I know right. Been to the panthers stadium many times. Its is far from Decrepit. Their is no reason for a new stadium, its a football stadium for football fans. This isn't FedEx field. The city isn't big enough to host a super bowl. Their is no reason to spend billions on a stadium at this time. Maybe if the second richest owner in the NFL wants one so badly he should pay for it himself.
@CaptRR bro, I live in DC but have been to a few of the ACC chip games so I've seen both. Also been to ravens stadium & steelers stadium. FedEx is decrepit. BOA has fan experience & sight lines comparable to the other 2. So I guess all 4 must be decrepit according to this guy.....
@@CaptRR Charlotte is more than big enough to host the SB. Charlotte is 3 times the size of New Orleans and how many times has New Orleans held the game?
Could not agree more. There is not one single argument for tax payer funding money. They don’t create jobs, phony argument, they don’t create more revenue for the cities, phony argument, they don’t do anything except put more money into the pocket of the owners.
@@zch7491 So let them move. Spending billions to keep a team for 8 games a year is absurd. there are a limited number of cities that really will fork over billions of tax payer money for a new stadium. They might talk a good deal but getting approval from the voters is another thing. The move threat post vegas is done. Vegas was litterly the on of few cities willing to put up the money because they have revenue coming in from gabling and other out of town people to pay for it. Utah will not vote to use tax payer money, Kansas talks a good game but has not gotten any approval from the voters who have already turned down the Chiefs and Royals a number of times. The move is an empty threat and even if they do move so what. Cities are better off without the billions hanging over them for the most part.
@@willis5605sport fans and media are delusional. People are up to their eyeballs paying their mortgages and property taxes and they are struggling with this economy. These stadium fanatics in north america could all go to hell
@@GoalHornGeek Raleigh and Durham is the same area. But yeah you could go to those other places but I think Raleigh is more built for another professional sports team and they wouldn't hesitate to give Tepper what he wants.
Not entirely true. Europe just funds them differently but owners still get hand outs. New Stadium in London got grants and other government backing. Europe uses grants which is the same thing as cities issuing Bonds. Also in Europe most projects are smaller because soccer stadium typically max out at 19 or 20K seats not 60 K like NFL. So it’s apples and oranges.
Because USA has more places to relocate a team to. Europe teams don't. So they can't leverage a city or metropolitan area to finance. Also Europe is dozens upon dozens of countries. While USA is massive in land size. Europe teams rarely leave their country to play in another European country anyway. Because of USAs it's massive size has more metropolitan areas than any one European nation has. Europe is population is condensed into cities. While USA has spread out population in dozens upon dozens of metropolitan areas who all want teams and try to outbid other metropolitan areas for teams
There is nothing wrong with that stadium. It could last 200 years with maintenance. 50 years is nothing, in comparison. Seriously, shouldn't Wrigley Field and Fenway Park been gone a long time ago according to this guy's logic?
Nothing wrong with the current stadium. It is an outdoor stadium with suites, club boxes, and plenty of concessions. It is a place to watch a game doesn’t have to be a space station.
Not gonna lie I like this stadium, mainly because it’s downtown and has the surrounding skyscrapers. I like the enclosed look too here. They could renovate the box seats and maybe add a small roof
Doesn't really need a roof. This in Charlotte, NC, its not an extreme weather state. Yeah you get rain sometimes, but the panthers stadium is fine. Maybe the team could get some support if they put a better product on the field.
I go to ACC chip games whenever FSU is there. Plus I been to NFL games at Pittsburgh Baltimore DC too. If panthers need a new one then they all do by his logic. BOA is a really good venue for football. This sounds like greed to me
There is no reason to build new stadiums every 25-30 years. Unless there is something structurally wrong with this stadium, let it ride. The playing surface is fine. The seats for the ordinary fans are fine. Make the necessary repairs & keep going.
This is why I don’t get why the Metrodome and Georgia Dome got replaced. They were only 25-30 years old too. I know the Metrodome had that troubled bubble roof but that could’ve been fixed ?
The issue is they can't trust and HATE David Tepper. Especially considering what happened in SC. Tepper Tantrum represents everything the Carolinas dislikes about having an outsider as an owner. Tepper is a jerk who also condescending and believes he somehow brought modernity and "live music" the Carolinas. The issue is Charlotte Metro area has grown so much especially from annexation and is under perpetual building projects. People are already tired of the constant construction and beginning to feel crowded with hordes of people moving in. The Bank of America stadium is in a perfect location. But it seems impractical to do what really needs to be done...rebuild it as a Superbowl eligible state of the art domed stadium for multipurpose events.
Lambeau Feild in Green Bay has been around for 67 years and is not going anywhere. Highmark Stadium in Buffalo is old but I understand why they are building a new one. Since I think there are cracks in the stadium and as an open air stadium in buffalo with its Age I don’t know how much time it would have left to be honest.
