde to durability and old guy design.
Chris ,Just keep doing what your doing , there's only one person you have to please and that's you ,with better than a half a million subscribers your doing something we like keep doing it .
Agreed. Chris is a hard working dude and it's paying dividends for him I'd imagine. Half million subs on THIS channel. Guy has a few channels and if memory serves me correctly he has even more subs on nnkh2 where he reviews stuff. Honestly he deserves all the growth, man never sleeps.
Almost ZERO cars made in the last 20 years would be able to do this in 50 years sitting like this.. so much crap plastic and delicate electronics.. it honestly amazing this thing ran with so little effort.. and such a cool car, lots of history with the old Mercedes.. i bet many people are looking for a running motor like this.. great job !!
Another great will it run! Never expected that to fire up so quick, nicely done. You definitely made the right choice scapping the entire car as is, everyone will tell you how valuable this or that part is, and yet no one buys it. I sat with two cars worth of 115/114 parts for several years, including all glass, and no takers even free. Ended up scrapping most in the end. You just sped up the process.
Im right there with you Chris. These are my favourite types of videos you do. Saving the old stuff even if its just some parts. Good to see something different too. Keep it up man.
I would have saved ALL the glass, the door handles, window winders, headlights..... basically anything that could help an enthusiast rebuild a classic.................there's NO way someone could find those windows, to the right customer they'd be worth a fortune!
I think you were right scraping the MB, but you might help your lady & you make some custom lamps or wall decorations. The steering wheel would have made a fun table center piece or plant pot base.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow A month is nothing. I had some way more modern parts listed for years before someone bought them. Not too much money, but the fact they'll help another vehicle to survive, is very satisfying.
I enjoy how you approach each job and you don’t waste very many steps, like mowing where the tow pig was after you moved it. Tech’s like you are very rare. You are gifted with the rare common sense element. Not seen much today.
Chris, I was like oh man this POS really? But WOW man that was FANTASTIC ! that little engine is a beauty, I wonder if it would fit and work in a little import pickup or something. Whatever it is I and ALL of us will be here ! You are one TALENTED Guy ! GREAT CHANNEL !
I absolutely love it my man when you hoover and pressure wash any project vehicle. It makes me happy!!! 😊 You’re a legend mate, love your content and always watch anything fresh. Binge watched older stuff too btw. Keep them coming bro…. Man love…. From south west UK BABY!! 🙏🤝🤜🤛
Agree completely. Love the way you clean these old vehicles, no matter if you'll save them or not. Just can't stand watching cars get crushed without saving the few parts that are usable. There's always someone that can use a window glass, trim piece, or in this case, a great little 4-pot. Good job!
I know what a struggle it can be surviving a stroke so I give you props that you keep on pushing and I'm glad you get some joy and satisfaction from watching these videos.. I do too
I completely agree but that’s the great thing about our just about still free western society. I’ll fight for his right to do his thing as much as my own. I have the freedom not to watch it!
Chris, Mercedes-Benz manufactured the "Ponton" (German for pontoon-- referring the bulbous body) from about 1953 to 1959, basically. The next series was the "Heckflosse" or swallow-tail, which was what they called the model with tailfins (which remind me of an old Rambler somewhat). I had a 1965 M-B 190D with the 1.9 liter diesel motor that was a dark grey similar to that Ponton. Rated at 69 bhp, it wasn't a speed demon, but it ran great. These models of Mercedes had an issue with rust (like most European cars of this era) especially in the frame.
Just picture the great condition of that Ponton - on the day that it was originally parked there! How the cars life has been wasted by some stupid owner. Thousands of valuable cars have ended their days in this way.
Chris, as an MGB enthusiast. If you can get the hood and luggage rack off that car, thry are desirable. Not huge money, but certainly enough to be worth your while.
Watching this on my iPad, while watching the Phils on TV. Great msg during the power wash.😂 Love your videos. Got my 1996 25hp 2stroke Tohatsu outboard running the other day, after 14 years of sitting idle. Watching your channel was a huge inspiration for that to happen. 👍
Chris...you, Jennifer Sugint, Derek Bieri, Dalton Summitt and Kevin Brown are my favorite to watch on RU-vid! I just absolutely look forward to yours and Jen's new videos when they come up! Thank you for being awesome...I love your content! I also agree with you about Whistlin' Diesel... can't get down with destroying good stuff either! Shame on him! Stay awesome man! Alberta, Canada loves you!
