The 30mm gun is designed to kill tanks and providing close air support on land warfare. I'm not sure if the air Force have ever used it against ships in real life...
@@udhi_gn3893 thats the whole point of the A-10. to provide Close Air Support (CAS) on friendly ground troops. and this is just a game. the A-10 isn't designed to naval warfare. fighter jets are. there is a big difference. yes the A-10 can maneuver in sketchy situations. and can handle a beating. but fighter jets are more faster and more agile.

I find this mission to be easiest when I'm using the F-117...Which is absurd considering that the Nighthawk is the least maneuverable attacker in the game.

Which is why you fly low to the deck, the RADAR reflection off the water and the waves' tops will cause clutter, that can make it very difficult to track a low flying aircraft. But Doppler RADAR usually can overcome that, but it's never 100%.
Sure you could, if they have a lockable IR signature. Similar to how stinger missiles can fire at ground targets as well. The only problem is that sidewinders and stinger missiles are fast with a pay-load designed to destroy aircraft, so you won't have the same effect against armored vehicles.
@aki2065 You can pick aircraft more suited for Anti-Ship operations for this mission, like the F-2A, the A-10A is just the recommended aircraft for some reason.
I'm not sure who says that; Maybe gamers who have never seen in person, or don't know about actual aircraft? The A-10 is a great plane in appearance and performance for its time. Its unique appearance is why its still so popular at airshows and conventions.
I got a nasty kick in the balls when I had to take on the cruiser with an F-2 and no ASMs. Apparently I'd used up too many beforehand... to think, they used to be better than bombs and SODs in 6 with their godly AOE; it used to be one missile for one ship.
ace combat was never a simulator,they're just pretending, for example, there is no sidewinder or archer missile that can lock into ground targets only in games like these that it does lock and talking about payload there is no fighter or attack aircraft can hold more than 12 or 14 missiles , in ace combat you can hold 75 or above of them
Mikhael Serrano though I find this version less challenging, for instance I n the old games you didn't have combat manuver help, it was either manuver or get killed. and I had to make my own attack runs on ground forces and switching weapons for attacks while controlling speed and altitude.

Yes the A-10 is a very powerful aircraft against tanks, bunkers, infantry, you name it. But to sink ships you need special types of anti-ship missiles. The A-10's weapons can sink probably just one ship at best. But hey it's only a game.
Would you like to tell me where the tanks are in Afghanistan? The A-10 is a general ground attack/strike aircraft, it was never designed for specifically hunting tanks. The GAU-8 wasn't even designed to penetrate the armor of a tank, it just could.
True, but with a few modifications it could carry Harpoon missiles. The JASDF even considered it for a coastal defense aircraft. Most modern warships, to an A-10, would be nothing more than tanks on water with better AA defense.