@@noaho8457Green Bay will start talking about a new stadium is a few years. They have to keep up with the JJ of the wold. They will start to fall behind in revenue more and more as other teams get new buildings. Green Bay is maxed out with the revenue they can get, they can only either stay about the same or fall. They will want something new soon as contracts and other things continue to get more expensive.
DG, I respect you, but have you actually been to BOA stadium? Its not a "decrepit" stadium as you put it. Its been taken good care of since it was built, it has plenty of seating capacity, and is in a great location. You entire video makes the stadium sound like FedEx field, or some 80 year old Div 2 college stadium. Yeah its not a billion dollar mega stadium, but the charlotte doesn't really need one of those. They are not going to get a super bowl, and with the spectrum center down the road their are few events that can use the field size and seating capacity other than football or soccer. If Tepper wants a new stadium so bad, he can build it himself. Hell the guy won't even pay for his own practice facilities.
What's ironic to your statement is that the tax payers will pay. The tax payers are the voters and they vote for it nearly every single time. The few situations where they didn't vote on it, it was up to the elected officials (who the tax payers voted to make decisions for them) who then allowed tax money to be used. If you disagree with it, like many people do then vote for change.
He obviously has never been to the overwhelming majority, if not all, of the venues he talks about. His perception of what stadiums should look like is embarrassingly unsophisticated. Like seriously, it's as if his entire opinion is a second-hand regurgitation of someone else's work. Why should it be necessary to leave an endzone open? "Walls of seats" are bad...why?
I bet Roger's regretting bringing Tepper into the NFL fold. Mr. Richardson had his issues for sure, but Tepper is just a disaster that I feel bad for Panthers fans.
@@LoweDown414 Richardson would never relocate the panthers. Yeah he had his problems, but bringing in a Hedge fund manager was never going to work out well for the city.
Sounds like ownership is half-baking this plan so they can tell the fans “We tried, it’s Charlotte’s fault…” as they walk out the door to a brand new stadium and better deal in San Antonio or somewhere else.
Reminder that the Nashville "Public" money will not cost anything to residents. It's all tax increases to hospitality industry like hotels and ticket sales. CLT doesn't really get the tourism we do here in Nash, would be a harder sell.
Well, you have David Tepper throwing drinks on people during the games.... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for 2 billion of public funding..... David Tepper better take a chunk out of his massive personal wealth and go full Robert Kraft.... Buy land outside of town, build your own stadium, you run the show, you answer to no one.... Problem solved.
Since you mentioned it. This is actually good news for the ACC. Before getting its first professional teams, the Charlotte Hornets in 1988 and the Carolina Panthers in 1995, the Carolinas relied on the ACC, NASCAR, and minor league baseball for live sports entertainment. North Carolina has pushed out team owners before, like George Shinn. I can't see anyone in Charlotte allowing the risk of losing the Panthers and the ACC at the same time after paying millions.
If they're spending $800M they need to put a roof on it and make it suitable for other large events. Then you could justify 10-15 years of additional life.
Why?? The voters did exactly what everybody wants them to do. They said no public money. The people spoke and the team listened. No public money means the team will leave for another city or situation where someone else will pay for it.
@@ArizonaHotSauce out of the 3.9 million that live in the metro, only 42 k that live in downtown got to vote. The Stadium was all public founded by those that live only in downtown and had an unnecessary dome. 99.7 of the fans live outside of downtown. Deano threatened to move many times and never put together a proper bill for the stadium. I appreciate your opinion, but it's not a good one. Look at facts before commenting.
@@bchillbong-uf2ioIt's Commiefornia. Who cares? LA is only a couple hours away. It's not like they were the only team in that State. Just cheer for LA.
Great idea. Nope. The public (tax payers) will continue to pay. If you disagree, then vote for change. And the few times, when the voters did their part and voted against the use of public funds, the team left. Too easy. Then again, nobody wants the team to leave.
DG, the vote is gonna pass. It’s not a public referendum, the city council is voting Yes/No. THE CAROLINA PANTHERS are not relocating…… i know you want engagement, but c’mon man!
“Clownacy!” Haha! Did you make that up? That’s a new one! I read somewhere that any relocation is likely to be intra-regional, for instance, the Panthers could be pulled to a suburb outside of Charlotte like Kannapolis.
carolina’s stadium definitely isn’t perfect but it’s in a decent location with a nice view of the skyline, it just gets blocked by a giant wall of blue seats. i think they gotta worry about the product on the field first tho
Now the one thing in all of your videos you were not considering is that this money has to be spent. It is part of the North Carolina state budget so it has to be spent on a venue like this.
@@user-wk1qx7rn9c yes it is part of the state budget and a food tax that was extended by the state legislator earlier this year so as being part of the state budget, it has to be spent. It’s in the North Carolina constitution.
