I'm a little disappointed the most evil combo I know isn't in here. And yes it's in GW and it's more degenerate than anything Bolas could ever concoct. Granted it could go in any commander deck running green and white but hey. You curious to know what horribly degenerate 2-card combo in green and white is more evil than Dimir? >:D And yes I've seen your degenerate combo decks in Dimir and with Zo-Zu the Punisher and this is much worse. Worse even than a Stasis-Teferi/Derevi/Brago lock. Because it takes like zero effort once it's established and can win on its own without additional cards.

There’s a few inaccuracies that seem kind of important to bring up. 1. With Essence warden you gain 2 life per loop instead of 1. 2. Melira does not work with Devoted Druid. Melira prevents you from putting the -1/-1 counter on your druid entirely, which means you can’t activate that ability at all. Otherwise this was a pretty good primer. I’ve worked on cEDH Saffi for a few years now and it’s nice to see her getting more exposure elsewhere

Dont forget to add Greater Good, one of the shuffle Eldrazi's and Lotus Petal and you'll draw through your deck while at the same time producing unlimited mana! Saffi has been my commander for ages, glad to see one of the bigger youtubers giving it a bit of exposure! (:

I think not many noticed but the subconsious highlighting of important text, rules and effects was perfectly done in Sync with the explanation. Small but appreciated detail, i honestly wonder how no one (i know or follow) has done it yet.

Saffi is my favorite commander and edh deck. I spent years trying to perfect her into a high powered combo machine. Now it's too good for most casual games, but I still play her from time to time. She's never boring, in fact she can be very complicated getting all the combo loop triggers down. She's so much fun to play. I don't think I'll ever find a new commander that I enjoy playing as much as Saffi.

I remember a friend of mine played a Gaddock Teeg deck that had Saffi as an alternative commander, mostly because people weren't too keen on Teeg. Admittedly, there were times where Saffi was WAAAYYY better than Teeg. Made pinpoint removal a pain XD

I enjoy these techs, but i am up to 12 decks now. I get to sit at home and build more decks that i will be unlikely to ever play a game with. I like the ways PK has rubbed off on you. I also like the voiced flavor text, and the lore accompaniment for your preview of kiora bests the sea god was top notch.

LOL I remember my buddies Saffi deck, very combomatic. My buddy loved using Saffi with Pattern of Rebirth, Boonweaver Giant and Eternal Witness, least I think that was how it went to get all of their creatures out of their deck ;)

I like the use of deserts in the land base! I think they are an underused mechanic that doesn't take up card slots and isn't that big of a hit coming in taped in slower, tempo or mid-range decks. I hope there will be more potential for use with them at some point!

As for the persist strategy, while it definitely looks nice on Saffi, I think it's better suited to a commander that has more direct synergy with to it, like Shalai, Grumgully, Anafenza (the mono-white one), Mikaeus (both ot them), Melira and the new Renata. I have experimented with persist strats in some of my decks in the past, and from that experience, I say one should either commit to them or drop them altogether, as many of the persist creatures are actually underwhelming without the cards that support them.

hey prof. about your deck techs, when you do a deck tech on a commander that existed for quite a while, the player base might have already explored all that it can do. BUT! when you do a tech on a commander that was released in the latest set we often do not know what is it capable of yet. the recent set T.B.D has so many cool legends just waiting to be explored in the format

Don't forget blasting station. It's as good of a win condition as alter of dementia for your loop, and sometimes better if the opponent plays a card that shuffles back into their library if milled.

My Mizzix combo deck was probably the most hated in my playgroup, until another player made a Saffi deck with a terrible penchant for combo-ing on turn 5 or 6. And boy am I really glad for that. As for future decks I'd like to see, how about Unesh?

A small correction, Professor: Devoted Druid doesn't work with Melira. Because Melira prevents counters from being placed at all, you can't pay the cost to untap Devoted Druid with Melira on the battlefield. It works with the Vizier because you can pay the cost, but it replaces "put one counter" with "put zero counters", thus allowing you to go infinite.

Quite late to the party, but I have a pretty neat suggestion to the deck. Path to ancestry would be better in this deck than the temple, as you'll probably cast your commander multiple times during the game, which means multiple times of card selection.

How about a tech on Sek'Kuar, Deathspeaker? A Jund commander that gets overlooked because of generals such as Korvold,Prosh and Lord Windgrace. It can turn the same old aristocrats strategy into a beat down token strategy!

The command zone RU-vid channel did a deck tech on Uro that's pretty sweet. It's less about escape and more about Uro's first ability, though. If you want to build around escape specifically, I would suggest using Kroxa instead, as you can include Underworld breach and a lot of other graveyard matters cards.

Gwafa Hazid, Profiteer, only don't make it oppressive and controlling, but make it more Group Hug. I play a version of Gwafa inspired by Radiophage on TappedOut that's a lot of fun to play. I recently played Gwafa vs Arixmethese, Nekusar, and Bruse Tarl/Thrasios. It didn't win, but it was a ton of fun to interact with the other players, drawing them cards and giving them help while they didn't come for me until after an hour and a half, the Bruse-Thrasios player won by drawing his deck etcetc. It's deck 1703964 on MTGGoldfish if you find a deck already there and change the number.

I helped the Arixmethes player untap a land to counter another spell, I made the Nekusar player's Jace's Archivist block another 2/2 to prevent it from wheeling us again while they had Nekusar out. I managed to steal Nekusar and have a couple turns of damaging other players with Party Jace and Howling Mine. I stole the Thrasios player's Mirage Mirror, and then the game came to an end after I cast a Parallel Thoughts to line up my perfect draw containing a Corrupted Conscience on top, which was going to get put on a huge creature the Arixmethese player had, giving it infect. Also had a Rite of Replication up next if I recall.

Yeah. I've always wondered how a Saffi deck might function but this definitely seems difficult for me. I guess there's a reason I stick with Voltron or basic damage lol. I might end up decking myself with Great Henge or something (if I had one that is given its price tag) or accidentally leaving Saffi in the graveyard without ways to recurr her. This was still a fun deck to see though and may be fun to try one of these times.

IF you know the loops and the cards in you deck, it is a very cut and paste style deck to play, also, this deck allows you to loop a protean hulk infinite times, which I heard is pretty good.

The cool part of this is that you could proxy this and learn it. My public library has computers available along with a nice color laser printer, so I can print a set of proxies for less than $10 and they look pretty good. I did this with modern storm. It makes a lot. Ore sense now.

Correct me if im wrong but Melira and Devoted Druid don’t mix. Part of activation cost of devoted involved putting -1 counters, which Melira outright does not allow.

Also, every Saffi deck seeking to be competitive should carry the good old Boonweaver and Hulk combos. For those who are unfamiliar with it, you need Protean Hulk (or Boonweaver Giant + Pattern of Rebirth) and any free sac outlet: -Resolve Protean Hulk or Boonweaver Giant (have Boonweaver Giant get Pattern of Rebirth out of the deck); -Sacrifice it, get Karmic Guide, revive the sacrificed creature; -Sacrifice it again, get Felidar Guardian or Fiend Hunter, blink Karmic Guide, revive the sacrificed creature once more; -Sacrifice the creature one last time to get Reveillark. With all these pieces assembled, you can proceed to cheat every single creature from your deck and graveyard into the battlefield. Now the sky is the limit: feel free to remove all of your opponents' permanents with Acidic Slime and Archon of Justice, or just outright kill them with Perilous Myr or Inquisitor Exarch.

Last time I played with mine, I really annoyed the table by setting up Cavalier of Dawn + Gift of Immortality + Ashnod's Altar... every turn, blow something up. Fun times. :)
