I love how Adam is genuinely interested in what their talking about, and asks the right kind of questions.

As a wheelchair user myself, I could give so much information and ideas for new equipment. Sometimes I feel that some equipment isn't designed by people with disabilities. If there was some way I could get contact with these people, it'd be amazing opportunity to make some much needed changes to the way assistive devices for disabled individuals.

I got one Question .. Where is Jamie?
@TheUserid82
@TheUserid82 7 лет назад
Jamie is a behind the camera type person so is most likely having the time of his life sitting in his shop working on the most complicated problems customers bring to him. The main reason he was on mythbusters was a lost bet to create the pilot episode and the film crew was fairly small.

There is a HUGE lack of people with disabilities designing and building equipment for people with disabilities. Slowly more and more people with disabilities are pursuing advanced degrees in the engineering fields and going on to work in those fields, I could write a book on the challenges of working as a person with a disability, but we need to be encouraging kids with disabilities to pursue STEM courses as early as possible. I myself am a C5/6 quadriplegic, if you would have told me in 1998 when I broke my neck at age 17 that I would go on to be a Professional Engineer, run my own business, and have my own small machine shop in my garage I would've laughed you out of the room. I would hope this lab utilizes real wheelchair users as often as possible to test ideas, I hope you are able to get involved with them.

That liner for sweaty prosthesis looks really interesting! I work out every day and I sweat quite a lot on my stump so there really is a need for that kind of technology. The first six months after I started walking with a prosthesis was the worst then it got better sweat wise.

Thank you Adam, that place is amazing. As an older person who is beginning to encounter some of the problems shown in your video, it makes me more hopeful. I have two friends with the sort of disabilities you covered and have shared this with them. These Maker Tours have all be interesting and inspiring. Keep up the good work.

That air powered chair is a great idea. A small pump and you can recharge anywhere you have power and a simple valve stem you can recharge at any gas station or repair shop that has air tools. For a wheelchair scale why would they need to weigh the chair separate after the first time? The chair isn't going to change weight much over time so once you have a base for that chair it would be a known to subtract from the total. Yes you could be +/- a pound but for the most part that is smaller then the doctors care about.

That was the Tested crew (Joey and Adam Isaak). Adam (Savage) wanted to try a "fly on the wall" technique with this series, with the cameras just following him as he rapidly toured locations. That lasted in one city -- Pittsburgh. The other cities on the tour are filmed in more traditional Tested style, also with Tested crew.

For artificial limb in bone implants are FAR superior to any socket design. Leg sockets users say they can't feel the floor or if their foot hits anything. In bone implant users say they CAN feel the floor or if their foot hits something. Plus there are no sores associated with socket limbs and some socket users never get used to the socket and feel they can't use a limb because of the socket. Lets get with the times folks. implants are the future of artificial limbs.

"smart wheel"... that is a little bit annoying. By that definition every electronic device is smart, which it is, but not in the IT sense of the word. I think that a device has to do part of the computing to be called "smart". Although that would make a pocket calculator "smart" I think it is a good start for a proper definition.

The amount of research and money spent into the kinect system is quite astounding, it was very well developed and was also developed in mind of use in other areas, So your seeing a business model that works around a very well designed product. By your comment, i feel your mind would be blown in all the places that it can be used/how helpful the system really is. Games are a short sighted look at the system.
