They Blew My Mind!! It Sounds Huge And One Of The Best Things Is… You Can Get A Crushed Tone Without Pedals (If You Want)… Sound More Natural / Realistic
Wow, the last demo when you stacked the drives... you could really tell they fixed the compression issue in V2 compared to V1. Thank you for the shootout review!
LETS FREAKIN GOOOO! I've been holding out for this to happen. I've owned the ACS1 for over a year and been watching your stuff on their settings. Much love to your channel bro
Truly great review. So informative. You are VERY well spoken. Spot on descriptions. I just bought a ACS1..its on its way to me...CANNOT WAIT!!! Btw: Youa re a Hell of guitar player..your chord work is fantastic....seriously. I hope you get some original music out with your playing on it. It REALLY is that good. Thank you.
@@georgebarry8640 thanks that means a lot! I do have an experimental jazz type of album out. It’s called “Shapes and Colors” under the name “Nobes”! Stoked you went for the ACS1. Let me know what you think of it when you get it
Awesome video, and excellent playing too. I was also a die hard ASC1 user before, but just the new IRs after enough to make it worthwhile for me. Thanks again, great work.
@MarioCuervo 300 was completely reasonable for what I bought over 4 years ago. To keep getting updated since that time, free of charge, is pretty rare. No other pedal company has done this (that I'm aware of).
@MarioCuervo So yea updates are free usually, but with this new update, they literally gave you free IRs from a third party that everyone would normally have to go out of their way to find and purchase outside of the ACS1. And they pretty much started from the bottom again instead of making a totally different V2 pedal. That’s arguable for sure, but giving quality third party IRs via firmware update is literally giving something for free. Which is wild!
Just updated mine after a long day away, absolutely INSANE. And this is coming from a guy who has the UA DRuby combo on my board for a while! The feel is UNREAL! 🔥
Mike, you think it sounds better than the UA Ruby? I have the Dream and would like the extra amp options of the ASC1 if it could capture the feel of the dream
@@ryanmaurer2630 I’m gonna be 100% honest with you. I actually thought that yes, the Dream and Ruby were incredible new technology with how great they feel. However, they are a 1 trick pony. They do what they do incredibly well, but that’s all they do. Personally, I actually PREFER the sounds in the ACS1 BETTER than the UA stuff now with this new update. So, to answer your question, yes. The ACS1 is much more usable and versatile than the UA stuff, and the way all these new IR’s allow you to truly customize the feel and tone to your exact liking, I don’t see a need for the UA stuff in my rig anymore. IR tech and cab sim tech will always be improving, what matters to me is, how much can I tweak it to get that sound out of my head.
Great demo - thanks! Had considered this pedal a year ago and ruled it out due to some sonic issues I just didn‘t care for. Ended up getting the (great!) ToneEx Pedal, instead, when it came out. But the form factor and quick-and-dirty setting capabilities of the ACSI still appealed to me a lot. Enter 2.0: Yes! Immediately bought this pedal now, and can‘t wait to simplify and downsize my pedalboard with it.
This is where I’m at. I currently have two Tonex pedals on my board. And they’re just massive. Very excited to downsize! I doubt I’ll be selling my Tonexes but for live playing I’m hoping the ACS1 can work.
@@codynaler6644 Thanks for sharing. And as for selling my ToneEx pedal, I‘m of the same conviction as you: Sure won‘t do that, at least not for a long time…unless, of course, I find that the ACS1 satisfies all my needs and preferences. Time will tell.
@@scottbecker3485 I’ll be doing a comparison video in the near ish future of the Tone Factor AC30 /Deluxe Recerb captures for the Tonex and the ACS1 with their XR IRs. But I won’t even have my ACS1 until Tuesday 😩
I know! I didn’t know how much of a difference it would make. They did great revamping these amps and adding the tone factor IRs it feels and sounds great!
@@demilademoses5515 I’d say both. The new gain and amp settings help with the tone and the IRs really allows for the response to sound even more real with more saturation going in
It seems that older firmware sounds more transparent on clean tones, less dull. But maybe it is only about eq knobs position. I get the excitement about drives range, but I am not sure if they really improved the clean tone. But maybe less sterile means more lively, who knows. I do not own it, I only describe what I hear here. We both know that these subtle differences matter, but the only way how to tell what is better is by playing and attaching to the feel of the sound.
