The parent perspective was provided by the mother of a second grader who had a stroke in utero.
The professional perspective offered by Meredith Wishart, M.Ed, Director of Special Education at Salem Academy Charter School.
Learn what to expect as you navigate special education and related services in the public school system. Educator, Meredith Wishart, will talk about how children in the United States gain access to specialized instruction and services necessary to access their school curriculum. She explains the evaluation process, as well as the differences between an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) and 504 plans. Meredith introduces the concepts that apply broadly to all states, then highlights examples from a couple of states. The session ends with some questions and answers to help families better understand how to partner with your local school district.
