I see this product as a shampoo to use on a car that is going to be polished, paint corrected etc. Would not use it on a regular wash

Yes, as a step after rinse this is perfect for removing old waxes and polishes in the event you’re gonna do some paint correction. Good point. I was actually thinking about dumping some old light polish I have into my soap and use it with clay only with the intent to polish after.

So Im actually finding this product very very handy. I dont use it how meguiars have intended it to be used.. As a wax maker Its so damn handy to be able to strip waxes from panels with a wet wash process rather than having to work abrasive pre wax cleaners over the panel by machine. Its saving me so much time having this product. Like I said in the video.. The product, is also DAMN handy for really cleaning glass out well during the wash process. It cleans glass so well. Its cleans paintwork more than just a normal non abrasive wash, but it wont remove that much bonded contamination in my opnion. Its not going to scrub off thick tar spots or remove scratches or fallout etc.. It is actually a revolution this product. Its really growing on me, in fact I will prolly never be without it now. So many times I have product on my car and I need it gone to test another product. Now I can actually remove it (most times) with having to bust out a polisher and work an abrasive cleaner over it. that is priceless. Its actually a very cool product. But Like I said in the video its a niche product, thats going to be usefull for people really into their detailing that have a specific use for it. For joe public who are not into car cleaning as much (fair enough) I dont think its giving you much (in fact the way meguiars suggest you should use it is generally going to increase the risk of swirling up your paintwork)

Forensic Detailing Channel Absolutely agree with you. I won't use it for regular washing, but I will bring it out when a need arises. Glass washing! Yes! I was hoping to remove stubborn water spots off the side glass of my 1996 Jeep Cherokee with this. It didn't. But boy did it do a nice job cleaning the glass. Felt as if I had clayed the glass! Seems it isn't getting much love this side of the pond. One retail chain even sold them for about 1 US Dollar. I'll stock up next time I see them that cheap.

Jon, big change of heart then lol. So if I was to employ pre-wash as usual then was with this with the purpose of stripping LSP, would you say this is enough to be rid of prewax cleaners? It'll definitely speed up the process!
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
the problem is the pre wash doesnt remove all the dirt film.. so you will just mitigate the problem I raised about scratching. I personally wouldnt use this like you just suggested on the 140. but sure i would probably use it like that on the golf if isnt wasnt filfthy.. I dont think its as thourough as abrasive pre wax cleaners. to really get it to strip you need to load up more with it give it a good scrub with a bit more pressure...

Forensic Detailing Channel As a glass cleaner to strip the grime sounds interesting. I’m beginning the think on this one a little more. As you correctly said Jon at the beginning, this is a revolutionary new product and like all revolutions, it can be controversial. Thanks for sharing as always 👍🏼

I’ve used this on several cars so far and found that using a snow foam pre wash first and the meguairs lambs wool mitt rather than the micro fibre one works a lot better! I have even managed to get out some small scuffs/scratches with it too as they suggest. Great product

You hit the nail on the head, it’s a niche product and it works brilliantly at removing old wax lightly polishing and setting you up for decontamination before polishing. It’s the only thing I use it for. And it’s how Meguiar’s should have marketed it because there is going to be a lot of people who inadvertently strip their wax off and micro-abrade their paint.
@JamesLS3

great video. Im going to try this out. As a professional collision/body shop detailer, I look for ways on cutting down the time I spend decontaminating paint that has years of neglect so I can put a wheel to it. Going through steps such as clay, iron remover, tar remover, paint thinner/ adhesive "citrus" remover, any product that can combine any of those is worth a shot. I can't see 90% of people out there finding a need for this. It makes me uneasy how Meguiars branded and labeled the product being that I see it as such a niche use as you mentioned. They should have advertised as a reset decontamination "clay-ish" shampoo and I would be even more excited. Your views are spot on here man!

I think the fact that it CAN remove LSPs makes this product a must have for me personally. I am surprised it is capable of that Jon so now excited to try this myself. I see it as a decontamination shampoo and it seems to work reasonably well at that so looks like Megs are onto a winner. I do agree with you that the marketing for it is way off the mark though.

Would love to see you play with this stuff and upload a conclusion to its purpose and personal opinion on suitable instructions. Like doing another test panel, clean it properly first and test the ability to decontaminate vs. clay bar or clay towels, a test panel to check if this actually adds scratches to a polished surface (effectively limiting its use to pre-correction scenarios only if so). Great work! Love watching your videos.

I hate washing my van, in fact I realised it had been over a year, so yesterday I gave this stuff a go and it did a good job. Had to get something into the bottle to mix it up because it does separate. Took a couple of hours giving the van a good clean. The shampoo suds up very well and I like the way you do one bit at a time and then rinse the mitt and panel with the hose. Day two effort today with a clay mitt and then waxed and buffed by hand. Still to do the interior!

