Funny that you say that because he said he and Peter were drinking in the bar at the Hilton when the Yankees were in town and Roger Maris, Mantle, and Whitey Ford were in there with him drinking. All three of those guys had long since retired by the time KISS was formed. I love Ace but that story is bullshit.
Talented?? Lol Hes one of the worst professional guitarists I've ever heard. Watching his solos live is genuinely laughable, it feels like a skit it's so bad.
@@carolmichonne5788 It makes perfect sense if you know anything about baseball which you evidently don't. I don't have the time nor desire to explain it to you so you'll have to remain ignorant.
Met him in 2017 and gave him my 10 year coin. I was too nervous to say anything but I told him like many others have, he's my inspiration, yada yada yada... he gave me hug when I told him how his solo album was my peace during my deployment to Iraq....he thanked me for my service... signed some items for me...my top things of my bucket list ... Got to meet my hero....
Brian Reed -- i can't say much about Peter or Ace. I only actually know that Paul looks into the camera and lies on a frequent basis. If it makes you feel better that Ace and Peter have lied about something in the past then more power too you. But i only have witnessed Paul's dishonesty.
@@epaulk1969 - what have you witnessed? Overhype? That's not what i would call lying. Lying is Peter claiming he wrote Beth and 2 different stories about how he lost his makeup. Ace has been lying about still owning his makeup for 20 years and has admitted he doesn't remember much from the 70's.
This is an example of how inhumane the music industry can be. This man put his life into Kiss and was not appreciated the way he deserved by Paul and Gene. Ace made some mistakes like most humans and succeeded addiction. I'm so proud of Ace who inspired me to be a rock guitarist!! Love this man!!
@@kingrick5494 all the good music he has put out since the original comment was posted. I will always love kiss but the current group is just surviving off nostalgia
I’m glad Ace is back! He was lost in his addiction to Alcohol and almost died from it. He crashed his sports car a couple of times. He’s very lucky he didn’t get hurt bad or get killed. All because of his drinking. Now he’s sober and mentally sharp again. I’m glad he didn’t destroy himself. He was always my favorite KISS member along with Criss. I idolized him as a teenager and fan of KISS. Long Live the Spaceman! Space Ace! 👏🏻🎸😎
I was born 1966,I grew up listening to Kiss in elementary, 6th grade and so on,it was an amazing time to be part of Kiss Army, and I'm a girl!!!!who's with me!
Drove 2 hours to Ohio to see KISS at one of the last tours before the original breakup. Show ran until 2am. Drove back home, got up at 5:30am for work. Couldn't hear for 2 days. Not one regret...
Out of the 4 members, Ace Frehley is absolutely the best! So laid-back and chilled! I could totally hang out with this dude ... and his LAUGH is contagious! 🤣🎸❤
Ace Frehley: the best musician in Kiss, the most likeable person in Kiss, the best sense of humour in Kiss, the best solo album in the series of the 4 1978 Kiss solo albums, the only member of Kiss who had a solo hit, the only member of Kiss that people actually would go and see perform, the one Kiss member who has had a massive influence on subsequent generations of musicians, the only member of Kiss with any integrity, do I need to go on?
I was around back in the day when Kiss was a nobody band playing the popcorn club AKA Coventry's as well as a few others, Back then there weren't many places that you could play your own tunes at. The mercer arts center was a one of those places and a couple of others like coventry's, copperfields and CB's. I was a roadie for another local band who was on the bill when kiss showcased at the diplomat hotel and I knew them in passing as just another local NY rock band. They weren't very good musically and as a unit they hadn't found the cohesiveness that followed after touring relentlessly. Saying that I will say that Ace was always the nicest guy in the band with peter following close behind, Gene and paul were always about image and money and were pretty much assholes even back then, a lot of the local musicians did not like them due to the art rock scene ethos and not wanting to be considered commercial sell outs. They had a gimmick and some decent tunes in the beginning but the real reason they made it was their uniqueness also it was how Bill Aucoin promoted them, he wasn't willing to take no for an answer and after kiss was turned down by every label out there casablanca saw what Bill did and the rest as they say is kisstory. What a time to be alive back then I wouldn't trade my memories for anything.
You're not wrong, man. But Ace used to be a drug abuser and a hard drinker - and we know this kind of guy causes a lot of trouble. Even Paul - who's a boring fella - seems to feel sorry for Ace.
Ace is the ultimate guitarist of the time. Who is cooler than Ace? Laid down some of the greatest solos ever recorded. Genius.

Believe me, that radio station, Q104.3 SUCKS! I live 15 minutes from NYC & they never play any KISS songs apart from the occasional Detroit Rock City,, Rock N Roll All Night, even New York Grove. That radio station would rather eat dog shit before they'd play God Of Thunder, Shock Me, Deuce, or anything else from KISS.
