I took out the transmission solenoid for a 2004 Acura TL to service and to clean out the screens that filters out dirt. I also replace the solenoid gasket and the 3 o rings with Honda brand only and highly recommended. Didn't have brake cleaner but you can use a throttle body cleaner as a replacement. Before placing the transmission solenoid back make sure to clean the area first including the leftover transmission fluid. I should have mentioned that in the video.

FYI
If you have rough or delayed shifts this will partially help for smoother shifts. Why partially? You will have to do a 3x3 transmission drain & fill and also changed out the 3rd and 4th pressure switches. For a 2004 to 2006 Acura TL you would also have to change out the transmission filter.
Conclusion
If this doesn't help then you will need to rebuild or replace your transmission.

I got an 05 tl that doesnt shift properly going up hill it will stutter and basically go in to neutral and refuse to move until i turn the car off and re start it then it will move untill it does it again. I changed the tcc solenoid and changed fluid didnt help much. I was think possibly a bad tcm. Atf was pretty dirty and old but not burnt smelling with some shavings on the plug no big chunks. Its my first auto i have the "opportunity"of fixing lol i only drive mt but doing this as a favor

I guess you are already aware that you only put 5 bolts in and the left middle hole was empty after you tighten down that shift solenoid. It was a very good video and keep up the good work.

My shift solenoid should be here by Tuesday and this video already has me ready for the job. I already knew what it was with a hard shift from 1st to 2nd when accelerating fast but no check engine light ever came on until I bought a new battery last Sunday. It came on I hooked up the OBD scanner and got code for my Acura 2001 CL type S (P1768 code) that is when I ordered the part. Peace and thanks for the video!

Hello so I have a 2002 acura tl and its leaking transmission fluid. The check engine lights shows solenoids 2 3 so would those be the culprit for the leak? When the fluid gets low it begins slipping, and sometimes won’t go into gear if really low. D5 will begin blinking as well. Once I put fluid in it it comes back to life. If you have the time could you please offer any advice? Other than a new transmission any fixes to get some more out of the car? Like would cleaning or replacing solenoids be the way to go? Thanks for your time

I would look into the solenoid that is in this video. Take it out, clean out the filter screens and replace the gasket with Honda/Acura only brand. Make sure to scrape off the old gasket completely before placing the new gasket back on or else it will leak fluid. Start the car and make sure it is not leaking from that location and look under the car to see exactly where it's leaking from if any. Hopefully it's not leaking from the transmission case and if it is bring it to a shop that specializes in transmission to see if they can pin point exactly where it's leaking from or maybe you just have loose bolts on the case. Hope this helps.

I have a 2006 tl when I took out the solenoid my screens were on the top of the tube in the o rings, they weren't even connected to the tube. I just recently had the transmission rebuilt some months back but am having problems that seem to be related to what I hear others are having with this solenoid. Could those screens been inserted wrong at some point? Or is 2006 slightly different?

I believe either they were inserted wrong or fell out of place when reinstalling the transmission solenoid unit. I would order new o rings oem recommended, clean out the solenoid, filter screens and reinstall everything the correct way. FYI: if installed incorrectly the transmission will shift very jerky but it will still shift. Hopefully this is the only issues you are having.

I have a 2003 Tl, and my transmission is slipping out an of gear a lot when I start it up, it takes a few tries to get into gear is this something I can fix by replacing solenoids and speed sensors?

You could try replacing the sensors and pressure switches, 3x3 transmission fluid change but I think most likely you're losing your clutch pack which is causing your transmission to go out of gear or not gripping the proper gears at all.

You welcome and thanks for watching. Most likely your transmission is going bad. I would highly recommend a reputable shop that rebuilds transmission or get a 2006 Honda Accord v6 transmission swap as I heard nothing but good things about them. It doesn't hurt to try the method in this video but if it still not shifting into 3rd gear then most likely your transmission is giving out. Hope this helps!

Nice video. I have a 2007 Accord with same v6 engine. I recently started having slightly delayed and harsh 1-2 shifting especially when engine is cold. It gets better when warmed up, but not best. I also noticed delayed 2-1 shifting. When slowing down, it tends to remain in 2 till I give it gas to move off, then it comes to 1. But absolutely no slipping. Oil is good level and not burnt, no much shavings the last time it was changed. I followed your step to clean the solenoid, but it wasn't much dirty. Should I just change it? I don't want this harsh shifting to damage more things. Thanks

It sounds like you're having other solenoid issues or transmission/torque converter issues. Our transmission has other solenoids besides the one in this video. I would change this solenoid out or maybe you just have clogged screens in the solenoid. Do a 3x3 transmission fluid fill & drain and not a flush and a ecu reset. Always use Honda oem parts not aftermarket. Also change out the pressure switches. I'm not sure about yours but mines had 2 pressure switches which is called a 3rd and 4th pressure switch. These switches helps with the shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th gear. It sounds like you might have to change out your pressure switches.