I think it's for the person doing a quickie wash at a self-cleaning car wash. Don't even need a bucket. I have used it on the lower rocket panels, when a regular car soap isn't cleaning well. Didn't think about cleaning glass, great idea John.

I remember watching this quite some time ago and after having used it for the third or fourth time on my own car, I can agree with your findings on the stripping power of this product vs wax. It stripped my layer of super resin polish and my go to wax, which is known for its durability both real world and chemically. That actually caught me by surprise. All the hidden imperfections SRP masked and the water beading from the wax vanished completed, and that in of itself was mighty impressive for a wash product. Couldn't agree more on the ability to clean glass very well. If you were to wash your glass with this and use a product like Gyeon Wet Coat or CarPro Hydro2 (or Lite) on the glass itself, rinse that off thoroughly, you then don't have to worry about fighting soapy stains or water marks that you may normally have to deal with having washed all the other panels and rinsed them - I find glass is the worst for soapy stains. Thanks again for this video, Jon!

I use this along with Purple Power RV/Boat/Vehicle wash and Clean slate simultaneously for stripping wax/sealant. I use PP and CS in foam cannon first and rinse. I use PP and CS in a bucket and keep it in my mitt and add the Meguiar's as I do each panel. Usually one wash gets the paint flat again. It is helpful. Thank you for the video.

Have been using this for a while used to have to buy it from the states, but it’s now over here. As you say caution is key with this and is not stated well in the the instructions, the surface needs to be as clean as poss before using certainly pre washed. I hadn’t realised it stripped off wax as much as you say though so that is now also noted. Will be excellent for the next strip back in the summer.

I think it's a great product but for a very niche purpose. It's a nice 'bang for your buck' claybar treatment within a soap which is great cause usually after claybar you're going to have to polish the car to get the paintwork up to snuff. However, this in combination with an Iron remover means you get somewhat of a similar result as claybar without having to polish the car after, which is great for people who don't want a very comprehensive detail on their car

Sounds like a good Shampoo to use before going out and polish your car, could potentially remove the need to clay bar your car, saving some time, it is indeed, hummm, interesting! I can see me using it in my wife´s car, it is a van that sits outside, my wife don´t take proper care of the car so I use Fuso Wax, the strong stuff to protect a little from the enviroment, bird crap, etc... I apply it once every season (the car is barely cleaned once a month...), so 4 times a year and I don´t realy care if the car needs polishing or not to remove marks, it is not going to be showroom car, I just need the protection that prevents the paint from cracking and fading over time as we intend to keep the car for years to come, so, I think I may try this product to wash that car before the application of this wax.

Now you see, this kind of product may work in a sunshine state like florida where dirt to their cars is actually like dust on ours, therefore a rinse will work before using the product. Where as here in the UK dirt is a lot more damaging and road film is not removed by simple rinsing. The product is certainly not suitable for a detailer, but it delivers for someone looking for an effective cleaner as the abrasive will take a lot off. for the general public clean but scratched paint is still clean paint.

Sounds like to me you would use this after already cleaning the car with regular shampoo but before tackling with a claybar and chemical decontamination process. In that respect I can see a use for it but I wouldn't be using it on a dirty panel, in the same respect as greaselightening / Williams product which doesn't require water but they say it will clean a dirty car

This product is quickly becoming popular as a wax/sealant stripping product. Great product if Your into detailing and know how to use it. But agree with Your reasoning that it will scratch and damage if used per instructions on a dirty car. Good warning there for the general car owner.But this is nothing new, products like this e.g. shampoos with abrasives have been around for a long time. Usually called "cleaner shampoo" or "super wash" or something. Sometimes also with some protection in the mix. As one example also Sonax has this in their range; Sonax WaschPolitur = Wash polish. Thanks for yet another great vid Cheers

Question for you auto Gym glass polish can it be used safely on the inside of the rear window due to the demising lines and also with HID type windscreens on the inside can it be used due to the factory blackout areas etc. The car panel would not be squeaking at all if it had a good coating of polish over it even if it was wet, i use my rubber gloves and see it the rubber gloves stick to the panels at all ? I think this is reading too much into it, but at the same time its good to point out the issues in instructions when for the most part most people with good cars pay other people to detail it, but for the normal person at home like me, i use the 3 step process, 1. evaluate the paint surface and determine which is best, ie: Just go over it with a waterless detailer, or Wash it with a good wax or mild soap and microfiber hand mit and then dry it off with air pressure. 2. Use a spray of wax or quick detailer spray. 3. make sure any slight swirls are removed by swirl remover and then do the rest of the car ie: rims, tyres and glass and inside the car as well, The outside glass areas will have wax on it and thats the main reason why you get swirls, so basically using a glass polish paste like auto gym is the best, which removes any wax etc and also you can see which areas you have done as well,the same on the inside of the glass ?