Yea for sure! There are still some great clean tones with the original firmware. I just noticed that the 2.0 firmware has a better response not only with gain but also with feeling on the fingers. And it definitely took drives and distortion better. But yea, I’d say trying it out on your own would definitely speak more than just watching this demo
@@nobesmusic I wrote dull but I did not mean it mean. It may even result in more consistent or coherent, a bit warmer sound. Maybe it is good change on cleans too ;)
Hey! Thanks I am going to do a new video showcasing that stuff, but if you check out my first ACS1 vídeo you’ll some presets that are pretty similar at the end
such a nice tone! Just a few question here, 1. what is the pick you're using? the pick i'm using is having this chirping sound on strings... 2. do you think the difference when stacking overdrive, between the previous and this latest firmware.. is it because of the gain stages difference? or is it because of the IR? I'm actually using a Strymon Iridium, and it seems to have similar properties too
Thanks a lot! I was a pick from the walrus audio pick variety pack. I belief it was 1.5mm but I can’t remember for sure. And regarding the drives, I believe stacking sounded better because of the new gain response on the 2.0 firmware update, but I’m sure the IRs help as well! I used the iridium and liked it, but I felt like the ACS1 felt better for me
@@svveets00 I’d say the iridium has a lot more gain on tap but the ACS1 just added some more with the new update. I also like how you can have two amps in stereo with the ACS1. You can only have one with the Iridium. I feel like the ACS1 feels a bit more real to me and takes a bunch of pedals into it well
After updating to 2.0 did you notice on the Fullerton (clean, low gain setting) some unwanted combination tones when playing a minor sixth interval? (ex: intro of Slow Dancing in a Burning Room) Unless it's some kind of firmware glitch that only I got, I'm curious why no one else picked up on this nuisance. Fullerton, low gain, clean tone, any cab. Please comment!
@@wholewheaties hey! I didn’t, but I might have not payed enough attention. I know that the tone factor guys really push the extra harmonics that an amp creates naturally in their IRs maybe you are hearing that.
Can you do a video showing how they take overdrive and distortion pedals now? Show everything from a low gain overdrive to a high gain going into Fullertone or something.
@nobesmusic Awesome! I still can't believe that there are no videos simply showing it as a pedal platform. I understand the new update sounds awesome, but sometimes you have an awesome distortion you want to use, too.
Did you use the same IR in both pedals? I know they provided new IRs, so I'm curious how much of the sound difference is due to amp model changes vs. different IRs used. Sounds good, though.
Yea I think it appears that way at first when the gain is around 12 o clock, but as you add more gain, the pedal gets substantially louder and evens out with previous firmware!
Thank you for making this video. So helpful. One question I have that I have never understood. I downloaded the new IRs. Are the front IRs controlled by the left CAB switch and the back IRs controlled by the Fullerton/London/Dartford switch. If someone can give me a good explanation, I would be so thankful :)
Thanks for watching! Nice. So to select the back IRs, just hold the bypass switch and toggle between ABC when your holding on to the bypass if selects the back IRs
Thanks a lot! Most of the video was just the ACS1, but here’s the signal chain, for the added effects: Shnobeltone Daily Driver > Caballero Effects Chroma Drive > ACS1 > D1 Delay > R1 Reverb
the new update does sound great! but its less volume. hows the compression's head room on the new update? cause i have to put my volume knob at 10-11oclock on the old update, so that it wouldnt compress when pushing with a clean boost pedal
Yea for real! Compression feels more subtle when I stack drives, the saturation blooms more instead of compressing more and sounding narrow. I did throw on a clean boost while I was experimenting before doing the video and it sounded great! I had my volume at around 12 and my gain at around 2 o clock
Was that an actual drive pedal into this thing in the end? I'm looking at my iridium and it doesn't take any pedals good if I have gain on iridium higher than say 40% so I basically have to use clean amp if I want to put some dirt in it. Is the acs-1 actually capable of getting good sound when both using the breaked up amp and a heavily distorted signal as an input?
Yea so at end is as using two pedals! Started with the Shnobeltone Daily Driver and then stacked on top of it with a prototype drive my friend is working on
Yea I’m not sure exactly what it’s called but you have to make sure it can transfer data and not just used for charging. I think if you look up data transfer microUSB you should find one! I’d ask an android user as well if you know any 😂
What is your drive section? Also, I’m hesitant to do the update because I have the tone factor hislop IRs which I love, and I don’t know how they’ll sound with this update.
Hey! I was using the Shnobeltone Daily Driver first and then the Chroma by Caballero Effects which is a prototype! And yea I totally feel you. I’d say do the upload and then compare your favorite IRs since you can upload 6. You can have three of the new ones and three of the ones you have and A-B them to see which one you like best. Even you stick with your current IRs, the amp redesign is worth trying. And then worst case, if you don’t dig it, you can always revert back to the previous firmware!
@@ac30lifestyle for sure! I mean I’ve used the ACS1 love countless times already and it’s been great. I always get compliments on the tone, so with the new update it will only sound even better FOH
I don't know what's going on with mine but it sounds nothing like this. I did the update and yes, there is a lot more gain, but it sounds really artificial.
Hey! Sorry to hear that, I’d try to redo the update again. Maybe there was an issue with the firmware uploading. And if that doesn’t work, I’d recommend contacting walrus to see if something is up with that specific unit. Their presets that are automatically downloaded onto ACS1 should sound good right out of the box. How was the previous firmware for you?
Give it some time for sure! I remember this update taking a bit longer but it will eventually all download. I think it’s because of the IRs that are being loaded as well. So it’s just a bit longer
Actually you can, I watched a video on how to do it, so it is possible , tho I decided to go with the Simplifier DLX, that unit is loaded with features and great tones.
Yea it’s definitely more touch sensitive there was a pretty wide dynamic spectrum I had even with drive pretty hi up. Super responsive. And yea I liked the previous ones myself! I’ve been using them stock since day one
