What a great podcast! As I was listening to it, I looked at my collection (sadly way too many) of regular/double 8mm film cameras and just sat and wondered what these cameras have recorded in their lifetime. Most of mine date from the 50’s-60’s. It’s most likely just family events, maybe a few amateur movies, weddings, birthdays, etc. This podcast just added to the passion of collecting these cameras. Thank you for putting this on.
I do have a zoomatic very close to what Zapruder had (excluding a few cosmetic details) it’s the only regular 8 camera that had a spring go bad while I was winding it. I also got a non electric eye one too.
Video @ 34:43 "the way you're pronouncing it" - Mr. Zapruder was interviewed live on local Dallas WFAA-TV less than 3 hours after the Assassination; he pronounced his name at the start. - He also stated that he brought the camera & film with him (the lengthy process described by Leslie had yet to begin)... Question: I'm just getting ready to order film for my Zapruder Bell & Howell 414 Zoomatic Director Series double 8 camera (exact same model) but happen to notice that the film take-up or powered spool slips if I put enough pressure on it. The shaft in the camera looks fine and I tried other spools...no difference. Is this spool supposed to slip like this?
@@ianbutler1983 I've heard him pronounce the "ah" sound in his WFAA interview but I'm pretty sure that's his NYC accent. I don't think I heard "Zab" instead of "Zap" though. Just my own ears, of course. His granddaughter definitely pronounces it "Zap-ruder".