When I see older photos/videos of KISS, Ace always looked attractive & interesting to me as the Spaceman character, so cool ! I liked his body movements when he played the guitar on stage, there was such a mystique to it. I think he doesn't realize how really talented & influential he is for other music artists.
For a guy who has one hell of a life, he comes over as very grounded and pleasant to speak to. He doesn't try to be cool, just is himself and that's good enough.Spectacular guitarist and I laughed when he was filmed under the stage during Beth and said: D'yer hear that bastards mic cut out? followed by Peter yelling fuckin' this and fuckin' that because noone could hear him.
Ace is the one who inspired me to play the guitar. I still play today and own a guitar shop. Ace lit the fire in me to stay close to the guitar all my life. It's just not KIZZ without Ace.
And this is why Ace was/is my favorite, he's a peoples person, a extraordinary talented musician, but yet a "normal man who has never forgotten where he came from.... Kudos to you Spaceman.
I bought my first guitar today and I was playing it and my dad said “you could be Ace” I just laughed and said “it would take me a few years to get to his level and he wings his style”
@@pleromicpastry5445 no i am saying he dislikes ace. Ace is a known anti semite. Looks at genes familys unfortunate history during the war. He not a self hating jew. He is an ace hating jew. More clear?
@@patrickthometz6365 I dont know that I buy that Ace is an anti Semite....I am aware that 3 of the members of kiss wore Nazi regalia at one point. And as far as Gene is concerned...he still uses the Nazi S's in their logo. Call them lightning bolts if you wish.
I love Ace and how calm and relaxed he is, and not to mention humble,he's what "rock and roll" should be,he's not on this massive ego trip all full of himself like some others
I agree with you, but the opposite, Peter is my favorite band Kiss member, but Ace is my second, Peter also had the best voice in the band by far!!! 🐱🐱🐱🐱
My favorite member of Kiss, Hands down. I have had the honor of meeting him so many times and every time he has been cool and had great conversation. Very honest man
Ace even in his own admitted dilemmas has always been right there. Let us talk about how phenomenal Ace plays he is the heart and flavor in my opinion of the original lineup and let us not forget never had a lesson and does not read music now go listen to his work to confirm that statement. Ace if you even look at the comments- looks good on you; sobriety that is and this lad has been around alcoholics all my life so I will say SOBRIETY is huge my friend. Congratulations! Thank you, Ace, been on my top shelf as a practicing guitarist as long as I can remember im in my 50's.
It amazes me to no end that so many guitarists say that Ace was an influence on them yet Rolling Stone doesn’t even list Ace in the top 100 guitarists of all time. Isn’t that mind blowing?!
In my book, he's the best. Argue all you want. You don't have to be lightning fast or fancy or whatever, you just got to play with passion and love what you're doing. Peter and Ace put Kiss where they are today. I love Eddie V and Page, but I'll take Ace any day
I'll always remember the day I was driving home from work and heard a song on the radio that laid me out so hard that I changed course, drove to the nearest Turtle's, threw open the door, and yelled out "I WANT THAT 'CULT OF PERSONALITY' SONG *RIGHT NOW*!" Everyone in there had a good laugh. Can't happen today.
I'll never forget walking up to my local record store the day "In through the out door" came out and the entire front display, which usually had the top forty albums, was completely full of that brown paper bag which the album came in and I could hear "In the evening" blaring from a block away.
Ace is such a cool person, he,s grounded and so humble, his answers are so simple yet effective, i would love to hang out with him and just pick his brain on his guitar playing
I did, until I learned what he did to his former band, esp Richie whos wife just died. "I had to man up and tell him". No ass, manning up would be keeping him because he was your friend. As i get older I understand and agree when people say kiss sucked.
I've been a huge fan since 1976 when I was 12 years old. I love these interviews with Ace and how he seems to have his act together these days. He is a very solid player and I've always loved his melodic leads. He may not be the fastest and most technical player, but he definitely has a unique sound and always was the best fit for KISS. Thayer may be able to mimic Ace and learn his solos, but his timing, picking technique and vibrato are different, so I can hear the difference. And to me the other guitarists don't count because the 80's non-makeup KISS was an entirely different band.
Ace did for Kiss what no one else could....he made them great. He took good songs and turned them into great songs. He's not a song writer but he's a genius with his guitar. Never over plays it or tries to be fast and flashy. Perfect absolutely perfect
I had all four of those solo tapes of the KISS members. And yes, Ace's was the best because Ace IS the best. You wanted the best, you got the best, ACE FREHLEY!!
