He held that title for over 4 years straight . That means not only is he a pros pro but that he never broke on the road . Lots of people wanted to win the NWA title but few could handle the dangers of someone shooting on you and fewer still could handle the travel .
I have become more of a fan of Dory since watching both his NWA Championship matches with Jack Brisco and his work in Japan . I did not have much interest in him in Florida and MidAtlantic in the 80s mainly because I had no access to their products .All I had to judge Dory with was wrestling magazines and trading cards . Dory is way more appealing live than just in photos . Terry I had seen before and knew he was good but I also knew he was nothing like Dory in the way he performed . So I am happy to see these Dory matches appearing on RU-vid to show me how good he was .
Everything he did looked good except maybe for the spinning toe hold ... in my opinion you are just gonna kick him or punch your way out of it . I never liked it but it was a Funk calling card . A signature . So I get why he kept using it .
