We finally got around to adding a T-Track and new wasteboard to the Onefinity CNC! Our X-Carve had a threaded insert wasteboard and we wanted to change it up and try out the t-track system and so far we're loving it! We just need a few more accessories... Here's a quick break down on how we added the T-Track and a fresh wasteboard with a super fancy grid pattern to our CNC! Make sure to let us know what you think down below, along with any future video suggestions!

I love your honesty. My journey has also been a "learn as I go" in a lot of ways. My grandfather taught me a lot of the old ways but then I got a career. Trying to remember the lessons of old and incorporate the new as well. I look forward to the journey and I thank you for sharing with us. As i get better ill start sharing myself. Ken

what t-track clamps have you ended up using, if any? I just built mine the same way and I'm now realizing that the Rockler t-track inline clamps will not work because the track is lower than the spoil board. Just wondering if you are using any or just sticking with the glue/tape method? seems that the t-tracks could be irrelevant if you are and the spoil board could be one big board with the grid. Also, do you have a file for the grid that you can share? save some vcarve design time. ;-) thanks. can't wait to dive into things with my 1F

I am a little concerned about the Y-axis running on rails that aren't supported. Have you had a chance to check for flex? Also, I am little surprised they don't have stop and zero switches. Maybe these will make it into the production machines. I think this is a fine looking machine but at this point is a huge gamble. Loved the box BTW.

@EastLondonKiwi
@EastLondonKiwi 4 года назад
Hi nice machine and I look forward to seeing how you get on with it. Re squaring up stock, have you thought of Bench-dogs, or pins? have a look at this guy Peter Parffit who has done a load of research into the subject and made a tool to install them on normal work spaces (which I don't think you'll need for this approach to work on your cnc), ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SAKhSPBozms.html importantly for you, he goes into the maths and why their placement works. If you purchased some procession ground drill rod, you could cut that down to make some pins. then have you CNC bore exact holes in your spoil board at key points that enable you to quickly square stock at known points by inserting the pins at stock placement time. You might even have them so your stock hits exact Y and X placements, negating the need to zero the X and Y, then once the stock is held down, remove the pins for cutting? If you saved this dog placement and sizing in your grind cutting and spoil board surfacing Gcode, you'd have a repeated-able pin placement every time you changed your boards. Hope that helps. take care D

Great video. But that flag has way too many stripes, sir... 😂
@DormantIdeasNIQ
@DormantIdeasNIQ 3 года назад
I may be missing something here... but consider this: First, the channel waste board approach seems much better than this screw-on type. Way too many screws to deal with, and more planning to line up the stock each time. The channel type, is much quicker, less cumbersome. Surely there may be pros and cons for either... chyme in, we all need to learn. Second, it also looks to be bad planning. ...and I am not picking on anyone nor you specifically. ALL the people who mean to show others how to do a waste board are omitting clues. First the CNC is installed on a table/flat surface, then the waste board becomes an after the fact proposition. The Z depth is then partially eaten by the add-on waste board. Should not the waste board top rather line up with the maximum depth of the Z axis? Therefore now, you must add thickness(strips) under the feet of the machine to raise it to par? ...again, chyme in...
