I must have a warped sense of humor. No one ever shows/laughs at one of my fave parts: where the landlord confronts Ace and he says, “Yes, Satan?” and then, “Oh, I’m sorry sir, you sounded like somebody else.” Please tell me I’m not the only one who finds that part hilarious? The delivery, the implication, the troll-job… it’s funny on multiple levels, right? Right? Sigh.

People like Jim Carrey are very different from their screen personas, he has been very open about suffering from depression much like Robin Williams. The song that plays when he realizes that Einhorn is Finkle is from the movie The crying game where a cop falls for a woman involved in a murder case and he finds out she is transgender. When he says he doesn’t have the power in the tank and when he talks to his sunglasses are references from the Star Trek tv show. The shark part wasn’t realistic since great white sharks can’t survive in captivity, several aquariums have tried but they usually died within a week and they put one back out in the wild and it quickly died.

Ace Ventura was Jim Carrey's big movie break out role after his performance on the popular skit tv show "In Living Color" The screenwriter wanted to do a detective type move and got the idea for Ace Ventura after watching a David Letterman skit i believe called "pet owners" . I do highly recommend watching the sequel "When Nature Calls". They did make a cartoon series and i believe a 3rd movie where it was Ace's son. They eas eeeehhhh.

If you dont know what a flooded car is, then you've probably only driven fuel-injected vehicles. Flooding happens in cars with a carburetor. ("old cars")

Befor fuel injection cars could get flooded. All cars would say after 1993 are fuel injected.

The term "laces out" refers to the way the person is holding the football in relation to the kicker. The laces on the football must be positioned so they are facing away from the kicker toward the field goal. My guess is that if the laces point toward the kicker and come into contact with his foot when he kicks the ball, the possibility of it creating a slight angle in the kick can result, and as we all know a 1-degree angle at the origin when carried out over 20 meters or so will be a huge difference in the direction the ball takes leading to him missing the field goal. I'm surprised you don't follow football (what we call soccer) in Europe. I've been there; it's a huge sport with lots of people following their teams, and the world cup is much more ubiquitous globally than the Super Bowl.

I'm probably the only one here that has actually seen the dolphin the Miami Dolphins Team borrowed from the nearby Seaquarium for Football games when they played at the Orange Bowl Stadium back in the late 1960s. There was a pool just outside the end zone and whenever the Miami Dolphins scored, the trained dolphin would jump out of the water and grab a rope that rang a bell. Poor Dolphin didn't get much work. They stopped using him just before Miami hire a coach by the name of Don Shula. My Dad and I got to go to the games for free because my sister was one of the Dolphin Dolls cheerleaders.

Those big mussel cars were great. My first car / truck was a 54 International Harvester panel truck. Not a mussel car but a lot of fun. My second car was a 64 Chevy Impala convertible. Not a mussel car but a lot of fun especially at the University. My third car was a 70 Pontiac LeMans Sport. It was a beast and lots of fun until the 73 gas crisis. Two months before the gas crunch, I bought a 73 Super Beetle convertible which was lots of fun since people were limited to $3 worth of gas at 54¢ per gallon. I. could maybe crank the Pontiac with $3 of gas.

When you hold down the ball for the kicker it probably means the ball is rotated so that the laces are up front - maybe it's just superstition or maybe Finkle looks at the laces to gauge where to kick... When this came out, I avoided watching it as I expected it to be infantile. I was wrong. Carrey did a great job playing an animal loving nutbar with major deductive skills. The second one was as infantile as I expected the first one to be. Ace is no longer portrayed as an actual talented detective, but a bumbling buffoon. I suppose if poop jokes make you laugh, it's a funny movie. That's really sad as the cast has got some really talented comic actors who have appeared in far better movies.

Carbureted cars could flood. You'd have to pump the gas pedal a few times before starting, if you did it too many times, you would flood the engine. Modern fuel injected cars have less trouble with that.

I don't watch football but I guess when they kick it the laces should be facing away from the foot. Perhaps they could snag on the shoe or something.

"Flooding" can happen to any vehicle. If theres too much fuel in the cylinders after, usually after numerous failed starts, then the vehicle won't actually start. You'll have to give the fuel in the cylinders a few minutes to evaporate or if you start the vehicle while flor Flooring it, you can possible get it to start once theres just enough air to push the excess fuel out. My project car has a toggle for the fuel pump for this reason alone. If i flood it, I can turn the pump off, try to start, then turn the pump on and she fire to life like a Phoenix. This is commonly where you get backfires on startup from.

3:39 Flooding was more of a problem with cars that don't have sophisticated fuel management systems. The engine could be fed with more fuel than it needs, causing it to literally drown in fuel. This most commonly happened when starting the car. It still happens with many motorcycles, since they have similar fuel systems of that time. Leaving the car to rest would let the fuel already in the engine evaporate, drying out the insides of the engine enough to try again. What you used to have to do when starting your car was apply a choke, which limited air flow into the engine which was necessary to start the engine, but risked the engine flooding if it didn't start quickly. These days, modern cars manage all that themselves.

I love this movie just due to the basic idea behind it. It's like they took a fully serious straight-laced crime/detective movie and just dropped this insane over-the-top character in it to see what happens.

If you want another classic comedy to watch, look into doing a reaction to: Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I feel like you will really enjoy that one, though not sure how many old cartoons you are familiar with, it helps to be aware of them, but not necessarily needed.

Flooding a car was more common in the 70's - 80's. Its where the air rich fuel mixture isn't enough to cause combustion. Making the car unable to start till you allowed the mixture to thin out for a minute after attempting to start the car. Its more a movie trope now that when a car doesn't start its because its flooded.