You could try this method and change out your 3rd and 4th pressure switches along with 3x3 transmission fluid change. Also do an ecu reset. And if this doesn't help at all then most likely your transmission is going.

Get your car scanned to see what's the issues. The flashing d light is most likely your 3rd/4th pressure switches or your neutral control switch.

I had multiple problems with my transmission first it wouldn’t shift past second gear and I replaced the whole transmission it cost me a lot of money, surprisingly the problem still existed where i would drive and after a while it seemed like the transmission slipped, I would press the gas and the rpm would go up but the car wouldn’t drive faster, and now the car won’t drive at all or reverse

Yea the transmission for the 2004 to 2006 is not that great compared to the 2007/2008. Did you get yours rebuilt? I would suggest rebuilt and changing all of the switches on the transmission with oem or get a transmission from a 2004 to 2007 Honda Accord v6. I heard it's much better than ours.

@@BayViewz no I didn’t get mine rebuilt I just got it replaced with a newer one but as soon as I picked it up and started driving it back home the same problems were occurring, I don’t know if it’s the transmission itself or other components could be the problem

@@johnjerez7390 yea rebuilt is the way to go with warranty. If you were to get a used newer one the transmission will most likely fail. Like I said change out all of the switches and keep up with fluid changes as it should be pinkish and not brown. Maybe you might have a bad torque converter. Go to a reputable transmission shop and let them diagnose and see if your torque converter is bad or not.

I know this is an old post but did you check the transmission fluid to see if it’s been leaking? Same issue with my Acura but there’s a leak from I believ the solenoids so until I get those fixed I had to keep refilling the fluid

Hi, Thanks a lot for your video. My transmission mostly shifts fine however in the morning it does shift but not really smooth. I did change fluid with oem 3qt and atp filter. Still kind of same. If I drive 10 min on highway and get into city it shifts really smooth. Maybe I should do 2 more fluid changes? Do you guys have any idea? Thanks a lot

I would change the transmission fluid 3 times to fully drain it out and changed out the 3rd and 4th pressure switches with Honda brand only.

I believe it’s s good suggestion. Just watch the fluid. The color, the smell, that says everything. You can also “reset” the transmission per videos here on YT. Also, pressure switches can be a concept to look into. Lastly, under no other options. Lucas transmission fix can be a godsend (for a short period of time.)

I have very similar problem. A noticeable harsh 1-2 shift when engine's cold and tends to smoothen out when warm. ATF is good, no much discoloration and no abnormal smell. Absolutely no slipping. I suspect a solenoid is getting weak. I've cleaned the linear solenoid as described in this video, but it made no difference. What solenoid could be the culprit?

I have a 2003 tl type s and my car wouldn’t shift past 2nd gear sometimes wouldn’t go in reverse or it’ll take long to go in reverse sometimes when I drive I’ll press the gas pedal and the rpm’s would move and my speed would stay the same and this usually happens when I’m cruising and at the end of my 2nd gear. Can this be a solenoid problem or a transmission problem

I'm sorry to say but it sounds like your transmission is going out. I wouldn't continue driving it as you may get stranded somewhere. I recommend a rebuild w/warranty or a new transmission. Getting a used transmission is more of a gamble.

Yea, sorry to inform you Mr Peter Griffin, but through my experience your transmission is on its way out. I had the same symptoms as yours and done everything from 3x3 fluid change to 3rd and 4th pressure switch, etc and a few days later almost ended up stranded on the freeway. Don't want the same fate to happen to you. I suggest a transmission rebuild or remanufacture and use Amsoil aft instead of oem Honda atf. You'll thank me for that lol. Hello , so i recently got a 2000 TL 3.2 and on third it revs up and then back down and then shifts. Most of the time when it has already warmed up it won’t do it. Should i do this?

Your transmission is slowly slipping. A rebuild is in the future unfortunately. But for the moment you could do this, a 3x3 ATF with Amsoil instead of Honda ATF. Keep me posted!

