This video shows how to add additional domain controller to existing 2016 domain. An additional domain controller also know as backup domain controller or secondary domain controller. I have domain network, in this network I have windows server 2016 as primary domain controller & dns server. I have two pc windows 7 & windows 10. These pcs already joined to domain network. I have share folder in windows 7 pc. I access this share folder from windows 10 pc.
I have only single dc in network, suppose primary dc fails due to some hardware failure or windows get crashed then entire domain network will go down & operation will be stopped. At that moment we can not access share folder.
To avoid this single point of failure we have to add additional domain controller in existing domain network. It provide redundancy (availability). When primary dc goes down secondary dc will take over the entire domain network & operation will continue to work. A primary dc also provide load balancing means it balances the domain network (improve the performance of domain network).
Multiple domain controllers can also improve performance by making it easier for clients to connect to a domain controller when logging on to the network. You can add additional domain controllers over the network or from backup media.
It is recommended to add secondary domain controller in existing domain network to avoid any such failure.
