A simple but effective modification that turns your spoon into a can opening tool! It's not rocket science but it sure can make your outdoor experience a lot easier. As long as you have your spoon, you have your can opener. Thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment below!
Yet another great idea from you. I have several of those mini can openers. I keep them with all sorts of other gear to ensure I have one when I want one. Never one attached to a spoon though. I enjoyed the vid. Thank you.
I love how small and useful the p-38 is, I just throw mine in a pocket for just in case. James you've given me a few great ideas would you be interested in reviewing them at a later date in the future?
Great simple yet effective hack! Love hacks that make something multipurpose. You might have room on that same spoon to grind out a section so it can also serve as a bottle opener. Nothing like a high quality beer after a long day of hunting/camping/etc!!!! 🍺
James that was a great hack but I would add one thing. He should put a small ranger band across the sharp part of that can opener to prevent it from tearing up the fabric that's around it in your pack great job on that
thanks, i have one of those can openers and will probably do somethign with it in your example it seems plausible to have your wrist cut up while eating beans but well, a plastic protection from some garbage is simply made ofc also it seems that the angel of the can opener on the spoon should be directed outwards so its not that hard to open large cans that are taller than the spoon but i havent tried this practical at all
It works pretty well as is, but you could change the angle if you like. Also, I don't think you would cut your hand or wrist on it as it is not that sharp. However, thank you so much for your thoughtful questions and for watching and commenting!
The problem is that those P-38 can openers are made for right-handed people and I only have the use of my left hand (due to a stroke). Left-handed folks get a raw deal in this right-handed world. The can opener on a Swiss Army Knife is a bit easier...if I bring canned goods, I make sure that they have pull-tab lids.
That can be a real problem for sure. Pull-tab lids are a wonderful invention! Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I really value your support. I hope you have a Happy New Year!
Suggested Modifications: #1 Didn't you say to put it on the BACK side of the lever/spoon? #2 Change the direction in which the P38 is mounted. You are far more likely to have clearance in more situations with the lever pointing upwards than when it is pointing downwards.
Oh that's going to work really great as long as you don't lose the spoon if you lose a spoon your Sol on the can opener so you should always carry at least a dozen of those little things put them in an old film canister or if you know someone who's diabetic and has those test strips and in one of those canisters put them in there or you find a canister that doesn't open will fit in it's always nice to have those things around another great implement made by the US government as long as you don't get no cheap Chinese knockoff and believe me they do make cheap Chinese knockoffs of those and they are cheap
I see little point to doing this. It will cut your hand and the spoon will get in the way making using either tool harder without saving any weight. Someone mentioned using a small band, just band them together.
i was on top of a mountain with only 2 cans of food, no can opener. no spoon, no flat rocks. how to do it. i had to have food ,i needed energy to get down the huge mountain. i found a rock with a sharp pint and scratched the edge wearing the metal thin and then held the piont ate the perfect point and popped it thru the edge, working the hole around and finally enough to remove the food. no blood , it can be done !!
I do enjoy a lot of your videos. But why reenvent the rock? You can open any can with a P-38. Or knife when it comes down to it. Sorry if I shake my head. But you are only re-enventing the rock.
@@WayPointSurvival Ha h aha! I can open any can, back to the days of C rations, with a pocket knife, M4 Bayonet. It's to simple. Pound the point into lid and work like a saw. Not to be a troll. And I loved the 1880's camping videos. But seriously. If you have a P-38 or Army issued, boyscott, or Swiss army knife.... Why all the tools? Seriously? They all come with a can opener. Again, not trying to troll. But the stupidity of people really blows my mind.
@@WayPointSurvival Sorry, but if you go into the woods with can goods and no knife... Ummm... you deserve to starve to death. Might sound cruel. But I just don't get this modern-day society.
@@WayPointSurvival My God.. I don't leave the house without a pocket knife. Even a small old timer pen knife. LOL. Anyway.. keep the videos going. I just wish people could open their eyes.
