Simply mix dry AC powder and iodine powder in a plastic container. In seconds, you will get adsorption of iodine WITHOUT solvent, simply because of iodine sublimation to vapour. It actually becomes warm to touch because of the heat of adsorption, which makes more iodine sublime and drives it forward to completion. Warning, it will build some small pressure, so make sure container you shake in has plenty of extra empty space.

Hi Cayrex, Nice video. It is a good visual experiment. What is funny is that the I2 is complexed (and dissolved) into yellow-brown KI3 (K(+) and I3(-)) and that the activated C somehow seems to manage the separation of the I2 out of the complex (unless it absorbs KI too (or even KI3). To be sure maybe a conductance-resistance testing of the solution prior (orange-brown) and after (clear) could provide a clue on what is happening. Nice video! That's really cool! By the way, on a earlier video, you soaked carbon felt with KOH and nickel hydroxide, what was the concentration you used to soak it. Also can I used copper hydroxide and copper plate?

I guess the point is how activated carbon is useful at holding electrolyte components near a very high surface area conductor? Does it work the same with the ionic forms? Did it take up any of the KI? Will it decolor a vandalium solution?
@cayrex
@cayrex 10 месяцев назад
That method is really usfull for making some active material for batteries, because you have already ready made AC+I2 material. The activated carbon is good of adsorption of many materials that why is also good in filters. To remove most of the KI you just wash the powder.
@petevenuti7355
@petevenuti7355 10 месяцев назад
@@cayrex so washing that ac would just remove the KI not the I2? In other words it adsorbs both ionic and non-ionic solutes but only holds(on it's own) the non ionic?

Potassium iodide acts as a solvent for iodine, allowing it to dissolve and form the triiodide ions, which contribute to the brown color. When activated carbon is added, it interacts with the iodine molecules, effectively adsorbing them from the solution. Potassium iodide remains in the solution unchanged; it's the iodine molecules that are removed by the activated carbon, causing the solution to clear up. But the activated carbon is still wet from KI solution and for this ilreasnon is good to wash the powder.
@petevenuti7355

@@cayrex ...and that would leave some elemental iodine in the pores... After washing out KI... Yes?

In polymer gel battery, does the battery not already produce voltage? Why do you charge it?

Why? The powder particle size which I use works great here.
@ThailandAmazing
@ThailandAmazing 10 месяцев назад
@@cayrex I watched a guy talk about cement on day. He talked about how one size particals can only fill space so much. So he proved it by sitting even more in by ultrasound than he did it with another powder size. Next level is basically smoke. Like kind from carbon black from welding. Funny thing I worked at a research company R&D using the burnt metal smoke to coat a surface. We was trying to apply a conductive surface to ceramic. This after which we set a chip in the middle. The chip holder of ceramic was 60 layers thick. Not much thicker then match book cover. Light came through it. The back where chip sat needed to be conductive and very thin. I believe a grounding medium. This was in 1985 at company called interamics in California. I was the chemist for quality control for the military grade coatings.

@@kreynolds1123 Yes correct, mechanical-gravity battery. You have also electrochemical battery which have gravity cell design, in which the cell materials are separated by gravity. That type of battery is easy to make and experiment at home.
