Thanks for the feature guys - appreciate you taking the time. Always nice to see an unfiltered reaction from people trying these out the first time :) The Halberd into the Bad Cat was sounding especially great, and it was also nice to see the fuzzier side of the Surveyor in action too. For those watching at home who might not be familiar, the one thing they missed is the variable mid EQ on the Longsword. The shift toggle changes the center frequency of the Mid control. It lets you boost/cut at 1KHz for cut and sizzle (great for lead playing) or at 300Hz to dial back the mud or add some beef (great for scooped amplifiers). It's my favorite part of the pedal and can take it to pretty unique territory if that's your thing. Anyway, cheers! 😁
Jesus ... reviewing guitar pedals is like reviewing Chiswick High Road coffee shops. Love the channel but hate pedal reviews! BTW I bought all of my pedals (£1500) from Andertons!
While it's certainly great for EAE to get this high profile gig, I'm sure they were cringing during each moment of glaring dad-rock misuse. There are tons of demos on youtube though, giving each of these their proper doom, shoegaze, garage-y rock, etc moments to really shine. Also...barely even touched on the influential significance of the Model feT's (Sunn O))) Model T) or the Surveyor's (IVP rack pre) voicing and gain structure. This was even worse than Peach Guitar's attempt to demo their batch of Death by Audio pedals.
for real. the guy plays lenny kravitz and the FRIENDS riff over and over and the other guy is like 'this sounds ok i guess but its nothing special' jfc
A boost that only works with the pedal on is just a different choice, you lose something either way. This way you can preset a huge boost, and make it part of the sound, then turn that on or off, like a second channel on an amp. If you do that with an independent boost, it’s very possible that turning off the drive will make the volume jump, forcing you to make different compromises. So, I’m pretty sure this is a conscious choice, and not a missed opportunity. Aside from that niggle, it’s nice to see EAE featured here, they make truly excellent stuff. Different from anything typical, yet refined, and useful. Brilliant.
It is indeed. And in answer to another of their questions, a longsword is a one-and-a-half-handed sword like the kind a knight would use, whereas a broadsword is a one-handed sword with a basket hilt.
Nooooo! I bought the Model FeT off of some place in the Ukraine last year because that's the only place I could find it at the time..! 😂 Absolutely adore it and it's never leaving my board
Got to say, this endless new pedal trend kinda reminds me of what happened with tulip bulbs in Holland in the distant past? There’s nothing wrong with these pedals , catchy names on a theme and they all sound like flavours of overdrive done well. It’s all a bit emperors new tone!
@@rtxf There was a boom and bust in the 1600s called "tulip mania". It was kinda like Beanie Babies but even wilder. It's famous for being one of the examples of irrational exuberance in markets they teach in Econ 101 courses.
@@rtxf like Jordan has said below everyone cashed in on the value of tulip bulbs thinking the rise would never end! It did thousands lost everything they had, pedal market shows similar trends , people paying silly money for rare but ultimately iffy old pedals and new manufacturers poping up all the time with samey pedals with ever fancy graphics it’s nuts and a zero to do with making music.
History wasn't really either of you guys' subject at school was it :) Anyway, I've been seeing these pedals on loads of boards from pedal connoisseurs on the other side of the atlantic. I've always kind of wanted one, but mostly just because I'm a huge nerd and I like the branding.
That Model Fet is nice- I really like it, might check into one. The other drives were good, but like Capt. pointed out- not groundbreaking or anything, but think about that- how do you do "groundbreaking" in a drive pedal without turning it into something else? A drive pedal or preamp sort of is what it is- they've done every flavor of transistor/diode/op amp/whatever you can dream of so- nothing new there. We've twisted the EQ section in every direction- 3 band eqs, parametric eqs, tilt eqs, etc.- not much left to do there. We've even tried preset eq curves you can choose from. We've got drives with multiple input caps and clipping options that can be dialed in for any combo of guitar and amp no matter how bright or dark. I guess what I'm saying is- cut them a break man, you try and come up with an original groundbreaking overdrive- it's not easy. Tbh there hasn't been one since the Klon imo- which found a way to use a clean blend to make something truly original- now that's been done so- what next? Just like music- it gets harder and harder as time goes because ppl have done it- all. Coming up with an original drive is like trying to write an original song- not easy.