I would like to see some additional testing, specifically; 1-On a corrected, clean panel, does the product leave micromarring 2-Wash a dirty panel with it, then hit the panel with a fallout remover. Did the Megs remove the fallout or was a significant portion left behind? 3-Wash a dirty panel with it, then clay bar the panel. How much contamination was left and picked up with the clay? 4-How does it fare vs bugs. We have a lot of them here and I haven't found a magic bullet for them other than scrubbing with a bug sponge.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
1) the product does not micromarr.. if any product did this it would be a momumental turkey. 2) not sure what this test is proving? 3) that could be interesting. I think you would need a really heavily contaminated panel. I dont think megs wash plus will strip much contaminant. A little bit. 4) It helps a little bit with stuck on crap.. but to be honest. its not solving the bug removal problem because of the abraives. the contact with the mitt is the thing with shifts the crap off more than the abrasives.
@TheNotimprezed

@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
you raised some good points. I didnt say hello either sorry. I get into the habbit of flying through the comments firing off answers without saying hello :) its ability to remove bonded contaminants is pretty minimal imo.. very hard to say.. but if you had a visable spot of tar on your car and you tried to scrub it off with this.. you would fail. It will help lift the stuff that you generally cant see that makes the paint feel rough.. so it will do a bit of very light decon generally.

I havent used this as its not available to me but I see this as a product to strip old LSP and prep paint for new sealants or waxes. For someone who likes trying new stuff all the time this would be a very usefull product on cars that are very well maintained. I would however not use it as a wash shampoo (I would still wash the car in a more traditional way and use Megs wash + after wash to strip the old wax and prepare paint for new). BTW you can make your own abrasive car shampoo. Just mix a bit of finishing polish and a pure shampoo and it will work similar to Megs wash plus.

Today with much more hindsight, meguiar's wash plus ➕ is a great shampoo when used a little differently from meguiar's direction!. Example for a complete decontamination it is an excellent base. You need a good prewash (snow foam or apc), a good rinse to remove as much debris as possible, road film, etc. A ferrous decontamination step, rinsing. And right now it's a great shampoo. Because it effectively erases wax, sealant, spray, a test on the xaronfr channel even managed to remove a certain amount of ceramic by insisting a little with the glove and the shampoo. Too bad meguiar's discontinued it, because it really is a great decontamination shampoo before the other steps to put on a coating. Even for the mechanical decontamination step with clay bar, using meguiar's wash plus can then help the clay bar to have fewer things to remove.

It would be very "INTERESTING" if you washed and dried that test panel half with the wash+ and the other half in the "safest way"you see fit and compared the results. The reason is I've tried so many times to correct paint and no matter how carful I wash it end up with swirls (maybe is me...)now I just wash carefully and correct once a year a lot less stressful.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
it would yer.. I think may well correct up the bonnet. but a line of tape with a raised folder in the tape line. wash one half with a safe method a good mitt etc.. wash the other half by rinsing and using this product as described. thing is its not going to show anything people dont already know. If you work dirt over your paintwork you generally scratch it. the mitt choice plays an important role as well. pre wash important too.. pressure from a pressure washer can be important

Forensic Detailing Channel I I wash my car very carefully and light swirls always came up eventually, actually I've bought the wash+ a month ago and also noticed my (never ending high definition wax tube) being removed from the paint now I end my weekly wash with Meguiars fast finish so protection is always there

I used Meguiars WPS to wash my car with a buck full of water and foam first then rinsed. Then I washed again applying it directly to the mitt scrubbed with medium pressure and rinsed. I am convinced it removed some very sharp bonded contaminates. It does strip wax it is not a maintenance wash product. I clay barred after and my clay step went much quicker. My plan is to machine polish then wax. I agree I would not use it again unless I am intent on waxing that cycle. I will bring out and use it for windows anytime.

agree david, I use it for my intense cleaning. problem is meguiars interface with the wider market. This product is actually very usefull for the small niche market as more of a decon preperation wash.. helpfull for removing product, old waxes etc. really getting at the paintwork. they created a vision for it to present to the wider market. you can see that vision in their advert video for it. It would have scared a lot of people off if the product decription talked about removing protection etc.. dunno but I would have loved them to define it in a way that meant people could actually utilise it properly even if they meant they sold less. easy for me to say though.

On just about any product I first test it out on a clear glass panel. Any harm or mess the product is going to do will show up plainly. Now glass is harder than clear coat. So if you like you can also use a sheet of glass that has been treated with protective coating. I use a discarded windshield with just such a coating.

