I met him at Sylvia Restaurant in Harlem when I was 13 years old. Me and my friends were gushing bc we all watched the soaps, and he was so handsome. He was so nice and patient with us. I mean, we were a bunch of young teenagers interrupting his meal, but you couldn't tell. He took pictures and everything. May this kind soul Rest in Heavenly Peace 🙏🏾
I remember when Kristoff and his wife went on the Steve Harvey talk show talking about his son's suicide death. Kristoff was very down and sad, crying on the show. I also saw that tribute to him on The Young and The Restless last year. They show many memories/clips of him throughout the years on that Soap Op.
Kristoff was *so kind* to me and everyone else. I only barely knew him, but he always had a kind or encouraging word. I still think of him so often. His heart was broken after his beautiful son died so senselessly. That was unbearable to Kristoff. That’s so clear. May be be free in eternal peace, reunited with his firstborn child.
I know firsthand about the loss of a child. I lost my youngest daughter 15 years ago at birth. He said something that is true. The grief process of grieving a child begins at the child's passing and ends on the day the parent joins them. I still grieve her 15 years later, but I know I will eventually see her....
I lost my daughter when she was 19 from breast cancer. She was the baby. We was very close. It's been 15 years and I miss her every day. Was my heart goes out to you.

Thank you for covering this! I had no idea this man is now deceased. I didn't watch the stories but elder women in my family did. As a spiritually intuitive woman, I sense that there was a curse put on this man's family for leaving that Indian cult and then later exposing it. Mental illness is more than just genetics or a chemical imbalance. There is always a spirit behind it. Whether you believe in things like that or not, it can still affect you. Kristoff was an ultra talented actor and man. I had the pleasure of hanging with him a bit early in my career on GENERATIONS. It was the last time I did EXTRA WORK and later had lines on the show. Very gracious and kind. We used to talk back then on set. Good brother 🙏🏿🙏🏿

Kristoff has been around for a looonnng time. I remember him in Roots. He was in the Bad News Bears with Nina from Y&R, with her bad-built self. I even remember him in the show Flip Wilson and Gladys Knight had. He was the older brother and Jaleel White was the baby brother. I forgot what the sister's name was. I haven't seen her in anything since. It was SHOCKING when he passed away !!! If you born after 1965, you grew up with Kristoff's characters. But he will always be Neal Winters to me. R.I.P. indeed. I’m so glad you did a story on Kristoff St. John . Very sad but accurate. He really struggled after the passing of his son. I loved his character in the Young and the Restless. I started watching the Young and The Restless as a little girl my late grandmother and a late aunt watched every single day for decades. He is missed and loved. I remember watching that movie back in the day and I agree that he died from a broken heart. His son was the spitting image of him and it's a shame they're both gone waaaaaaaaay too soon.
Young and the Restless even made his struggles a storyline. The drinking, the depression. You could see in his apperance. The staff said he would come to set drunk, was unkempt so they just wrote it in his storyline. You can see it in some of the pics during the video. Rest in peace, Kristoff & Julian. Together again!
I remember reading somewhere that the cast and crew of the Y&R tried to protect him because they knew he was going through something but didn’t want to turn their backs on him at the time they were actually like a second family

I recall either reading in a magazine or online, where he was saying how his stepdad was blocking or trying to block his relationship with his mother and didn't allow him to come to her funeral, which was trifling!! I think other abuses were mentioned and I wonder if that caused him to become Bipolar, or if it was genetic. I recall a scene on Y & R where he and his mom (played by Nichelle Nichols, if I recall correctly) reconciled and she passed while he was there and the way he was reacting, didn't feel like it was just another day at the office - it felt like he was getting his chance to say goodbye to his mom the way he should have been allowed to, without outside interference.

We all were. It seemed like it came out of left field. I was expecting him to be like Victor and Nikki Newman, Catherine Chancellor - longevity into his senior years but alas, it wasn't meant to be 😢😢
My 24 year old Son committed suicide December 13 2021 an I too have thought about it because this pain hurts to my soul. Not to mention my dad passed November 13 2021. I miss my dad too but my baby my son smh I can’t even explain this feeling. I’m currently seeing a psychiatrist An is on medication. Prayers to those who suffer from mental illness or any other silent killer.