I really enjoyed this one! My first car (1975) was a 1959 Mercedes 190. It looked very similar to yours, it had the big 6 cylinder and the 4 speed on the tree, electric clutch. Low compression in 2 cylinders, clutch slipped but we had a great time in it! All the “cool” kids had mustangs or Camaros but those kids had nothing on me! Sold it to a “Mercedes guy” took the money and bought a VW squareback
You cannot even compare your channel to the Whistlin Diesel guy, you respect cars and try to save them. Not in a carshow display condition, but at least functional, reliable and running, your passion is shinning through your videos, and so are your skills and mindset. I think we all admire that, not to mention you bring us all in cool adventures. I think we all can tell by now you're just genuine, and with or without camera, that would be the same lifestyle, cause you get the thrill from it. The Whistlin Diesel guy is the typical young rich kid, who had everything in his life, and has no particular skills but spending his money in stupid ways, faking some publicity stunts and destroying things the average joe could never buy in one life, for fun, and for an absurd amount of view and money, in the way selling merchandising to his community, which is probably pretty young. He's just this kind of talentless, views grinding youtuber, almost a Logan Paul for automobiles. Best thing is to ignore him anyway, I suspect nobody liking NNKH would appreciate the guy's "work".
I like both. Whistling diesel is just absurd. Definitely one video every once in a while just to see some carnage. Maybe roll my eyes a couple times. Nnkh though is just RELAXING to watch. I could watch for hours! Love your videos Chris!
i'm no whistlin dicks fan BUT i don't think he started out rich , but he's the poster child for "you can't buy sense" ... that being said he definitely knows how to make money , i just can't understand why anyone would buy the hideous and overpriced shirts he sells ... i think most of his customers are young kids spending THEIR parents money
Did the conflict with the landlord stem from the crazy guy that maneuvered the truck out in the middle of the night with a loud muffler? I bet nobody like that and you should have camped out until morning; though you did have to go out the wrong way up a one way street, and that might only have been doable in the wee hours, so I don't see any good options.
hi chris, love your videos..local guy here.. some of the old stone homes in that part of germantown are really old.. those two stone houses are actually more like mid to late 1700's.. that mural on the wall above the fireplace looks like late 18th century.. obviously someone has been thru the houses and stripped the fireplace mantels out... hopefully they arent going to be torn down.. i love old cars, old houses too... keep up the great videos!!!
Agreed about your comment regarding whistling diesel, you have to wonder about the type of person that enjoys watching that rubbish. Says alot about his audience tbh.
i like working on old stuff too. but every now and then we take one out and wreck it. if Chris were so concerned, why not restore that Benz??? instead of tearing it up with the tractor?? diffrent views for diffrent folks.
@@thomasgirty6397 "why not restore that Benz?" Have you look at the other video? It seems that this Benz is in such a bad shape that it is beyond reasonable restoration !
Watch all your videos and if you made a hundred bucks off the Mercedes at the scrap yard you ended up finding that saw and making money off of that. He made $400 in an afternoon. That's awesome. I wish I could be there helping you. Keep up the great content!
then why didnt YOU spend thousands of dollars restoring that Benz???? i was upset that he abused that tractor lifting that junk up. why even bring WD up??? not happy with YOUR view's??? C'MON MAN !!!
I was so happy to see you take on that Mercedes. On the caddy video I made a comment hoping you would take a swing at it and I love that you did. The reason I watch your videos is because mechanics is in my blood. Dad is a an independent mechanic here in Oregon. Owns and runs his own shop for 35+ years. Specializes in Mercedes and BMW. Mostly older ones. I know many of his customers, good people. When one passed away I was able to purchase his Mercedes. A 1998 E320. However more importantly, a car that my dad had maintained for decades. Two years of ownership with few issues. I asked dad about this particular Mercedes and he shared some of his knowledge. What he told me lines up pretty well with what we see in this video. He said the engines where the best part of these cars. "bulletproof" was the word he used. Everything else was problem after problem in his experience but the engines would run with minimal effort or maintenance. I spoke with him after watching the caddy video so I had not seen this one yet. He brought up the rear suspension and axle being a source of problems for the car. Then I watch this and the rear axle is all kinds of messed up. He also talked about the hood problem, not new for him being a Mercedes mechanic, those hood attached grills being difficult to work around but later Mercedes had hinges that allow the hoods to go up higher, my E320 has a hinge button that allows the hood to go up 90 degrees.
i love seeing those old cars run again it always amazes me how they always just start right up after sitting for years it's that old school stuff it was meant to last
I love what you do and your video format is perfect! Bringing these old vehicles back to life, you are great, your partner and the dog, good luck, keep moving towards the best possible.... J'adore ce que vous faites et votre format vidéo est parfait ! Redonner vie à ces vieux véhicules, vous êtes formidables, votre partenaire et le chien, bon courage, continuez à avancer vers le meilleur possible...BEN de FRANCE
Absolutely enjoyed the video Chris. I would of saved the grill it would of made a nice wall hanger. Hopefully you will go back and get that wagon. Thanks for taking the time to share. D
It's super cool when I learn about a car I never heard of. Now the Volvo I knew because I'm a Volvo enthusiast, but the Mercedes Ponton is new to me. Can't wait to see the rest of this video. Thanks NNKH!!!!
Hello friend from Argentina, I have been following you. I send you and your family a hug. I don't know how to speak English or write English, I only know Spanish, but with the cell phone application I hope you understand it, a big hug.
