Lovely looking coaches from accurascale with a few problem questions marks on them. More pics and vids added to my facebook page. / northwesttrainsmodels Instagram northwesttrains123
I just bought one of these off eBay for £288. I missed them when new in 2022. I am glad to see this video from you on these as I am excited. I am going to run mine with a Class 92 for fun and games. I will be converting a Class 92 into a GE Class 62 to run with mine. Peter.
Hi Andrew am hopefully getting my new decoder next week as am still having problems with the directional lights going of when the coach moves havent had any free time since i done this video but looking forward to a good running session with them, Tom
@@AndrewH561 ill hopefully do an update video or on the description once ive given a new decoder a try, am hoping that solves the issue, thanks again. Tom
The Nova 3 will be missed. I never personally went on it but there’s just something about the design I find amazing. I’m going to try and go on one before they get axed in december
Sorry for late reply i hope you managed to take a trip on these sets, wonder what livery theyl be in next year if someone takes them on, I only went on one once in january 2020 to go to york for a day out and it was a comfortable journey and very smart coaches, i never had time to go on another trip unfortunately partly because for a year and a half with social distancing and strikes rail travel was a nightmare and they stopped going from liverpool lime street to scarborough for some reason, thanks for watching. Tom
@@northwesttrainsmodels I never got to go on one in the end. At least they will be bought and back in service (hopefully). My best guess for where it would go would be northern but even that is a stretch. At least the model will be around for a while longer. I feel you really persuaded me to buy this at some point. Thanks for the goal of what to save for!
Nice vid. To get the 68 to push I swapped the useless tension lock with Marklin couplers & it runs fine. The 68 in general is useless at coupling up to most things. I glued the front screen on with a tiny tiny amount of superglue applied with a needle on the inside jog the frame & same with the destination panels.
thanks for the info i did put a hunt magnetic coupling on between loco and coach and that seems ok for now but i will look at the markin couplers and it does frustrate me that how good the models look now they cant get basic things like coupling up right i also have the same issue with the hornby class 60 and dapol 59 when pulling bachmann wagons
@@northwesttrainsmodels If youve got any of the Roco couplers that Hornby supply with the SD mk3 coaches they work even better as they stop the droop on the dapol 68. I find the roco couplers work so well on stock thats notorious for not doing as they should.
Hi Tom, they look good and at a bargain price compared with the other manufacturers shame about the lighting but reading Irish 66 changing CV is quite easy cheers Al
Hi Al yes really even with the lighting issue there not bad value the rest of the lighting i cant fault and having the stay alive unit in them is brilliant, i really need to learn how to change cvs and play around with them
Tell people on your channel about R/C GLUE, if you wouldn't mind. I've used it for years and it's also good for sticking card to plastic like stairs etc. Also works well on passengers and crew
I used De Luxe R/C or canopy glue. Small amounts. It doesn't stain and it stays flexible,It also dries crystal clear. I've use it for numerous projects. Hope this helps.
cheers i have some of that for my 009 coach kits for the glazing so ill use that i just wanted to see whether i was missing something first lol, thanks for the info. Tom
Love the set. Not a collector of rolling stock unless limited editions, but in this case, I should have ordered. Love Chris Hunt couplings and have them fitted to all my display stock as well.
They certainly are and oh though they weren't cheap there quite reasonably priced compared to other coaches that are much more basic being released at the moment
cheers i was going to try the deluxe glazing glue i had for my 009 kits but wanted to wait and see what other people did, i was going to use liverpool limestreet as thats the most local to me and the first time i boarded one of these mk5 sets, thanks for the info and for watching. Tom
They certainly went all out on the detail, only criticism from me is the lighting on the driving trailer should have had a stay alive same as the coaches, otherwise there fantastic coaches
Looks good looking to mine arriving soon thanks for the dcc section I've ordered a 6 function 21 pin chip for mine so hopefully can get all the lighting features for me and hope you find you rcab light thanks again
Hi again, just tried my driving coach. Using a 21MTC decoder the directional lights work OK, but they seem very dim. Also, it would have been nice if the directional lights and cab lights were connected the the stay alive capacitor.
Hi Simon thats good that your lights work mine were also quite dim when they did work and i agree to go to all the trouble of having the stay alive on the internal coach lights you think the directional lights wouldnt be a problem but saying that my bachmann dbso or hornby dvt never has a problem with flickering lights without a stay alive so am still not sure on that one, am still waiting to try out another decoder to see if that solves it
I need to get a decoder in my DTSO was waiting for a sound file as quite fancy getting sound in it and my 68 Brutus at the same time, plus cant stand the annoying noise from the blanking plate at the moment
thatl be good let me know what you think of the sound in the driving trailer, i had factory fitted sound in my 68 destroyer, apart from the directional lighting issue on mine am very happy with them, thanks for watching. Tom
I installed imperium 3 chips to my 68 and mk5 dt. The chip has an issue where it instantly illuminates the halo lights on the 68 and the headlights on the DT. Activating f3 turns the headlights off. While it works, it's not ideal. Apart from that, I absolutely love the mk5 set
my halo lights autmatically stay on i presume there connected to the stay alive and interior lights, its the directional lights i still have issue with till i change the decoder in them and see if that helps, thanks for the info and they are fantastic looking coaches
as for dapol, I have the 68 in N gauge and have to swap the buffers over as they foul coach couplings when using bogie mounted couplings, causing the lead coach to ping off the track
i think Dapol make some nice stuff but sometimes miss the basics, ive given up on buying 00 locos from dapol as ive had to many problems with them derailing or the couplers not being the right height and 2 locos have broke on me
Hello, I've ordered some magnetic couplers for my Accurascale cutdown hopper wagons to go with my Class 92. I don't have a massive layout so I've got radius 3 curves. How have you found the magnetic couplings? I know, you mention Hunt Couplings but I was wondering what you thought of the magnetic ones supplied with the coaches.