Hey Andertons, can we get more artists and less guitarists for pedal demos? Less blues, 70’s rock riffs, etc and more new creative ways to use classic & modern sounding pedals would be greatly appreciated! So many pedals sound like, “Just another”, because the guitarist demoing is playing “just another,” blues lick. I believe we can all agree that two identical guitars can have completely different mojo/feel and make you want to play and write differently. I believe pedals are the same way. Most OD pedals all sound the same playing blues & classic rock but some are better suited/tailored for other genres. EAE pedals are highly versatile and some also happen to be perfectly suited for post-hardcore (their origins are birthed from those genres.) With all the time and editing that goes into a 30 min video, I would have loved if you covered all the features of these pedals and maybe given us more information about EAE that is available on their site. Andertons has been a staple in gear & guitar content and I’m finding myself watching less and less of your videos because other channels are meeting those creative needs. With more and more gear these days and price-tags soaring, we need better representation to help us, the consumers, make informed economic decisions. I know there are other younger players who feel this way too. Love you guys, thanks for all you’ve done for the guitar community!
Those looking for a cheap jfet Sunn Model T option, I strongly recommend to get a kit from GuitarPCB called Sunn T and build it yourself! Costs like 35 pounds and sounds insane. You can use it as a preamp or overdrive. PCB Guitar Mania also has a similar kit with a built in LPB-1 type of boost and some EQ mods. The only thing you need to know is how to solder.
Some us are the pedal buyer paupers so to those who loved the 249 pounds ...Model fet pedal you should give the Earthquaker Acapulco Gold a listen. It is not remotely as versatile it mainly gives you the heavy tones but WTF thats what I want from it. It is 135.00 pounds or $130.00 USD
History note: Long, great, broad. All terms used for the same type of sword as well as different types like bastard, zweihander etc. D&D is where people really started categorising by descriptor, most people just called a sword a sword and if it was long it was a long sword.
i couldnt imagine anything more boring than having to come up with an "new" distortion or overdrive pedal..these things are done to death..how is there enough of a market for all these companies to keep producing them?!
Because these are capable of more than the dad rock riffs that these two put through them. Also they’re different than most drives I see. Halberd is like a blown out tweed amp. Model Fet is the Sunn Model T in a pedal.
That's how I feel w the maestro pedals...not doing anything I'm not getting from other effects I have..not enough anyway..bet they stack great by design tho...puts u at 300+ for a pair tho...idk..hammer tone seems way better value
Maestro pedals just Gibson being opportunistic about the current pedal mania trend! If they were serious they’d have rereleased the weird and wonderful maestro stuff from the past but were the quick buck in that?!
I find it hard to invest in the higher priced pedal market for unknown pedals. Everyone has to start somewhere but most people are not interested until the blindfold challenges. I think that is where this channel shines.
I don't know what you guys are doing but I buy the Overdrive pedals and I still can't get that Overdrive sound. I figured you must have it dialed in on your high dollar amplifiers😔
@@averyamadeusjacobson2650 Not true, you can get killer gain tones all over the spectrum on/with solid state amps and pedals Edit: and digital plugins too!
@@Artec619 Honestly I am a cheap gear enthusiast. I only own one tube amp and when I do play into it, it sounds better than any of my other amps. Price isn't a huge factor, but I do believe a tube amp will generally sound better..
Just what the world needs more overdrive pedals that sound like all those other gazillion overdrive pedals. How do all these pedal companies stay in business with so much competition?
Not impressed with any of them unfortunately, and using a Tele to test fuzz pedals (none sounded like overdrive IMO) doesn't cut it, it's too ice picky.