Do you think this product is removing wash mitt induced scratching real time. I personally see this as the future. They can formulate the polish to counter the dirt based scratches real time.

I know the main feature that Meguiar's is marketing with this soap is the ability to put it directly on a wash mitt. I too was skeptical when I first saw this and it's that skepticism that has kept me away. The process just makes me nervous. However, I haven't seen anyone on RU-vid use the option with the bucket at 1 ounce per gallon.

Very interesting Video. I would use it to get harder polymer coatings of the paint. For that purpose is it a good product. But on the other hand am I asking myself if you can't mix such a product yourself by using a cheap shampoo a little bit of polish product.

Hello Forensic, i try this wash plus. It cleans well, no wax on the paint 👍 But recently i see very few carbon mat parts of my car become little shiny. This abrasive shampo could be the guilty ? There is micro polishing agents on it right ? If it they must said to not use on mat finish...

A must have for me. I use it all the time on customer cars. Often times people have no idea what is on their paint as far as protection is concerned. This absolutely cuts down the amount of claying needed ( doesn't eliminate claying totally of course ) and does a good job of stripping protection. For a pro detailer this is a time saver. Glad you also mentioned its glass cleaning power. Any time I can use one product versus 3 or more that's a win for me.

For the car in close to perfect condition. Polished 3kkm ago. Can I use it to strip wax instead of cleaner? I do not want to do cleaner work couse Id go for a quick mashine work and then pick fininis polish becaouse why not, then seeing any love mark would switch to harsher compound and here I am fighting 10hrs+ to have a fresh wax :D Id do a proper throught contact wash first with other shampoo and then wash once again with megs to get stripping done.

Interesting that it's got a higher PH to strip wax, but did it strip of the ceramic coatings that you applied to that panel? Also, I think that ceramic coatings are harder like 9H over regular clear coatings so there should not have been those micro scratchings and swirls marks as that's the point of ceramic coatings right? Or is the Meguiars just too abrasive ?
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
its the abrasives that are doing the stripping mainly chris, Im not sure what PH it is. I would not use this product a car with a ceramic coating for sure.

May be using on a new car for getting rid of any waxes or sealants as the step before claying and or polishing rather than the initial wash

As somebody who has a bit of a mental block when it comes to claying (I've never done it) I'm thinking along these lines -. 2 bucket method car wash, rinse, then apply this product to an already clean car prior to polish - in short a substitute for clay?

@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
At the moment you have to ship them in to the UK from the USA which is not viable for most people cost wise, no doubt at some point they will become available in the UK through a distributor and we can take a look at them. but I also need to try them as well to see if I get on with them. I try and limit the brand reviews to explore the ranges of companies who's products Ive used and have in the mega tests or just generally. pretty sure they would be very good products. word on the street is good.

Really I see this product as an alternative “wet method” to what Dodo Lime Prime Lite does. A paint cleaner that strips wax ready for fresh coating. However, no way would you use that as a direct first wash and only wash stage. You’d have to citrus pre-wash/foam then incorporate a normal shampoo and rinse stage before then applying this. Is it the case that once you’ve done that you could by pass the paint cleaning stage and go straight to wax re-application? As you say Jon this may appeal to some people who want a quick detailing prep for wax without using machine polishers and pre-wax cleaning products. Somehow I think the genuine enthusiast will not go for this and stay with the tried and trusted methods which have proved themselves to be reliable.
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
I have not tested sealants against it.. but I had a week old durability wax on the car and it was gone after a good scrub with this... how much you scrub will effect its ability to strip.. but I think it will easily strip the old reminants of most sealants and waxes.. It wont be as thourough as an abrasive pre wax cleanser on a machine polisher though.. but good enough for most scenarios to them go on and lay down a sealant or wax.

sounds like its good for cars before correction. perfect to speed up clay barring because this removes a lot more dirt before you clay. this will be my go to on cars with paint that requires clay and correction.
@mattmilford4202

This has a place I think. Carry out a full pre wash as you normally would ie citrus, rinse, foam and rinse again before the bucket washesYou could then use this instead of clay for a decon. Obviously fallout and tar prior to it but I’d also be interested to see what damage it would do to a ceramic
@ForensicDetailing
@ForensicDetailing 6 лет назад
so would I matt.. I dont think its good to use this on a coated car. It wont strip a ceramic but depending on how much you scrub it might well degrade it a fair bit. guessing though.

I think Megs have missed a trick with this product because it’s aimed at the retail market, and the method they state is not good to say the least - Effectively grinding dirt and product into the paint work. If used on a properly washed and deconed car it is very effective at removing waxes and sealant for a new LSP - perhaps that is where they should have focused their marketing?
