Adding extra home office storage, a satisfying declutter and power tool chats 🛠🔩🧰

While the Irish weather was being unpredictable, I decided to come inside this week and tackle the job of adding more storage to my home office. I created extra shelving in the wardrobe that is in my office. By doing this, I was able to add extra storage and organise my power tools better. Also, I had a very satisfying declutter of my craft space. At the end of the video, I chat about my power tools, as this is something highly requested by you guys.

Good advice and great encouragement for people who are uncomfortable with power tools, and hesitating to use them. Tip: if you go cordless, and if you can afford it, invest in an extra battery, in that way you'll hardly ever have to pause a project because your battery ran out of power. And also handy if you use two tools alternately. For instance like you mentioned drill and driver, or saw and drill.

I love two minute tool talk! This should def be a mini series, even if you're not an expert. It's important to de-mystify power tools for people who aren't feeling confident, especially women! I'm married to Makita 🤣 I've got a drill & driver set (cordless) and then bought a circular saw (body only as it can use the batteries off the others). I've also used a Makita cordless jigsaw, and an orbital sander. I'd def recommend all of them! One thing to think about if you're getting power tools is that there are different levels of batteries available. Cheaper ones won't last as long before they need a charge, so a power hungry tool like a circular saw might need a bigger battery - it helps to have a few different sizes of battery available.

Nicely done! I agree with you, don't use tools you aren't comfortable with. If anything, in the states at least a lot of hardware stores, and community centers tend to have classes, and those might be worth looking into. I'm lucky my husband loves power tools and will do all the cutting, while I assemble and decorate. lol. Ryobi is a pretty decent brand. My husband has been investing in a lot of their tools, since the batteries are very universal and will go with all their items....where as some brands will have batteries set for only a few tools and other batteries for others. Its nice just having one battery to pick when choosing power tools. Great video, I can't wait to see what you do next!

WORX has a drill that lets you put the screwdriver bit and the drill bit on and with a push of a button you switch from one to the other. It is called the SWITCHDRIVER 2-IN-1 CORDLESS DRILL & DRIVER. I love mine - no more switching from one tool to another. Their batteries are similar to Ryobi in that the same battery is interchangeable with many of their tools - so whichever brand you choose make sure the batteries are interchangeable as much as possible. It makes life so much easier. Catherine great job in that room. Love your new greenhouse.

Loved your decluttering video. Great job on the storage shelves. Sometimes my son and I work together in the garage on different projects. When we go to Home Depot to get wood for a project, depending on the size, we have someone working in the lumber department cut it so it fits in my car. If a piece of wood is small enough to get in the car, then my son will cut it at home on his big miter saw. We both love tools and he has quite a collection. He made a rolling tool cabinet to put them in; however, not all of them fit in it. 😉 Blessings! 🙏🥰

Definitely invest in the compound sliding miter saw. I made the mistake of getting a smaller one too. It’s amazing but the sliding saw would be perfect.

Great storage addition, you can never have too much. As for power tools, they are like anything else new, they have a learning curve, as ya say research is key. I am still learning everyday with my scroll saw. I use a bulldog clip to hold my cutting mats and hang them on a hook, keeps them out of the way and flat too. Have a great weekend xox

A good sort out is satisfying, I love your craft room. Your shelves turned out great. I have a tool bag and craft storage being delivered on Saturday, can’t wait to get organised. I replaced part’s on my kitchen sink and fixed my pop up plug in my bathroom sink yesterday and was fed up of my tools being in different places. Hence the large tool bag. I'm in the middle of redoing my sewing room counters in an effort to make better use of my space and create a more unified appearance--instead of the hodge podge of tables I've been using. But today I ran out of energy and haven't gotten back to it. (Plus all that getting up and down has made my legs sore!!) Your video gave me the little push I needed. 😂 I invested in a miter saw years ago when I decided to redo all the baseboards in my house. Best purchase I ever made. It's so useful even for straight cuts, though, like you I regret not getting the kind that extends for a longer cutting range. With that and a circular, drill, and driver I'm good for most projects. Your videos always motivate me! 👍

You are so cute!! May I suggest for those ladies that are nervous of using a power tool - start with a power screwdriver only - not expensive, this will help you feel the power and adjust to the power in these power tools. I have a very big collection of tools but was lucky because I started with my Dad. I'm female and I think the only thing I've not made is a house. Honestly anyone can use these tools but start small and build confidence, you'll soon be buying your own tools but please do your research first.

Really good advice. And I'm so glad to hear that DIY stores will cut wood to the length you need; I don't think that I have the hand strength for sawing wood. Thanks. I don't have much room, so I prefer equipment (and furniture) that serves at least two purposes. I bought a 3-in-1 B&D power tool about 20 or so years ago, from Netto's (anyone remember that store?) It had been reduced right down to £12 and I thought that it would be good to have my own drill, driver and sander so that I could be more independent. But I was never confident enough to use it! Well, it still works and I have used it a little bit now. I'm planning on using it to sand the furniture I want to restore and paint, so I'm hoping that I can still get the sanding sheets to fit! Or, perhaps I can cut my own :)
