❤ MORE ABOUT ME ❤
I'm a 33 year-old mum of three, who lives in Cheshire, in the UK, and this is my small part of the online world, where I share my story. And things I enjoy and like too! I have three children, Bill, Daisy and Stanley, and they seem to be growing up so darn fast these days. We have a golden retriever called Merlin, and two cats called Romeo and Elsa and, hang on, this is sounding a bit like a kid's essay at school isn't it? I'm due to get married this year to my other half, Mark, and even though we did everything a bit backwards, I am really happy with how life has turned out. You might find everything from food videos, clothing hauls, home updates, vlogs now and again, and some topics close to my heart, such as coparenting, hearing loss and Stickler Syndrome too. I am a very average mum, but I try my absolute best at whatever I do, and hopefully you enjoy following along!

It was eye-opening to hear how "normal" social situations can be hard when you suffer from hearing loss. And even the mask thing... So obvious in a way, but still I've never really thought about it. Just goes to show once more how you never know what someone else is going through and how kindness, patience and consideration really are important. Not sure if that makes sense... But either way, I loved the video :)

Loved this Charlotte, such a fantastic brand collaboration and as always you do it so well and so naturally. I found it so interesting to hear the audiologist talking about the different factors with hearing and loss, especially as my brother has been diagnosed this year and has had a hearing aid fitted. Also, this may sound strange, but it was lovely to see you talking just like you do with us on camera, in real life! 😆It showed how genuine you are 😊

Love love love this blog Charlotte, the difference hearing aids make to ours lives is a life changer. Everything you said I can relate too, I have a bone anchored hearing aid (BAHA) which works well for me, when I don’t have it on. I have to try and rely on lip reading which I’m not great at. The delight on your face when you put your new hearing aids in made me cry happy tears, so happy for you xx

This was really nice for me to watch. I got COVID in October 2020 and developed tinnitus and hearing loss after and it’s been very frustrating. I don’t have any friends or family with hearing loss so I have no one to relate to and have just been struggling with how difficult certain tasks are. When you were talking about how hard it is to hear cashiers I felt very seen. This might sound weird to hearing people but it’s gotten so that if I don’t know the person and/or can’t predict what I expect them to say, I can’t understand what they’re saying. My brain knows they’re speaking and even that they’re speaking English but it’s like trying to read a sentence with half the letters randomly removed. And you have to ask them to repeat it 3-4 times to get enough of the missing sounds to try and understand. The worst is if you say “what?” and then they completely rephrase their sentence because they think you just don’t understand. I’ve started pointing at my ear and saying “sorry, I can’t hear very well” and then usually they will slow down and enunciate and I can get the gist of it, but it really sucks. People look at a 30 year old who says they can’t hear like they’re lying. I’ve also been battling doctors who said that there was no way COVID caused my hearing loss to even try to get an appointment to a specialist because healthcare in the US is so complex. Even though there are studies with documentation of tinnitus and hearing problems as a symptom of long COVID. It’s nice to be able to relate to someone though so thank you for making this video.

This was actually a really hard watch. I’ve never felt confident with my hearing and when the pandemic hit it became so hard. I feel everything you said about social situations. It’s so hard asking people to repeat themselves, especially when you’ve said it 3 times and you still can’t get it, or when it’s a joke and everyone know the moment you have to repeat a joke it’s dead 😭 I need a hearing test so bad but I was discharged from the ent when I was 12. I mentioned it to the gp recently and it got shrugged off. Currently sat here with a perforated ear (my 14th one) but I’ve managed to go 10 years without one so fingers crossed it’s not going to be a recounting thing again 😂

Glad your new hearing aids are working out well! I bought some goodies from flame scents on your recommendation- they are fab and the girl that owns it is so lovely but unfortunately I lost my sense of smell with the dreaded c word two months ago and am really missing all the festive scents 😢

I have had tinnitus and hearing loss for 19 years and has been frustrating at times. Always on edge and takes extra effort to keep calm. Social situations can be funny, especially when a cashier us simply asking "would you like a bag?" And I've misheard and start to waffle on about something else 😅

🙋‍♀️ never realised how much I relied on lip reading till masks came out too! I don’t have hearing loss but I don’t have the best hearing and I had one funny mask situation where myself and the person who was serving me both had to ask ‘what’ like 20 times each and it turns out he had tinnitus and was struggling too.

As a bilateral hearing aids user but currently awaiting BAHA surgery I'd be interested to know how you identify. Do you say hard of hearing, hearing impaired, deaf (lowercase D). I found changing from 'HOH' to deaf a really hard step.

How do you find hearing aids and glasses together? I find it a bit of a pain, then add masks into the equation and life couldn’t get anymore difficult!!

My daughter has recently lost some hearing in her left ear, the doctor has put her on steroids as he thinks she has sensor neural deafness caused by a virus, she has to go back because they haven't helped, so we'll see what happens next.

How long have you had diminishment of your hearing? Do you have advice from your experiences over the years with hearing aids? As a mother of youngsters you must need ease of use and high levels of accuracy so as to discern a screech of joy from a scream for help. It appears you may be new to this. How is it a question? If one cannot hear properly then one cannot tell if footsteps are keeping pace with you everywhere and you are being followed? It is a matter of safety, isn't it? You are performing such a public service for younger people who are having hearing impairment. They need to get help, so they and others around them can be safe. And no one needs to dread social situations because they are exhausted by lip-reading. The hearing technician or ENT doc used a wonderful graphic to show you how much verbal communication you are missing. Glad you have the new devices already. Is there much of a problem with ambient noise, background noises not remaining in the background, as it were? You need to be alone for medical visits. It's too important that you focus on your own issues.

Are you saying that private hearing aids are a lot better than the ones the NHS provide?
@CharlotteLouiseTaylor
@CharlotteLouiseTaylor 19 дней назад
In my case, they are generally yes. I imagine that’s largely down to underfunding of the NHS. That said, they do improve year-on-year, just at a slower pace. xx