The grandmothers, mothers, 80s kids, 90s kids, and some 00s kids. It really hurt me, because I had a soft spot for Neil Winters. Every episode, I’ll be like don’t mess with Neil, right or wrong. I knew why now why I did have a soft spot for him
I started watching Y&R in 1982 and I watch it to this day. I loved Kristoff’s portrayal of Neil. I loved Dru and the whole Winters family. Those of us who watch soaps are very protective of the characters and the actors who play those characters. I didn’t see how on earth he could go to work on a show that deals with a lot of heavy issues after losing a child. That event would kill me. When I heard of his passing, I was brokenhearted again. To this day, his loss is felt by innumerable people. I appreciate how Y&R still pays homage to him as the father of Lily and Devon, & as a member of the Genoa City community.
I believe him about parents NEVER getting over the loss of a child. My big brother died in 1988 my mother NEVER FORGOT about the day it happened she would be so depressed when August 18 came around every year until she passed away in 2020.
yea it’s extremely hard and people don’t understand. My daughter was killed two years ago and i stuffer on holidays , mother’s day, day she was killed . It’s not easy but I pray . Sorry for your loss .

This guy was my BROTHER… He was extremely selfless, thoughtful, and had an amazing heart… What I loved most about him was he set his troubles aside to help me with things I was going through in my life… I thank GOD for the time I had him on this earth….

He was a great little child actor. Acting in Happy Days. What a great episode. I loved him in The Bad News Bears. I loved Generations. My mom and I watched it together. She had us girls watching soap operas “stories” with her growing up. It was generational back then. My 22 year old daughter hates soap operas today. 😂 What a sad story. Yes it is.

His daughter Paris was arrested this year for public nudity in a supermarket. I think it goes beyond just a broken heart. This seems like generational mental illness. Mia’s proximity to Kristoff is what affected her as well.
He had an extraordinary career in acting and I love when he played Neal in Young and The Restless and the movie Trois 2 Pandoras Box and he Played One of my favorite episodes of the Jamie Foxx show when he was Fancy's Date and played as a Police Officer Name Morris.

Kristoff was an outstanding actor and brought so much dignity to the presence of Black male characters on television. I was not too fond of the sporadic tribute dedicated to him on Young & The Restless. He was a pivotal character in the series and along with Victoria Rowell & Shemar Moore, they helped to solidify the dignified images of successful Blacks in daytime television. I remember Kristoff on Roots The Next Generation and in the television special, Sister, Sister. Starring Dihann Carroll, Irene Cara, and Rosalind Cash. He was a phenomenal actor who died a tragic death.

They could have devoted a week-long tribute, celebrating his impact on that series by sharing some of his best scenes with the other characters. Instead, they just showed quick clips of him and his interaction with other cast members. It was disappointing. As was his abrupt death on the show.

I guess they figured doing it that way would calm people down. I do recall a blurb or some post Y&R did where it said, "We hear/heard you, we're working on it" or something to that effect. We did NOT play about Neil and folks let Y&R know that
@@lepoetress The way they injected his abrupt death into the storyline was quite disappointing as well. Devon, his adopted son goes upstairs and then walks back down with a sullen look on his face. They never really explained how he died and it just added to the swift decline of the daytime program.

Very, very heartbreaking. I feel psychiatric institutions should have their "services" immediately ended when multiple instances of neglect and patient mistreatment are investigated. Too many people don't take mental illness serious enough. Hugs💚 to both the son and father.
We as a society don't take it seriously. We chastise folks, calling them weak, lazy, looking for sympathy and if they just put their minds to it, they could overcome this. Until we see mental illness seriously, people will needlessly suffer.🙏🙏♥️

Very well done, moving and inspirational despite the tragedy. Mental illness is hard enough without such tragic and preventable losses. I watched Kristoff throughout his tenure as Neil Winters and after the loss of Julian he lost the light in his eyes. He was struggling and while still a wonderful actor those who had watched him for years and years could see it. I hope he and Julian are at peace and with the angels. May Mia continue to find strength until they welcome her many years from now. Such a tragic story.
My teacher used to send me home in the third grade to watch the Y & R and come back and tell her what happened. The break was used as my lunch and recess break. She chose me because I had great recall. My dad didn’t like it but stay at home mom didn’t mind. I watched that show for years!
His death was so sad and caught everyone off guard. He just could not cope…😢 He did not accidentally drink himself to death. I truly believe, he wanted to go. May he and his baby finally be at peace.

This just appeared in my timeline today, 9/30/23. I had no idea Kristoff was bipolar! I have a friend now whose bipolar & have experienced many days trying to calm her down by talking to her, etc. Well, the talking wasn't enough because she tried to kill herself by overdosing on sleeping pills. But luckily her boyfriend got to her in time & rushed her to the hospital so her stomach could be pumped. She now has found the right amount of meds to "balance" her mood swings. It was a learning experience for me. I wish Kristoff's family strength for their hurt, loss & pain.💕💕💕