If people are paying for it through taxes then ticket prices do not go over $150 per ticket anywhere in the stadium. And suits, that’s a different story.
Everyone in here saying DG is overly picky or too dramatic need to chill. I’ve been to the current stadium and compared to other stadiums I’ve been to, it is very lackluster. Lot of panthers fans in these comments hating just because someone criticized their stadium seems like
They should fallow the original plan of KC's with a totally sep dome from the actual stadium for all these new stadiums. That way you only have to pay for half at a time. The dome could be completely repurposed if the football team goes away. You couldl put a factory under it or something. 25 yrs or even 50 for a building is CRAZY.
I have attended several stadiums and the Panther's stadium is certainly not nearly one of the worst or anywhere nearly decrepit. You obviously haven't been to to BOA stadium. Fun fact, the iconic Roman Coliseum was used for 1,500 years, so I would think 30 years or so should be very doable and smart!!! Charlotte doesn't even need a dingy depressing dome anyway as winters in Charlotte are milder and much better than the colder winters of Nashville for example.
This was the first PSL stadium. No way a bad team gets the numbers to sell enough PSLs now. Plus the current PSL people will lose their seats and who will buy the 70k tickets every year?
You seem to think money grows on trees. Building a new stadium to copycat the other owners is probably a minimum of $3billion. Thinking that governments should continually build new stadiums every 25 years is ludicrous and unsustainable. It isn't only one stadium. You have to build them for baseball and basketball too. Ticket prices are already unaffordable to most people and you think these people who can't afford tickets to games should subsidize rich people's parties. I say this as a huge football fan. It is time that this stuff gets reined in.
I know right? The stadium is far from decrepit. Acting like this is fedex field is ignorant. The stadium is a good stadium. No its not a billion dollar tax payer funded stadium, that is not used most of the time. Also their is no reason to put billions into a new stadium, when the city doesn't have the hotel space to host the super bowl.
Now I can understand if you were in the FedEx Field situation.... But no that is not the situation in Charlotte... I mean like at FedEx field with the unsanitary conditions in the restrooms and I could understand if the concessions were horrible..... What in your opinion makes this stadium so unlikable?
First off, you are way too picky. The proposed new Chiefs stadium looks cool and nothing like anything else, but yet, you think it's unimaginative or whatever. Yes, Panther's stadium does look ordinary in many respects, but if the Panthers were a Chiefs-like dynasty, fans wouldn't care. Now, as to this situation; this is quite silly as you allude to, and I would highly doubt the city will go for it. San Antonio Panthers anyone?
PSL owner from the beginning... there's nothing wrong with the stadium. Location is great. Condition is still very good. Worst seats in the house (like mine, lol) still have great sight lines. Open end zone stadiums are the weird and ugly ones... they always look like they ran out of money and couldn't finish it.
Ahhh, the Carolina Panthers. The team that couldn’t afford to play anywhere, so they screwed their brand new fans into paying for it by inventing the PSL. Ruined sports forever.
@@michaelleroy9281 Texas is bigger than Florida in economy, population and landmass. Florida supports three teams. This Texas isn’t big enough for three teams argument doesn’t work.
Tepper wants team to be in Europe. He’s the worst owner in the league by a country mile. Also, I’m from Charlotte and it’s one of the worst sports towns ever. The Hornets and Panthers both suck.
At least the spectrum center makes sense, since it can host so many events. I don't see the point of spending a billion dollars of tax payer money for something that will be mainly used for a few home football and soccer games, and some occasional event that can actually use that seating capacity.
@@40EastTrill they play in Germany this coming season. Tepper knows he can make a ton more and get them to give him everything he wants. Plus, the NFL wants to expand to Europe. The package that’ll be offered will be to good to turn down. Unlike you I know people who know Tepper and he loves Germany. No disrespect to my team but that upgrade looks 🗑️ a upgrade bank of America stadium with canopy or hell I can't believe I'm saying but a retractable roof
Have you ever even been to any of these stadiums you talk about? The one getting the retro fit in Jacksonville is way, WAY worse than the one in Carolina.
Worse? The rendering for the Jags stadium looks awesome! Getting a transparent state of the art roof. A wind catching design that will create way cooler temps in the stands. Using a product that surrounds the stadium but is transparent like sun glasses so you can see out while reducing UV rays. 2x wider concourses. Updated box seats. Updated seats throughout the entire stadium. Press button seat expansion for FL/GA game. For only $1.4bill. That's far more than what the Panthers are showing. Their rendering is bland as hell and will not hold up the next 10yrs given these other renovated or new stadiums. Guarantee if the city approves it the NFL will say.....no.
@@user-fj5os6jw4o polishing a turd? Lmao its a full renovation.