Love your channel Chris. I'm with you 110% regarding WhistlinDiesel. I tried watching it a couple of times and left disgusted. I like watching and supporting people I can relate to. Thank you for what you and Jen do. All the best from Worcester County Massachusetts! ☮️ on 🌎

Thank you for your content. Greetings from Lithuania!!!
I like your channel. You are the best mechanic i ever see. Old car, boats. All you do is fun to watch, and you look so happy in your life. I wished you the best
Love these type of videos you do. Totally worth saving what you can from a car like this rather than having it keep sitting there rotting away or it all getting scraped. That particular MB 4 cylinders are great engines!
Hi Chris, great video…again…. I think the B18 in the Volvo will run also!!Been playing around with these engines for 40 years and not a single one has ever let me down. The two piece trunk will be worth saving but I guess they’re also rusty?! Greetings from Belgium.
G,day Chris, Jen, Gusman and Turbo from Sydney Australia. Pity about the MG that would be a nice red sport car. I can see the Mercedes Black or Grey. New hoops, caps and vinyl seats. I still appreciate your tech talk. I'm listening and learning bud!☔
That engine ran amazingly! Really cool to see and hear it fire up. Must've been a cool little car in it's day. Makes me think of my late uncle who used to get old used Benzes. He would have probably known about this model.
im on 15:00 and as a backyardcarsavior myself i can say this sleeping beauty sitting for as long as she was last registered! 100% / and yeah i am a german and i naturaly knew she would run without any problems, ahh and those hutcaps are worth a fortune! AND THE WINDOWS!! and the interior!!! why did u scrapped al of it!!! dang bro!
I can't believe the carb jets were still clear enough to flow after all these years. Amazing. And I'll bet this is the first time anyone removed an engine the way you just did!
The exact reason I watch you and VGG. saving our automotive history. I have a one owner 93 Chevy truck it will live as long as I do and hopefully long after.
Hey buddy. I am a Ukrainian living in Canada. And I watch your videos with great pleasure. I wish you good luck in the development of the channel! Respect!
Always shocked to hear that combustion kick in. Nice salvage of that engine. I know nothing about classic cars, but I would think those body panels would be worth something to those who restore these old gems. They looks rusty, but solid.
yeah same with the trim, glass ect my thoughts exactly but i guess he thought that 4 banger from the stone age was worth more than panels XD but take a 4 banger out to shove another 4 banger back in haha
GREAT video! So glad you saved the engine Chris... It is a shame the rest of the car was too far gone but that's what makes the ones that are savable special. I can't get "behind" those that save something just to destroy it for "views". Just shows the direction we're going nowadays... and why I enjoy what you, Jen, Gus and Turbo do :) Keep up the good work!
I enjoy every video you have posted, as well as Jen’s. Boundless enthusiasm and energy! Ya know how to take care of business . And you get to do what you want to do, when you choose to do it. I recognize the location the Benz was at from the long night you spent helping get the Uhaul truck on the road.
I dunno about you, but I always find it so interesting to dive into a car from a maker/country I've never worked on extensively. Especially something of this vintage. There's just something cool about seeing how they designed things differently than us.
I used to watch Whistlin Diesel, but got annoyed by the destruction after a while. I like your channel more for many reasons. It's interesting what will happen getting into these relics. You and Jen seem to be really nice folks, and Gus is a riot to watch! Not to mention, you're kinda local to me as I live in Upper Bucks County!
I hope you guys are going to be flying to the west coast for another "will it run and drive home" video. Love those. I said it before, you are the real Chris Fix.
and worked hard to get where he is to do it. diffrent content for diffrent taste's. i like Chris's video's but i like to see a Ferarri get pounded on too!!! that car was tougher than i thought.
Lol, Chris, you saved some excellent parts. I was glad the MB went to the crusher. It would have been a total waste to try and drive. Your explanation at the end was spot on. Thanks for the cool try.😂
Another great vid Chris, keep doing exactly what you’re doing! Even though that Merc was beyond saving there’s still every reason to do as you did and see what can be done with it, for the fun of it if nothing else. You managed to save the engine so it’s not a total waste of time and I’m sure someone somewhere could put that engine to good use.
Your videos are great and I learn a lot from you. Please don’t stop the will it run videos. VGG has moved on for the most part it seems from will it run videos so it’s nice to be able to watch you work magic.
Seldom got so many smiles by looking a car discovery pakkage like this. In my Germantown behind the big lake theses types are very rare, i Had the luck of period oldtimer markets nearby seeing more of these types than in my youth. Great tricky content, keep healthy and in ardor of discovery
HUGE fan of your stuff. Im an HVAC guy, grew up working on cars with my Dad who was a 50+yr Ford milright @Livinia Transmission.. There's something to be said for being booksmart, but you have the ability to find solutions in a totally different way. Love your cross country fly and drives. I wish i had 10% of the auto repair knowledge you do. Keep up the fantastic content. Hope Gus and Jen are doing well too. Take care and stay safe, brotha.
