It's a close shave, but just not very comfortable, and not so much better than the other alternatives. I will stick with the Gillette Silver Blues, I think.
Nice shave Michael💈💈 Even if you blow the description of the bowl, you are using it as it was designed, to lather up the soap and load the brush😊 And by the way, that is a nice brush, I like the style of the handle and have many like it😁 The soap used today seems high quality as most of AYLM soaps are. Feather blades are thinner than most, expect a degree of performance degradation in razors with, shall we say, less rigidity in blade holding ability🙄 Great video as always and comments worthy👍 Enjoy!
The bowl seems to have a mind of its own, I just follow along. The brush is really quite a looker and the knot is a joy, but now it sits on the shelf -- waiting for its turn weeks or months from now. That hurts.
Yes Feather blades are known to be a bit of roughness. I notice that also when a straight razor is only honed on a synthetic progression of honing stones and not finished on a natural stone which gives the edge some more comfort and keeps the keenness (Jnat or Thurigian for example)
That ☘️ brush is very well made. Nice win! Great shave. Your Italian pronunciation is excellent. I don’t speak Italian, but I grew up around many Italian families and your pronunciation always takes me back. My late Mom had a favorite Italian (family own) market she frequented and I loved the smells and the yummy Italian baked goodies. I can still hear one of the clerks saying, as he handed my Mom a small cookie of sorts , “for the bambino!” Did you grow up hearing it?
We used to travel to Italy to ski in the winter, and I studied Italian in college, even taught it as a graduate student! Love Italian, and it's fun to speak! If you remember those cookies, you should look into getting the AYLM "Crumiro" - that will bring back some memories for you!
Great shave Michael. The best thing you can do with a Feather blade is to run both edges of the blade through a wine bottle cork 2 times before the first use. It makes a world of difference and then some. Straight out of the pack a Feather blade can't pass the hanging hair test but it can after running the blade through a piece of cork. But... You shave where there is no lather... That is insane! I thought I was the king of "shaving where there is no lather". Abbate Y La Mantia. Fantastic 3rd soap base, after.... the two monsters. I kept Excelsior out finally. PS I dislike Feather.
Point being - you might as well buy the chrome version of the Fatip - the gunmetal finish does not “add value to the product”. I note that you forgot to wear the “Michael Freedberg ear shields” - no wonder you got soap in the ears.
Nice shave, Michael! Do you know if the previous soap bases were TFS or AyLM recipe made by TFS? Feather blades always give me weepers. They are sharp, but I can't help thinking maybe they have a micro burr on the edge when new. Thanks! Cheers! -Rob
The previous base was made by TFS following a recipe, or based on a "design", from AYLM. The previous bases were definitely NOT the same as the more routine TFS soaps (which is not a slam, I really liked them). I could not make it through a single shave without a weeper here or there - no cuts, just a spot of blood here or there. I don't need that :-)
Im new to wet shaving ... i gor my stuff yesterday i bought 30 feather blades like a n00b and yesterday aftee my first ahave i had like 20 weepers... what blade other blades are goos but not as sharp ???
