Got this working... what an awesome addon! Thanks for showing us how to us it. I messed up at first and tried to add it to the MIDI piano roll toolbar instead of the MIDI piano roll context, but once I discovered my error, it was smooth sailing from there. Thanks again, Kenny!
I've been using the 'Snap to key' and 'Transpose Notes' from the JS MIDI fx combined, to set up 3 tracks which harmonise to a single midi melody line. I can then record the output to a further track and edit that midi content, which is by then chords in a single midi track. Doing this way you can edit and vary the original melody line, and the rhythm, and the harmonisations produce automatically via the fx setup. The combined track needs re-recording if detailed edits to the chord output is needed.
I just figured it out I had to drag and drop chords-scales-Arps.reaperkeyMap folder into the keymap folder. Now everything works perfectly thought I let you know. This is awesome
Great tip! I'm using it already to insert chords and split them over the measures to create quick melody lines for vocals over existing backing tracks. Well done again Kenny...you are the man!

Kenny, you're on a tear recently with REAPER and Chords. I almost blew this off when I saw "using Menus" in the title. I didn't know you meant context sensitive right-click menus! (I will add Edit:Invert voicing downwards/upwards for each selected chord" to the menu).
Does Cockos pay you, because they SHOULD! This was an amazing tutorial and I got it to work! REAPER is such an amazingly adaptable program, and you explain it beautifully. Thank you so much Kenny, I couldn't work Reaper without you! (And yes, I did actually read the manual!)

Pretty cool. I'd def use this. One thing that would make it even better for me while writing electronic music would be to be able to draw interesting rhythmic sequences within the chords, like a synth arpeggiator. I remember being able to do that in Sonar and it's something I kind of miss. Bonus points for the Walken at the end!
Thanks again for everything Kenny - this is one thing that I think I will find so useful as I deal with MIDI items quite a lot, and am always looking for shortcut ways to do things like this. Keep up the good work !

Anything I want. I find it here. I imagined this tool. And it is here demonstrated. Thank you so much! So the tool creates a chord based on the note where cursor is at as the lowest note. Can we do the reverse? Say we want F as the 4th or 6th of a chord in the key? Or more clearly, is there a dictionary of chord names of all variations where we choose that chord and drag and drop?
Very cool! Not a muso, but a laserist developing a laser synth with a Teemsy MCU, an Akai MIDI Mixer, customized Reaper. It's basically 4 'stereo' oscilltors, with one side phase shifted by 90 degrees, aka 'quadrature oscillators.' + 2 * RGB modulators + 2 * AM modulators and some envelops... typical synth waveform stuff, but pushing X/Y galvos, instead of L/R speakers. Been transposing MIDI Notes to an array of floating point frequencies 0-~1.5kHz. But, without transposing, your chords would automatically produce harmonic Lissajous imagery, as well. This should be very interesting to play with, in order to discover which 'cycloid' images are produced by different harmonic musical chords. Thanks for sharing! 😎

Doesn't work. The chord or arpeggio notes do not show up when I choose insert. Anybody else faced the same problem? I've followed every step in the video :(
There appears to be a misprint in the scales section of the download file. At 2:16 of the video, there is a scale named "Scribian" [sic]. It should certainly read "Scriabin," named after the late 19th century, Russian Impressionist composer. The scale, I assume, is crafted as a derivation from Alexander Scriabin's "Prometheus," or "Mystic Chord." There is no recognized scale by that name, much like a few others in the list, but commonly used in contemporary "scale vernacular." "Dyads" is also misspelled later. - I'm sure none of these affect the program in a negative way.
Hm - somehow it does not work for me. On importing the chords_scales_arps.ReaperMenu file, i get this error message: Error importing ReaperMenu ReaperMenu file does not have menu for "MIDI piano roll toolbar" any ideas? Yes, i am aware there are two files and i took the right one!
Watched this video several times to get it working but still no luck. It seems the keymap is either Germankeymap or DKkeymap I'm guessing this is the problem as when I try to do anything from the menu nothing happens. Perhaps it's the recent update to Reaper.

The issue at hand is a Cockos representative injecting devisive polyticks and anger into a public facing business venture. What side he's on is meaningless. Whose shirt he wears is meaningless. It's a bad decision. When you are feeling anger and hatred, sleep on it.
I have my reaper license when I go to actions key map I don't get the chords-scales-Arps.reaperkeyMap instead I get DK and German KeyMap so when I go try to create scales or chords nothing happens I use a mac mini 2020 Ventura 13