Hello, I just recently bought a automatic 2008 TL type s, didn’t notice till later but it shifted hard and it gets better when it’s heated up but you can still feel the jerk when shifting gears, no check engine light on but my on screen computer messsages gave me a P0767 code and I’m hoping it just needs new transmission fluid and a clean, don’t really wanna spend money on a rebuilt transmission. Hopefully it’s still early enough to fix but what are you thoughts on doing first?

I have an Auto 05 Acura TL. It drives fine until it warms up…Then when accelerating from dead stop, it shudders from 1-2. If I put it in manual mode and take off from 2nd gear it doesn’t do it. Wdy think?

It's in another video I made. But basically u stick the keys in the ignition, make sure the radio, headlights and ac/heat is off, step on the gas pedal, turn the key to ignition 2 (don't start up the car) and wait for 1 minute or when the check engine light turns off, let go of the gas pedal and then start up the car.

It could be a possibility. I had issues where my transmission would stay in neutral when I come to a complete stop. Ever since I cleaned the transmission solenoid, the filter screens and replaced the o rings I never had those issues. Give it a try. Let me know the outcome.

It could be a possibility. It could also be a torque converter going bad. I heard that when shifting from park to drive it cycles through 3rd gear first and then drive causing a slight delay. I would recommend cleaning the transmission solenoid, 3x3 transmission fluid change and changing out the 3rd and 4th pressure swtiches. Reset the ecu also and see if that makes a difference.

@@MC20082 it's behind the driver side front wheel fender. You would have to take off the front driver side wheel and pull back or take off the plastic fender guard to get to it. There's one in the middle left and one on top. Highly recommend getting oem Honda pressure switches only. Hope this helps!!!

@@xXp0SeDx It sends signals to the cars computer and helps monitor the amount of pressure in the transmission. Basically it sends certain amount of fluid to the transmission depending on your driving habits for smooth transition and shifting. If the switches goes bad you will notice harsh/rough shifting and the gear struggles to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. It can actually damage your transmission if you continue to drive with bad pressure switches. You will also get a flashing d drive light.

my 2006 TL consistently has been going into neutral when downshifting into first, only on cold starts during the first 5-10min of driving. Also when I floor it from a low speed (20-40mph) it goes into neutral. Would this be a solenoid issue? Transmission was redone ~50k miles ago and I’m currently at 194,xxx miles. That's a oxygen 2 sensor code for your catalytic converter which is under your engine. It has nothing to do with the transmission solenoid.

I don't really know the torque specs. I just hand tighten it with a ratchet just enough. It doesn't have to be on super tight.

When the transmission is shifting rough, then you know you need to clean or replace the transmission solenoid. Also I would recommend changing the 3rd and 4th pressure switches.

in my acura tl 04 i have to put the car in the (L) then run then to (D) that car can run , is because this? also leaking oil too. maybe the gasket of that silinoid? and clean it ? then will be fine ? or can be other problem

@@xwolcliff10x that should be the transmission fluid that's leaking out from the sides. If it's the coolant then that's a whole different story. Yea I would wait until it cools down and then pry the edges with a flat head. Spray some wd 40 if that doesn't work.

@@BayViewz well the water pump is leaking regardless, so there’s coolant around it but even after cleaning around area throughly, I couldn’t pry it off. There’s looks to be gasket marker seeking out the sides along with the paper gasket visible.

No. The solenoid c is a single solenoid clutch not dual like the one in this video.

I'm not replacing the solenoid. I took it out to get it cleaned, clean out the 3 filter screens and replaced the 3 o rings and the black rubber gasket. I had this car since 2004 so it should be a maintenance requirement.

@omar nieves When it goes bad or the filter screens are dirty the transmission will shift very rough. If you are having transmission issues I would recommend cleaning or replacing the transmission solenoid and replacing the 3rd and 4th pressure switches with oem parts only. I would change out the transmission filter and do a 3x3 transmission fluid change/refill not flush and do a ecu reset. And if all of that doesn't help then you would need a transmission rebuild or replacement.

@omar nieves In this video the part that I took out and cleaned is the transmission solenoid which is on top of the transmission. I recommend going to the dealership to purchase the pressure switches which is below the transmission but to replace it you will have to take off the front driver side wheel.

This is what I found online. I would check your oil level, change your oil first and if everything is still the same check the link I sent to you and replace that part.

For the transmission solenoid I recommend buying at the dealership and it's very pricey. Never go aftermarket especially for the transmission.