Bought my first KISS album in 78 it was Love Gun, I was hooked. Once Ace & Peter were gone for good never bought another. I would like to remember KISS as they were in their glory days. All the arguments about who did what, who was a better performer is a waste of time. For a short while the 4 original members of KISS(Gene, Ace, Paul & Pete) were on the top of their game. Them 4 guys together had the chemistry and charisma to become a legendary band. That time is gone. Everyone has their personal ups and downs. I use to be more judgmental, but as I've gotten older I see life differently. I give Ace a thumbs up👍on his sobriety. I wish all of KISS the best and want to say Thank You for the memories. You guys ROCKED! ✌️
Yes absolutely when he said he quit kiss I believe him because it took months of legal negotiations for him to leave the band you can't lie about something like that even though gene did saying Ace was fired but he wasn't Ace you are the man
There are alot of great famous lead guitarists past and present, but Ace was and still is my favorite Lead guitarist of all time.He chose the perfect make up and theme for the band as the Space Man.He is the coolest member of kiss. Keep rocking Space Ace !👍
@♠frehley--mr.simms character was not appealing, it was appawling & we're not surprised about that but only wonder why he chose to be that character in such a famous band is just way out of line with the rest of the group. ♠😎✅
Watch is video’s where he shows how to play the classic songs, he is so original, he plays his in his own style, he really is amazing. I don’t think anyone could truly play a song exactly like he does.
Such a humble guy, and likable with it. Who is the sqwark in the centre? Ace is the only member of KISS I'd like to meet, as Eric is gone sadly. Tommy Thayer looks like Herman Munster in Aces mask, and he tries to play solos with his knees together.... Ace Frehley is the only Spaceman.
It’s Maria Milito, another disc jockey, she works for Q 104.3 in NYC, as well as Jim Kerr, the guy who’s not Ace in the video. I think she hosts a portion of the morning show with Jim, as well as her own show afterward, I can’t really remember completely, I used to listen to them, but I don’t drive anymore so I don’t know. I’m pretty sure she’s been a DJ at that station since the ‘70’s
Tell me about it, Peter and Ace are by far the best in the band and they have always been treated like stepchildren, disgusting? I would drink and do blow as well if I had to put with overconrtolling narrcist bastards and Peter and Ace were still great in the 70's functioning after partying all night!!! Lol
Ace is Ace.There is only one. He is rock n roll as you can get. He's been there-done that and is a living legend.Even though he has an big ego he is still a lovable guy. Rock n Roll wouldnt be the same without him. He surely has that Lemmy factor to him.
This was so great , relaxed, and very cool. Loved the exchange of thoughts with pure simplicity.. It is true interviews like this, that people want to hear and listen to. Bravo..
Ace does gives lessons these days on his difficult change ups on his favorite custom riffs. You can find them right here & elsewhere He comprehends music perfectly fine!
Not a single KISS fan wants to see anybody else than Ace Frehley on a reunion tour. That is the one and only truth. And now Ace is a different man. Now he can do it. If Gene can't see it, he's blind.
ACE you have always been my favorite guitarist, I'm so excited for you and your new album. It's absolutely incredible. I play guitar myself and earlier this week I had the tip of my finger cut off and I had to cancel the first show I've booked in a few years, I didn't let anyone know but it crushed me. I'm still not sure I can keep all of my finger. When I got your album, I rode around by myself for hours in my car with it on repeat and you made my fucking week! It put a smile on my face and I got HAPPY! I started to think positive thoughts and started singing with you. Thank you so much for your music! You are an inspiration I will never forget. By the way, I myself am over 2 years SOBER myself. Best wishes on your tour, your sobriety, your happiness and unstoppable success. I know my name is hard to pronounce but it's Christopher Bing. I just want you to know you helped someone who needed it. Please come to Atlanta. I'll definitely be there no fail. Bless!
@wboyle31 My comment went straight over your head. KIϟϟ is Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter. It's Bob, not Bruce, Kulick's lead guitar that was recorded for "All American Man", "Larger Than Life" and "Rockin' in the U.S.A” on Alive II. Dick Wagner was brought in for one day to play the solos for "Sweet Pain" and "Flaming Youth", and the acoustic guitar for "Beth" and "Great Expectations" on Destroyer. Ace and Peter couldn't be relied upon, due to their substance abuse, but I don't care about anything that was recorded after Dynasty.
My dad was a huge kiss fan ! He was also a drummer! I grew up on kiss and when I was 5 I was Gene for Halloween! I am now 47 I still have a great deal of respect for this band this started it all for me!!! Always n still been rock n! Love them!!! Love you Ace!!!! Really takes you back ..time machine now please!
Without Ace, i don't know if i would have listened to KISS. All the guys in school played Ace's riffs including me! Ace was my guitar building blocks.. etc.. (and the best role/make-up was Ace Frehley) Best Laugh/personality Ace.
One thing that had noticed from every one of ace's albums is that he sounds more like kiss than kiss dores... Guess we know where the kiss sound is....
Met him in london 1988,he signed my japanese bootleg destroyer album and my frehleys comet album,he was a nice guy and i said to him;you took your time getting back to the UK, Great meeting your hero….solo on Alive 2...
My first concert was KISS at the Fabulous Forum in Inglewood California 1977. And at age 14 I became a fan. Cheap Trick was the opening band. KISS ALIVE 2