They work fine on my radius 3 when pulled but pushed they may derail at higher speeds, they should be fine but I did put a magnetic coupler between the coach and loco to prevent derailing
@@northwesttrainsmodels Yeah, would make sense. I’d have to get all 3 since my layout sits on the line between North and Midlands (just above Crewe) with 195 running to Manchester and northern destinations, 196 going down to Stoke and 197 on Manchester-N Wales services
@irishsixtysixfan3263 cheers can you let me know how you get on with yours, I might order one, I've got a gaugemaster one on the way so will try that first
To be honest @£225 for 5 new tooled coaches with lighting and detail/livery at this level is an absolute bargain making each coach £45 each, Hornby & Bachmann would never in your life get near that...no wonder they are all sold out.
that is exactly what i think, if only those lights worked id be just saying wow, but am sure theyl be sorted i was just dreading incase there was something rong with the lighting board but hopefully a different decoder will sort it out, and yes when u think a basic mk1 coach now is close to 50.00 they are very good value and what really makes these quality for me is having the stay alive fitted, theres nothing worse than flickering lights, i think they might have a few for sale when theyve sorted through there pre orders so keep an eye out if your after one
@@northwesttrainsmodels I'm still waiting on my pre-order 2 packs to arrive thus hopefully get them this week. I think Accurascale should have done better for those not wanting to put a decoder in the DT because apparently if you don't you will hear a buzzing sound when running on a DCC layout. Also to operate without chipping the DT Accurascale should have made a provision to switch the DT lights from forward to reverse and vice versa but as seen on yours the lights stay the same in either direction which isn't great...basically you need to to put a decoder in the DT which I don't agree with.
@sapphirejunction8993 your right, I think also they could have provided a dcc fitted option and one complaint I had as well is there is no dcc instructions showing you what the settings are, until I get the other decoder and see if that solves the lighting issue I can't say am totally happy with them, someone also mentioned using a dapol decoder as there good for the lighting but well see, but to answer your first question the driving trailer cannot go on a dcc layout with out a decoder it will make the same noise as a non dcc loco
@@northwesttrainsmodels yes correct on your last point but that's not mentioned anywhere in their product page. They should have added a custom factory fitted decoder to the packs which would also run on DC and I would have been happy to pay an extra £20-£30 for that per pack or about £250 for a pack which would still only be £100 more than Bachmann's single DBSO Coach with decoder. With these highly detailed models now I'm loathe to pull bodies off because of the detail thus try to get DCC fitted or sound fitted when I can and Accurascale have already stated that you shouldn't take the body off too often on the DT as you may lose some detail etc....Hattons Class 66 all over again. The other thing I don't like about these TPE & CS Packs is that you have to apply the destination boards on the DT & Coaches depending whether it is TPE or CS. I would have preferred to have those already applied or like you mentioned to be magnetic rather than having to be glued. Lastly, I remember Accurascale saying that a spare Loco to coach magnetic coupler would be in the detail pack so your Class 68 can connect not using the dreaded tension lock coupler but this didn't materialize or was not added to each pack thus you are stuck with the tension lock to the coach which causes problems. I had to separately order a pack of magnetic bar couplers for £10 from Accurascale to overcome this with my 3 TPE Class 68's so another mis-step from Accurascale in regards to this but not a major issue, just another tenner.
it is a long term plan but first thing is getting a new combi boiler so i no longer need a tank in the loft which takes up the room in the middle on the otherside of the layout once thats gone ill have another 10 feet to play with but i need to stop buying trains and save up for that lol
@@northwesttrainsmodels i had big loft layout back in 2014 2015 it was 23 ft by 13 ihade a youtube channe calleed hornbyboy since then i have move and had to sel loads of new rolling stock i didt get to ues it was all new spend good 20k but now i have move i may jist start up a ene to end to somethink to play with until we move again
Hi Simon mine is currently 14ft by 7ft so not to wide but the overall length of 24 feet will be enough for me eventually and an end to end on dcc can be just as fun, i always like the tmd layouts, good way to display your collection and can have interesting movements around the layout and maybe even squeeze in a small station, it is a shame you had to sell alot of your collection but am sure you will be able to buy back some in time
